page hit counter (and read 74 times)

I really like the clean format of this forum, it is one of my favorites. I can only think of two things I would like to see added.

1. How about some sort of indicator of how many times a post has been read. I am sure that posts are read many more time that they are replied to. I have seen this done before. If you need an example see the forums at (airliners.net). For instance, This very post might be read 74 times. Then someone replies to it and their reply could indicate (read 52 times). Then the next (read 21 times). And so on, and so on...

2. A search option for the forums. This might help folks find answers to questions which have already been discussed in another thread.

1. That's not a bad idea, but it adds one more processing cycle to each page. I'm not sure I want to take a performance hit in doing that. One of the things I pride myself on is that these forums are much faster than anything else out there, and the reason is I kept it simple.

2. No question there. I just need to get off my lazy you-know-what and do it. Then the moderators don't have to yell at people with "we just talked about this" comments!

I agree that putting in a search engine for the forums is a good idea. However, I don't think it'll get rid of the "we just talked about this" comments -- instead you'll get "we just talked about this, use the search engine to find it..." comments ;)
