Phantom's Revenge... a dud?

Ever since PR opened, there has been too many topics wondering if this ride is bad. I will be riding it next week, so I will say try to go out and ride it instead of starting another topic wondering if PR is terrible or whatever. I think the fact that PR is the highest rated 2001 coaster on the AT list says something over Titan, Nitro, Talon and the clones of this year.

Taipan, SP was wicked, but in a bad way. I went into it thinking to expect hadnbanging and it wasn't as bad as the first time I rode it. My very last ride on the old SP was great though.

I've been on 4 of hyper coasters...Magnum XL-200, MF, Steel Force, and Phantom's Revenge. MF is definately the best, followed by PR in a close second. Everytime I've rode PR, I've gotten monster airtime (I usually ride in the last seat) more than anything Magnum, MF, and Steel Force have to offer. I don't get it...people are complaining about the seat belts...they have not once for me kept me in my seat and it feels like they're not even there, they're just right and I feel they're very loose, so I don't get where people are saying u can't keep they loose. All those people who think they're tight...just unbuckle them going up the lift hill and maybe you'll get your wish and fly out of the train...I agree the ride is too short for a hyper coaster..but what's Kennywood to do about their land space? They did all that they really could with it and I feel the did the best job possible. The airtime is better than any of those 4 coasters mentioned above...and don't judge a ride before u ride it...I thought PR was gonna suck when I saw the designs but I was pleasantly surprised. Everybody's got their own opinions and people who live by a certain park usually sway their opinions toward their best home-park coaster...probably even including me. Everybody wants to feel they have the best coaster in the world at their home-park

The question people should be asking themselves...is Phantom's Revenge better than the original Steel Phantom? I think 99.9% of the general public would agree that it's better than SP, so Kennywood has achieved their goal in making a better coaster.

CPGenius...try a C-47. If you don't know what that is, well, then, I'm sorry. Maybe Jeff can help. :)

Not that it makes a whole lot of difference. When I was riding I found myself thinking, "Seat belt? What seat belt?" as I was catapulted into the lap bar.

Jeff has been on Superman: Ride Of Steel. (SFA's I know of, possibly Darien Lake's as well.)

I think S:ROS (I've only been on SFA's) and Phantom's Revenge are right on par with each other in the intensity department. The thing is, though, that department is the "Strongest, most intense airtime I've ever felt department."

I rode Steel Phantom back in like 1995 and all I remember is the straight away right after the drop. I then knew how a pinball feels al day. IT HURT! Now, hopefully when I go back in a year or two, PR will be smooth as I hear it is today.

A dud? A dud? How in the world can you say that this ride is anything less then amazing? I have been on 56 roller coasters, and I can say without a doubt this is the best ride I have ever been on. The only coaster that even comes close to Phantom's Revenge is Magnum X-L 200.
Taipan- Yes SP did look good but if you want to know what it was like to ride, then just punch yourself in the side of the head until your vision blurs. Please ride PR before you call it a dud
Just Coasting- We aren't talking about Steel Phantom, we are talking about Phantom's Revenge. Which I'd say you haven't been on, because if you had been on it I'd say even YOU would say something positive about it.
B&Mfan- Lacked intensity!?! This is ride is beaten in intensity only by The Hulk an Millennium Force (which proves just because it's intense doesn't make it fantastic).
PR is a fantastic coaster! Put me in the category of PR lover. The coaster is short, but I solved that problem by jumping back in line.

i loved this coaster from the seats i have ridden in MF i felt Phantom's Revenge is better than MF.
it does kinda lack intensity but there are still very intense spots such as the pull out on the 232 foot drop, the double-dip and the turn is pretty intense but not that intense. But overall i think Kennywood made a good move in changing the coaster.

PR is definitely better than Steel Phantom, but I wasn't real impressed with Phantom's Revenge. It was an ok coaster, it didn't overly excite me!
Actually I found out if you pull the belt out all the way and hold it there, it locks and gives some decent room. The only thing for me is the bar was hitting my outside leg immediately. The ops really did not care how far the belt and bar where left up either, but no matter how hard I tried it would slam into my thighs going down the first hill. It doesn't hurt though, those trains are so comfy I can fall asleep in them :)

Uh oh... hot button. Look out!

That's a lot like complaining that they push the shoulder straps in too tight on X-Flight. During the course of the ride you get tossed in a way that few coasters can toss you.

Pete (where has Pete been, anyway?) brought up one of the best points about seat belts I've ever heard. It was his opinion, and one that I've adopted, that a seat belt does more to "give" while at the same time comfortably restraining you, than anything else. In fact, wasn't it Dave that said a PTC engineer told him the belts were the primary restraint?

Again, I chalk the seat belt thing up to coaster snobbery. If that makes me unpopular, so be it. I'm stickin' to it!

Up until a few weeks ago I thought seat belts on coasters like Magnum and PR where useless. On Magnum I normally loosen my belt as far as they would go. But after riding PR I realized that I wasn’t smashing into the lapbar like I do on Magnum. So on my next ride in the Magnum ejector seat I tighten my belt and got a much more comfortable ride.

I really was not impressed with the coaster at all. Sure, it gave some ok times of airtime. I don't know if this happened to anyone else, but since I wasn't expecting it, that double dip really hurt my neck.

Their best coaster, IMO, is Thunderbolt. Now THAT'S some good airtime and fun.

I would prefer a snug seatbelt over a loose one any day. Although I don't remember which coaster it was, I do remember that my belt was loose on one ride. The buckle was somewhere between my legs, rather than around my waist. When I hit some good airtime, the buckle hit between me and the lap bar.

Let's just say that I saw stars and my voice was several octaves higher for a while after that. So some day, my children may thank me for making sure my seatbelt is snug. ;)
