Phoenix at Knoebels, amazing.

I recently visited Knoebels before the flood and went on the Phoenix. I have never been on a wooden coaster with more airtime! In terms of air, it even beat El toro in my opinion. Are there any more wooden coasters that you found had a high air time level?

Look at Mitch's poll for air whores:

http://www.ushsho.com/rideforceswoodpoll2005.htm

For those who like abrupt air:

Balder, Tremors, Phoenix, Thunderhead (? - I didn't think it had much air), Avalanche, Aska, Raven, Boulder Dash, Shivering Timbers, colossos, Hades, Rampage, Legend...

For those who liked float:

Boulder Dash, Balder, Thunderhead (? - again), ST, Phoenix, Aska, Hades, OzCat, Tremors, Colossos, Rampage, Raven, Cornball, Megafobia, Avalance, Timber Terror, Comet GE, Legend, Ghostride, LR.

And just for the record Phoenix is my favorite, as well. *** Edited 6/29/2006 5:32:55 PM UTC by ApolloAndy***

Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

Congrats on discovering the joy of the Phoenix! And no, I'm not being sarcastic, that's a sincere comment.

Phoenix, to me, is the most *dependable* airtime coaster I've ridden. Morning or night, rain or shine, cold or hot, the crazy thing ALWAYS seems to deliver... :)
Yeah, it's like the thing never needs to warm up. It hits the ground running every day!

You know those people that get out of bed at 5:30 in the morning- even on the weekend- and act as though they already digested a gallon of coffee? That's Phoenix.

I resemble that remark (but only on weekends. Who would sleep in on a *weekend* when there are so many things to do that aren't work?!?!).
Slightly overrated but PHUN no less!

Chuck, who enjoys Phoenix but finds many other woodies to be more complete.

definately agree chuck

For just pure, 100% fun factor, I can't think of much better than Phoenix. I don't think there's any way to describe, replicate it, or even wrap your head around it. There's just something about it that makes it so much greater than the sum of its parts.
There are several well rounded fun wooden coasters as have been pointed out here. heck, Sky Princess can be a hoot. Cornball, Big Dipper Geauga even blue streak and SCCB Giant Dipper.

Nothing wrong with em, Phun and a blast but why don't any of those rank top ten??

Theres several overrated coasters for one reason or another, Phoenix IMHO just happens to be up there because it's on nobodys bad list and it shouldn't be.

Chuck, who also considers Boulderdash way overrated but sees where many might think it's da bomb and I believe it's capable of giving better rides than what I got on it. Still it's return trip is no more thrilling than magnum or a hundred other coasters out there.

But El Toro.. and some others have a lot of "uplift forces." For me, it's a new thing in coaster riding. How much is TRUE airtime when you don't leave your seat?

Voyage, Avalanche, Blue Streak (cp), Hades, (Great Escape Comet!) and anything else with the newer ratchet bars have great 'psudo' air time.

But nothing beat a ride on the Coney Island Cyclone, Cyclops, Cornball, GL Big Dipper... (and Phoenix) Even though they aren't the speed demons that the new rides are, it's just more fun, ride after ride... For me anyway :) *** Edited 6/29/2006 8:49:40 PM UTC by J7G3***

If you like air, than try out shivering timbers at michigans adventure.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
