Over-Rated Coasters

Magnum was disappointing for me. It just didn't stand out. (Take note that it was my first visit to Cedar Point ever, and my first ride of the day/season happened to be Millennium Force)

I found The Beast to be way overrated. I never understood all the fuss over this coaster.

Life consists of two kinds of people, those who accept, and those who sit back and cry...
Millennium Force for the first drop is amazing but the rest of the ride is BORING!
My most over-rated coaster would definitely have to be Goliath. I was all stoked to ride this massive steel contraption. What a let down. I was not impressed at all. That's just my opinion. I would say that RR is SFMM's best coaster, right now.

I will probably catch some flak for this, but I found The Legend to be WAY overrated and over-hyped. As good as it was, I found it to be the kind of coaster that could not make up its mind on what it wanted to be. The Gerstaltler trains are not my pick for a CCI either.

Dustijn Hollin: Sheesh! Pretty harsh critique. What coasters do you like?

-------------
"X" marks the spot in 2001!
Same exact question I was gonna ask, Soggy

p.s. How is SteelForce overrated? It isn't even rated at all!

Superman: ROS overrated??? Where is he getting that at?

Parks for 2000: CP, Great Escape, Great Adventure, SFA, Islands of Adventure, Kennywood
I think MF would be overrated, purely because some people tout the ride as perfect, and, although it features what is most likley the best drop ever on a roller coaster, the overall ride left many feeling that the rise didn't live up to its potential. (I am one of those people... after that INCREDIBLE drop, the force never gets back over 200 ft) where as SD2000 has 3 such peaks, i feel it is underrated, purely because it is in Japan.

Dustijn Hollin I think you are what Jeff would call a coaster snob. LOL

See you in 2001 for twice the fun (hint, hint)
I have a better question. Put aside what people think are overrated. Who cares about coaster ratings.
What coaster do you like to ride just because it's fun and delivers a great ride all the way thru, not just because it's in the top 10 of some list?

My favorite is probably the Phoenix just because I think it's a great paced ride. Starting with a long tunnel to the lift and the high turnarounds that get faster as you go. then on the straight aways you get the 6 bunny hops (2 on the first straightaway, 4 on the return to the station),and the double up double down inbetween to break it up. I love the air on top of every single hill. I just think everything came together perfect when they designed it and the ride it delivers shows. At least to me anyway.

Who cares, as long as we got something to ride. I mean sure I have rode some coasters, that aren't that great, but still at least the park has them there for other people to enjoy and take them out of the lines of the coasters that you do like.

I see a lot of people on this board over exam coasters. You don't get on the coaster to ride it and have fun, but to see at what point you were thrown into the OTSR the hardest, and then you complain about it and say that the ride was the worst coaster in the world.

I say to all of you so called coaster enthusiasts out there, "This next summer ride the coasters as a fun and exciting ride, instead of acting like a movie critic and judging everything from the queue entrance to exit." To me that is what a coaster enthusiast is.

Craig the coaster Freak
How can you say get rid of all those straightaways on Raptor. I can only think of two, and they are to give you a break. Every coaster has them.

Well I'm done and I hope some of you consider what I said. I'm not pickin on you Craig, but it was just one thing that bugged me.
Overrated: floorless coasters

Most unoriginal: Steel Dragon 2000, just a Magnum 50% larger with a fancy turnaround.

(sounds like Korn over there has a vendetta against CP :), i say that because most people like Magnum or MF because the offer some of the best from two different coaster camps, speed vs airtime ) Also all this stuff on the Raptor is grating to my opinion. I find it a wonderfully paced invert that leaves most people dissoriented when exiting. But that's just my opinion.
Hold on there, Dustijn! Your track record indicated that you have not ridden the vast majority of the coasters you call over-rated. I can't say I've ridden them all, but the ones I have ridden (S:ROS, Mantis, and Thunderbolt) are all very good coasters that are fully deserving of the praise they receive. Ride coasters before you make such claims! *** This post was edited by themeparkne on 1/3/2001. ***
Magnum was overrated I enjoyed it (its my #5) but I really don't see how it could be ranked #1. But the most overrated:

RAPTOR. ugh ugh ugh. I only rode it once, and that was in the front seat. It was enjoyable, but that was about it. In the 2 days I was at Cedar Point, I rode it only once. I decided to ride Mean Streak twice instead of riding Raptor again :). Of course if you've seen me post you know my most Underrated is Top Gun: The Jetcoaster, at Paramount's Carowinds.
Thunderbolt-

I can't believe that a few paices of wood rotting in a valley could be enjoyed...

At least how much people seem to enjoy it that is!
I think the Mind Bender at SFOG was over rated and the Colossus at SFMM at it's present condition still being refered as one of the largest racers in the world even though it doesn't really race anymore is just a boring ride now.

Meangene said Steel Dragon 2000 was the most unnorignal ride. just a larger Magnum with a fancy turnaround. Magnum is not an orignal layout it is just a bigger version of a out and back wooden coaster.

#1: Millennium Force
#2: Raging Bull
#3: Tie B:TR/Raptor
#4: Viper (SFGAm)
#5: Goliath/Magnum
For all you people that dislike the B&M looper, The Incredible Hulk Coaster, we need to remember that there are only FOUR other B&M sitdown coasters that even exist. Wildfire was just okay, personally I like barrel rolls and that therefore didn't have much to offer, Kumba was okay, a little bumpy, although I have to give it to Kumba that the end was much more intense than Hulk's ending was. Also, I have been on Dragon Khan which now is really bumpy, and the whole eight inversion thing really did not impress me. So now it comes down to between Hulk and Kumba. Hulk's little turn around, around the launch tunnel was pretty intense, so was Kumba's up helix, although between the two, I thought Kumba's inversions were a little bit choppy. Both are comperable, but remember that when you say things, think about them before you just start making fun of something. And 2Hostyl Arrow loopers really suck, they are very dumb with tiny loops, and have no rhythm. They are also very bumpy! I'll go with B&M's thank you! Intamins work too. Also, the ride of Riddler was not that great. I do have to admit that the launch is not amazing on Hulk, but it is fun, but the rest of the ride on Riddler sucked! Thank you for your concern to this pressing issue.
