Parks near airports

Some of you guys either drive 100 plus or don't remember how long the trip really took. It's 41 miles from the Cinci airport to Kings Island. That's an 82 mph average to make it in 30 minutes. You might make it from SFGAm to O'Hare in 30 minutes at 3 AM, but not at any time that the park is open.

Most major parks are close enough to an airport to make it easy to rent a car and visit. Even Holiday World is only about 1.5 hours from Louisville. Cabs are so darned expensive that they don't make sense except for maybe SFKK. A few airport and park combinations are on public transportation so that you could make the trip that way. SFA can be visited by public transportation from National or BWI.

If you want to go to Knobels or Indiana Beach, you have a problem. The only air transportation around them has feathers.

PGA would be a cab drive away.

From Boomers, you can see planes landing at Fort Lauderdale International.

I dunno, wouldn't Knoebels be within 90 minutes of Harrisburg's airport?

Off topic, but has anyone else ever played golf at Airport Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio? It's so close to the airport that the runway lights are *in the fairways.* And you can clearly see people's faces in the windows. It's a blast, and the golf course is not bad, either.

Here, this'll give you an idea:

A day is a drop of water in the ocean of eternity. A week is seven drops.

I don't know about SFFT or Sea World San Antonio, but it can't be far from the San Antonio Airport.
I think that SFFT is on the west side of town and the airport on the east side, but then San Antonio isn't that big of a city.
Orlando's parks aren't that far from the airport... I would guess no more than ten miles from the airport.

Coney Island can't be very far from LaGuardia and JFK airports. Neither can Rye Playland, for that matter, although I am sure that is further from the city than Coney.

How far are the coasters in Vegas from the airport? I am pretty sure that the airport is very close to the Strip.

Oh yeah, Vegas wins. You can clearly see the trains operating on both High Roller and Manhattan Express from the terminals in the airport. I would say the corner of the airport is no more than 1/4 mile from NYNY.

Then I think we have a winner (no pun intended).

It's about 15 miles to the edge of Walt Disney World -- farther to the theme parks. I think the Magic Kingdom is about 27 miles away.

JFK is closest. LaGuardia is pretty far away. Rye is closest to LaGuardia, but still really far away as it's practically in Connecticut.

Long Island's Adventureland is probably less than two miles from Republic Airport, but no major airlines fly there -- only charters and general aviation stuff.

MacArthur Airport wasn't too far from Adventureland....not that I can see that as being a major draw for either business...;)

Well, *I* can get from MacArthur airport to Adventureland in less than 20 minutes -- I'm not sure about mere mortals, though. People who're not used to driving on the Long Island Distressway, particularly, would want to set aside a bit more time than that as I understand most people are familiar with the concept of bumper to bumper traffic that moves at 70 mph :)

Wow! Thanks for all the great suggestions.

Unfortunately, America West or Mesa Air (America West Express) doesn't fly into all those places, but they do to most mentioned. I will Definitely be heading to Dallas Fort Worth soon, as I have a friend that just moved there. So, I already told her that I am gonna go see her and we can go to SFOT. Also, I have a cousin that lives just outside Tampa. So, you know I am gonna be hitting up some Bucsh Gardens action! I will also be hitting the Vegas coasters soon, as I try to go there as much as I possibly can.

Anyway, I also see Chicago, New York, D.C. in my near future. So, SFGA, Coney Island, and SFA will be musts.

Too many parks, too little time and money....... :)

Oh come on! You asked. And you have plenty of time right? Belmont Park in San Diego is a cab drive away.

Hey, just take it one at a time. You'll hit plenty. Besides, you'll probably find that of all the possibilities, you'll only find a handfull that you'll keep coming back to.

. . .and SFOG in Atlanta is near Three different Airports.

Yeah, but only Hartsfield is a commercial airport, and a cab ride from ATL to SFOG is going to be at least $30 or $40.

Hartsfield is kinda far from SFOG... at least a half hour drive once you get away from the airport.

That is one HUGE airport!

If you exit Hartsfield out Camp Creek Highway and keep following the road it ends up at I-20 one exit West of Six Flags Drive.

Alternatively you could take MARTA by rail out to the H.E.Holmes station (about a 40 min ride due to a transfer in downtown) and then cab over to the park. Less than $20 round trip (although getting the cab back from the park could be difficult without a phone).

I would suggest going to Richmond and hitting up Kings Dominion and BGW. They are both great parks.

Also, I suggest SFKK because i cannot imagine the staff of that park being rude. I go to UK in Lexington and the people down here are nice as can be. I wouldn't think that Louisville would be any different as it is only an hour west of here.

As Mitch always said, "If you had a freind who was a tightrope walker and he fell down just walking down the street, that would be completely unacceptable."

Aactually SFGAm is probably closer to Mitchell then to O'Hare. It is actually about half an hour at the most and you don't have to gamble with traffic. It is an extremely boring drive though.

I have a question, how far is SFMM from LAX?

I've driven to/from SFGAm from both MKE and ORD. neither drive is very hectic. Despite what people might think, Chicago traffic isnt *always* that bad (not something that can be said about the DC area). ORD is only about 30 miles away from SFGAm so a trip to/from the airport taking about a half an hour is just about right. But MKE is definitely closer. It only takes about 35-40 min to get to SFGAm from my sister's house in Milwaukee (she lives right along I-94) and it takes about ten-15 min to get to MKE from there. MKE really is the closer of the two, even if it is in the *wrong* state :).

BTW: Jim: while it would take going 82mph to do a 41 mile trip in thirty minutes, if you just drive 70 mph you can make that trip in about thirty-five minutes. In my estimation, that is about a half hour.
