I didn't miss the point, and agree with your post actually, I was just posting what the press article said. Just so that we could keep the facts straight that they (original owners) just didin't want to build a "steel" coaster but a very tall "steel" coaster. :-D

One example is Jazzland's SLC, which will cost $8 million instead of the usual $6 million. The actual coaster costs $4 million, but it will cost Jazzland an extra couple million to build it because of the swampy land conditions.
Of course, a park may also have to relocate/rebuild other facilities, which would increase the cost a bit too.
Boomerang: Between $2-3 million
Morgan hyper: close to $10 million

If you are using union labor, costs could go up another 15-20%. It is based on the what the trades can supply. Smaller parks like MAdv don't have huge in-house staff for such a project. So they need to add temp staff for construction.
And BTW, Cedar Point's attendance is more than KBF. KBF has more season pass/repeat visitors. CP has more day trippers. If you divide attendance by operating days, CP wins hands down.
As Jeff, 15 million is a lot of money for a small park. I can't even see how it would have been justified with the past owners. They would benefit much better from other family rides, like the shoot the chutes and towers, etc.

Here's another thought as well. Folks talk about the other CF parks and how they wish they could have this or that but they are limited by space. Just a thought, but if the CF brass see it feasible, they may have MIA in mind just for something along these lines. With the amount of land available at MIA, and with budgetary concerns always a possibility on the horizon, could MIA not be a place for CF to save a little money here and there and move rides from other parks to make room for something new at the other locations? Yes it would cost money to dismantle and ship the rides, but it would cost just as much if not more for r&d and construction of totally new rides. Just a thought, not saying it's going to happen, but who knows...it occurs already with other parks...heck, we're getting Dodge'm I from CP this year.
Anyways, I lost track there a little bit. The initial question was about the proposed coaster that was to come into MIA before the acquisition. Jeff hit it on the nose. All bets are off...CF doesn't have to do anything about that "proposed" coaster. Though I do believe it will most likely happen, CF first needed to do some feasibility studies and some preliminary research into what kind and when a new coaster "could" be a possibility. Those guys just aren't going to just jump right in and go like gang busters and build something that they can't pay for with-in 2 years. We've all played RCT, we know how it works. They're doing the same thing, but when they play, they play with real greenbacks. CF should have a pretty good idea at the end of this season and we'll hopefully find out something "big" in the next off season.
Here's to good coastering folks...have a safe New Year.

Giddy-up
I can't explain it, but when they see it sliding backwards, it is apparently impressive.
If I was running Michigan's Adventure, I would strongly consider putting in some type of S&S tower. That would be a nice start for them. then next year, they can assess attendance and decide what coaster would be appropriate.
