I also had the kind of B-Dash rides Chuck was referring to on my first trip there...the return trip showed the coaster as MUCH better than my initial impression.
Phoenix? Well, I've been to KG about 5-6 times since my first visit, and *every single trip*, I leave the park and Phoenix just stays right there in my top ten. Even year in and year out. See? That's why Phoenix is different, it doesn't seem to HAVE "good days and bad days". Wooden coasters by their very nature are usually *tempermental*, right? Not this one.
Psssst! It's the level of care the ride receives... ;)
I think one of the best things about the Phoenix is how it consistently gets more intense towards the end but it never reaches a level of intensity that makes it challenging instead of fun. Each turnaround seems a little faster than the one before it. The first run of two speed hills is good, the double-up double-down on the second run is great and the final run of five speed hills is just insane.
And just for the record, I DO agree with Chuck that the Geauga Lake Big Dipper Is HIGHLY underrated.

I'll give you those dibs on Phoenix gradually getting better till its almost great. However Getting there can be kinda boring.
Theres so many coasters now that GO from the first drop to the finish that I can't give the first third of Phonix any notable points other than the pre lift tunnel (Should be manditory), Heck even several older than Phoenix Coasters give a better start to finish performance.
Im not knocking the coaster, I like it, More than Boulderdash :)

Phoenix isnt that good. Sure it has airtime but so do alot of other coasters as have been mentioned here in this thread. The Phoenix is a mediocre woodie with a crap, uninteresting layout that gets more attention that it should because of airtime.
The Tbolt is overated ,this is coming from someone who worked on it for two years.
The only way it isnt overated is,with the trims turned off(including the trim after the lift hill. :)
Ill take the Phoenix anyday over it. *** Edited 6/30/2006 8:21:03 PM UTC by Ex_Westview and KW_worker***
I mean no matter what the coaster is you're going to find someone who either loves it or hates. Ok, well, maybe not PGA's Grizzly. Poor thing.
(Finishing dead last is too good for it. It needs a negative rating)
Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."
I think I may have become bored of it,having been on it so much when I worked there.
I would like to thank the manager of the Tbolt,I was there yesterday and didnt have a partner, she went for a spin with me on it.
She should be a manager,VERY nice person!
I like ALL coasters, just I prefer airtime over laterals.
Getting back to the Phoenix..
I was at Knoebels the first year it was there, didnt care for it,was really slow,no air.The last two years I've been there, you are out of your seat more than you are in it.That ride keeps getting better with age. *** Edited 7/1/2006 12:21:37 AM UTC by Ex_Westview and KW_worker***
