Pennsylvanians break 24-hour coaster record

Posted | Contributed by ToddConstantine

Inspired by last year's record of riding 40 coasters in 24 hours, a team of four PA men destroyed that record by riding 75 coasters in the same amount of time. The riders used helicopters and other vehicles to get around, all in the name of raising money for the Children's Miracle Network.

The GRP group were a bunch of arrogant whiners. They couldn't understand why they were being booed. The people in line paid full admission, waited patiently in line, and now they have to wait longer for this "special group". I watched it on television and felt like throwing a brick at the GRP's myself. At least the Pennsylvania riders did it all for charity.

cheat (cheet) v. 1. To deprive by trickery or deceit. 2. To practice trickery or fraud. 3. To break rules.

Now, which part of that is cheating? Oh, that's right. None of it.

If you had the chance to do it you'd be first on the chopper. What the hell difference does it make anyway? As someone stated above, I give them a lot of credit because they did it for a worthy cause.

I think this was a lot bigger deal then team GRP's trip. They wanted to do it for fame, but these guys did it for a good cause. I think that it's great that they raised money for a charity.

Again-how do you do get 75--SOMEBODY TELL ME

How is helicopters cheating
And Im sure those people didnt go over the speed limit--yeah right, sure
Next time why don't they use the Concord and see how many coasters the can ride in the US and oversea's in 24 hours.

I know it's for charity but that's not my gripe.

It's like Roger Maris and the asterisk by his season stats for home runs.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

who cares if they broke the record. they were raising money for charity and that's all that matters in my book.

Vortex rules!!!! (still)
In my park experience the bigger stars seemed to always have escorts through the park to allow them exit permissions. But GRP well, I really don't care and I wouldn't care if they were interferring with my wait in line. It's no different than those that cheat the exit admission policy that aren't hurt and get free rides. The whole system is a joke in my opinion.

SFOT brings up a good point:

If Antonio Bandaras can wait in line at MM, so could the GRP team.

If a helicopter is "cheating" then special preferrential treatment (like not waiting in line) should be considered "cheating" too.

If you're going to such a purist about it, the record shouldn't count unless you drive, go only during operating hours and stand in line like a regular guest...otherwise it's anything goes. GRP used "anything goes" tactics with special line access and the PA guys used a helicopter.

Why is one form of special treatment ok, but the other isn't, coasterkid15?

SFOT:
I recently drove cross country and mapquest said it would take over 30 hours, and it took less than 25, and we did not speed at all. I like that the fact they set a world record, and it was for a charity, but it isn't in the same class as GRP. GRP drove, the others didn't, they both set the world records in my book. you and the people at SFMW are just irratated ***holes, why scream profanity at them, when you only have to wait 1 minute longer. Plus the fact the people where booing them because they thought that they wouldn't be able to ride the rides since it was so late. But they are idiots who don't realize that that if you are in line, when the ride is supposed to close, means that you will be able to ride it. It is an amusement park rule. They are just idiots.
Also note that if you read the article, Escalante himself was present at the start and end. If he had no problem with this attempt, then neither should anyone else. There's even mention of him teaming up WITH them to go for 100. And I can guarantee you they won't be doing THAT driving around...

I wanna know if they received help from the parks, in that they were allowed to go to every exit of the Coasters and ride them that way, Infact, they must have done it, because it would have been impossible to ride them all normally through the proper lines, especially in 5 parks or however many parks they visited.
Well, if it was for Charity, I guess thats different, but going through the exits still shouldnt be allowed really IMO
It's for charity! Who cares if they did it by car, truck, rail, helicopter, ship, horseback, or on rollerskates? Honestly. When some poor kid suffering from an awful, debilitating disease gets to meet NSync or Shaq or someone just because these people took their time and energy to raise the money, that's what it's all about.

And I hope you guys realize... they rode more coasters in a 24-hour period than most CoasterBuzz members, including myself, have ridden their entire life. That's an accomplishment.

I am truely shocked to hear the cr*p you folks are spewing. I know about 80% of the people from GRP and got to ride Goliath with them at the end. GRP did not break the record becasue of there EGO! I see a lot of whining on this site and none of it makes any sence. Also, if you are going to bash David Escalante, I hope you know him and you know what you are talking about. I know the man personaly, and he is a great human being. He has gone out of his way MANY times to help me with A.C.E projects and has done wonders with the Northern California ACE chapter. I have personaly talked to David about the attempt and he encourages others to break the record. If you are going to open your mouth and put your foot in, please think about what your are saying before you make a fool out of yourself. Also there are no rules on breaking the record except breaking the law.

Think before you post!
