Over-Rated Coasters

Well, gee, I guess I'd have to say Millennium Force... instead of rocketing to number one, like most people and polls would indicate, it only rocketed to number two. Oh, my. What an incredible disapointment.

As far as I'm concerned, no coaster is over-rated. Every rating you hear is 100% accurate... For the person who gives it. I personally can't imagine anyone not including Raptor in their top ten, but I'm not gonna say they have to. As for me, I just like coasters. I think the only one that's ever disapointed me was Mean Streak, and that was remedied the next day (thanks to a pretty much trim free ride. Booyah!).

I hear America screaming...

Millennium Force is way over-rated, IMO, because it have more rider-ships than SFNE's Superman and it's at Cedar Point.

Superman: Ultimate Flight at SFGAdv was overrated I think. It's a good ride don't get me wrong but it could have been longer, had more elements, oh and of course NOT A CLONE!

I've got to say Montu is way overrated. Of the seven or eight B&M inverted coasters I've ridden, it's the least fun one I've ridden. That's all due to the excessive braking. I like pretty forceful rides (DD Fire is my #1 inverted. The Gs are insane) and Montu didn't have that. Not to mention it crawled through some spots after the MCBR. The trim before the batwing took speed and fun away from the batwing and the MCBR is on worse than Goliath at SFMM. That's no good. I was also pretty hyped for it and after riding it and seeing that it wasn't that thrilling, everything fell apart. Good thing the park's got Kumba.

Volcano: The Blast Coaster. It has a great launch and going out of the mountain is incredible. But the rest is a BORE. There are just some turns and low-speed barrel rolls. BORING! Lets not forget the most anti-clamatic finish ever! 80 diving drop into the mountain! SWEET! But then it hits the breaks! AHAHAH!!!

vertical velocity it was fun the first time but any time after that is sucks

1. Dueling Dragons: Least enjoyable inverteds that I have ridden. The dueling aspect is lost on all but the front seat. If we were ranking queues, I would place it at number 1. However, we are talking coasters, and a great queue to me does not save a mediocre coaster. I just don't see what all of the fuss is about.

2. Steel Phantom: While I actually enjoyed this less than Dueling Dragons (way less!), I put it as number 2 because there doesn't seem to be that endless love affair with this old coaster as people have with Dragons... its more of a love / hate affair with no in between. First two drops were great... after that when it hit the inversions it was PAINFUL. I always attributed it to a case of trying to much in too small of an area at too great of speed.

3. Phantom's Revenge: While vastly improved over its formerself (at least now the first three drops are good), it is still a case of too fast in too small a space when it comes to the still painful ending. A good coaster, and a vast improvement over the old Steel Phantom, but yet nothing that I can see getting excited about like some people do.

4. (Honorable Mention) Drachen Fire: I will admit, this is a coaster that I never rode. I never even saw it in person (visited BGW April 2002 after it was removed). However, from all accounts that I have heard, it seems like it has been placed in the "Great Coaster" category simply because it stood idle all of those years. Had it continued to run, people would have been coplaining "Its too rough... tear it down and put up something good"... but because it stood there SBNO for all of those years, it turned into a legend.

Kind of hard to take a post as objective if a park or coaster name is part of the "user name"

I guess every coaster ever built is over-rated in some way.

IMHO Shivering Timbers, Nitro, Millennium Force, Beast, Hulk, and Dueling Dragons are all over-rated.

Millennium Force, Steel Force, Goliath, V2/S:UE are rides that get a lot of praise that I just found to be 'eh.'

But I love the Boss, so what do I know?

I found Millenium Force to be overrated. I have only got airtime once on that ride, back in it's opening season. After the first drop, it doesn't do much for me.

Impulses are overrated, they get really dull after a few rides.

Raven is only overrated because Legend is my #1, then Raven ;) :)

I think anything with X in the name, xspecially X and Xcelerator, is overrated. At best, they could be rated PG-13 for strong language. I don't get all the buzz about the those woodies in Indiana either.

Dawn - you would if you were buzzed before riding the woodies in Indiana. Oh, wait...that's already being discussed in the PBR thread ;)
