Pattern of CF coasters--Will MA follow the leader?

Jeff,

I didn't miss the point, and agree with your post actually, I was just posting what the press article said.  Just so that we could keep the facts straight that they (original owners) just didin't want to build a "steel" coaster but a very tall "steel" coaster. :-D

Yeah,it'll more likely follow in World of Fun and Valleyfair's foot steps.
Can anyone give some comparative prices on boomerangs, impulses, and hypers?

I know that the impulses are around 9 million, but needs a huge supply of electricity. But can someone help me out with the other 2?

Coaster costs vary -- even for 'standard issue' clones -- because the costs of construction vary.

One example is Jazzland's SLC, which will cost $8 million instead of the usual $6 million.  The actual coaster costs $4 million, but it will cost Jazzland an extra couple million to build it because of the swampy land conditions.

Of course, a park may also have to relocate/rebuild other facilities, which would increase the cost a bit too.

Boomerang:  Between $2-3 million

Morgan hyper:  close to $10 million

Boomerangs are in the way of about 5 million installed. That is without themeing, or relocations of anything else. SLC's are no less than 9 million. Jazzland had a deposit on the ride 2 years ago, they have not taken delivery. If they do. Hypers are all priced on length of track.

If you are using union labor, costs could go up another 15-20%. It is based on the what the trades can supply. Smaller parks like MAdv don't have huge in-house staff for such a project. So they need to add temp staff for construction.

And BTW, Cedar Point's attendance is more than KBF. KBF has more season pass/repeat visitors. CP has more day trippers. If you divide attendance by operating days, CP wins hands down.

As Jeff, 15 million is a lot of money for a small park. I can't even see how it would have been justified with the past owners. They would benefit much better from other family rides, like the shoot the chutes and towers, etc.

Take KBF's Boom send it to MA.Replace Boom w/ a ArrowBATic.Create a Arrow hyper @ MA similar to Gemini to save $$$$$.
Problem solved. Doesn't take a rocket scientist.

$5 mill for Boomerang isn't a value.
Sounds over priced for what you are getting.

I think if anything that MA will get a hyper or some sort of coaster that is taller then 200ft. It's the only CF park that doesn't have a hyper. What would be really cool is if they got a giga even though i live far from MA and wouldn't get to ride it.

Millennium Force......It has its ups and downs.
i think that ma will be getting a intamin spiraling impulse similar if not the exact same as wicked twister. This seems to be the way to go because it doesn't take up a lot of room, and it does not cost quite as much as most of the major coasters that cedar fair gets for their parks. I have never been to the park, don't know the landscape, but that kind of ride could fit in small spaces and could probably fit in almost any park. Plus it could maybe be advertised as both a free fall ride and a hypercoaster all in one. This could work because all other cedar fair parks have a free fall ride and a hypercoaster of some sort ( or will soon). I think that if they want to spend not as much but still bring more people into their park, this would definately be a positive move
I hope MA doesn't go the cheap way and get an Impulse. I am not impressed with them. Give me any other type of coaster. Anything is more thrilling than an Impulse. I think if MA is smart (they are a CF park so they have some intellgence) they will opt for a hypercoaster, maybe even an inverted coaster. But that's my opinion I could be wrong.
As a local, I feel it necessary to put my $.32 in the pot here.  Numbers will go up this year in attendance.  Being the first "full year" as a CF park, more and more people know about us now.  Sure many enthusiasts knew about us because of ST, but now there is a much larger marketing budget associated with CF.  The people will come....oh yes, they will come, and they will hand over their money without even thinking....oh wait, went off on a "Field of Dreams" tangent there.  I apologize.  CF should get a good general idea as to what they can expect from MIA in the future based on what numbers they get with the improvements they have already set for the coming season.  I've been out there the last few weeks looking things over and there is definate happenings occuring.  The one major problem I see with the numbers though is this....we have many "one-day" trippers coming to the park and very few "multi-day" trippers.  For this we can chalk it up to the lack of hotel/motels on site...let's face it, there is no "lack", there just plain aren't ANY.  This I feel will be addressed in the coming years or even year.  When the lights go on for night hours starting next year(2003 season), you will most undoubtedly see a hotel of some sort or even a camping location on site.  I would venture a guess and say before a hyper goes in, you will see a resort of some sort.

Here's another thought as well.  Folks talk about the other CF parks and how they wish they could have this or that but they are limited by space.  Just a thought, but if the CF brass see it feasible, they may have MIA in mind just for something along these lines.  With the amount of land available at MIA, and with budgetary concerns always a possibility on the horizon, could MIA not be a place for CF to save a little money here and there and move rides from other parks to make room for something new at the other locations?  Yes it would cost money to dismantle and ship the rides, but it would cost just as much if not more for r&d and construction of totally new rides.  Just a thought, not saying it's going to happen, but who knows...it occurs already with other parks...heck, we're getting Dodge'm I from CP this year.

Anyways, I lost track there a little bit.  The initial question was about the proposed coaster that was to come into MIA before the acquisition.  Jeff hit it on the nose.  All bets are off...CF doesn't have to do anything about that "proposed" coaster.  Though I do believe it will most likely happen, CF first needed to do some feasibility studies and some preliminary research into what kind and when a new coaster "could" be a possibility.  Those guys just aren't going to just jump right in and go like gang busters and build something that they can't pay for with-in 2 years.  We've all played RCT, we know how it works.  They're doing the same thing, but when they play, they play with real greenbacks.  CF should have a pretty good idea at the end of this season and we'll hopefully find out something "big" in the next off season.

Here's to good coastering folks...have a safe New Year.

Giddy-up

You know, a boomerang probably won't impress the enthusiasts, but the general public seems to adore these rides.

I can't explain it, but when they see it sliding backwards, it is apparently impressive.

If I was running Michigan's Adventure, I would strongly consider putting in some type of S&S tower.  That would be a nice start for them.  then next year, they can assess attendance and decide what coaster would be appropriate.
