Opinions on SFMM reality show

EDIT - As one who is highly skilled in the fine art of profanity, I forgot to give props to Petie and Crystal for the string of profanities on X. Beautiful! :)

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I hated that show. I mean really, how does dropping balloons have to do with Thrill Rides? What I want them to do is try getting 100 people through a ride safetly in the fastest amount of time. That would be cool to watch.

I guess I'm strange, but I actually enjoyed TRPTTT. Oh Well.....

Congratulations RUBEN STUDDARD!!!!! You're "Flying Without Wings"!!

I didn't like the last challenge. It was supposed to be about if they could hold it down, NOT how fast they could eat it. lame

A coaster undurance test would have been much much better.

I guess I'm in the minority in thinking that the show was actually fairly good. My wife and I both thought the host was funny and enjoyable. The only thing that I thought was lame was the rather arbitrary scoring system, like Paris pointed out.

As for what the rest of you are saying about the information presented in the other shows... get a life. If you all think the target audience (or the producers of the shoe for that matter) gives a rat's *** about how accurate or non-accurate the information is, you are SADLY mistaken. These shows are made for one purpose and one purpose only, to get non-enthusiasts excited about rides/coasters enough to go to their local park.

SCREAM with me... in 2003!

I almost agree with you Soggy, but not quite. The one and only purpose of these shows isn't to get people to go to their local park, it is to get people to watch the Discovery Channel.

The parks allow their rides to be filmed/highlighted to generate publicity but the cable companies could care less if anyone goes to the park as long as the shows are watched.

In their speed to get the shows aired, and in their zeal to make them exciting, getting the facts isn't a priority.

it still gets to me that they showed us in last b4 X lol we were SO in 4th (by 5 points) LOL

It seems alot of people thought us swearing was a really funny part...thats all we did...OMG on X we said far worse and the whole ride was just swearing LOL...oh well

whats up with them doing so many SFMM shows......i really hate that.....Thrill Rides put to the test was not that bad but could have been better!

by the way this is my 1st post...go me!

I'm also apart of the minority that actually enjoyed the show. Infact, when it reran at Midnight, I watched until our own member Petie was eliminated, after X. Sorry, I'm a Reality TV Junkie!

I thought the host was funny and enjoyable. He was being sour and boring. Though, when I think of him in that blue jumper on the Euro Bungee thing, I want to burn every Euro Bungee and Blue jumper I come across to try to fade them memory of it. ;) I personally glad that he tried to do the stunts.

As for the stunts, I thought some were okay. The Euro Bungee was eh, and the Dive Devil was an obvious game, not much creativity. I enjoyed the Spin Cycle thing. Is that really in the park, or was it added for a game?

The X contest was creative, but easily winable. I could tell there was an easy way to get through, and after seeing the hot Arizona couple, it became clear. Pinch the top of the cup. Petie could've pinched where he was holdin (on the ball) and you wouldn't have been able to notice. Obviously, he didn't do that, but we did get a nice firework show of vivid vocabulary. Nice touch.

The Goliath event was sad. It was eat as fast as you can then ride. I know that I can eat alot and ride, so that wouldn't have been a problem.

I'll agree that I would've like to have seen endurance tests, such as on X or something. Also, I think everyone should have gotten to ride X each time, but one team does the cup stunt in that one seat, everyone else just rotates and rides. He made it sound like you actually had the park to yourself. Heck, I would've said "Screw you" and went to go ride everything.

I'm glad the Hot Arizonas won, because....they were hot and were girly girls and they beat all the guys.

The prize was they got to return to Arizona sad! No, not really. Everyone got season passes to Six Flags. Arizonas got to return to SFMM for the opening of Scream.

I wouldn't mind if they did the show again next year. Heck, maybe I'll even try out and infest the public viewing! MUHAHAHAHA! Only, they should've put Robb and Elissa in from Theme Park Review because I bet they would've been as funny as they are in their videos.

RCT, I agree on Robb and Elyssa. They would have been great on the show.

I too enjoyed the show. It had its flaws (noted earlier) but this was what it was -- basically your Nickelodeon Slime Time Live (or just about any of the Nick game shows of the past) set in a high-octane amusement park. It was certainly different.

Folks who were expecting something else aren't being realistic. Marathon riding? It would have been a boring one-trick show. Some extreme stunts? You would risk injury (and this was obviously a skeleton production crew) and the show would be toast. Some more endurance tests like loading up folks on food and setting them up in the Rotor? No park -- NONE -- would ever approve tarnishing its image with anything that would make it appear as a place to get sick.

The host? Pete, I'm sure he was a cool guy, but the problem is that there was just too much of him in the show. Even if it was someone well-known it would have come off as too much, but at least in that case there would have been some history and partial-justification. I liked the fact that the host was self-effacing. You know, he put himself down and that works in these shows, but you usually find that the dweeby host has a hot babe sidekick to help volley the jokes along. This guy shouldn't have been flying solo.

And the games themselves have to improve. Pete? You're telling me they only had two glasses? That sounds like something they just improvised once they got there just to get X into the show. It was a silly game to showcase a great coaster.

Face it. You had mentioned that even in person the scoring and rules were often a bit vague. I imagine these guys went back into the editing room and tried to make sense of it all. You and I picked up on your score being wrong before the X challenge, but I'm sure if you look through the tape you're going to find other inconsistencies (which is why they never really explained the bungee jump scoring grid).

Either way, congrats yet again. You and Crystal made the most of what you were given and you should be proud. Heck, stop by CoasterMania next week and try to tell Paul Rueben to get behind you in the VIP queue! LOL!

The next show will be better in terms of game-planning and hosting and a lot of the critics here will probably be the first ones to get their videos sent out there to apply for a spot.

For once, I wish they would go to some of the smaller parks like Wonderland, Magic Springs, Indiana Beach, Lake Winnie and so on. Oh well... I always have my 4 1/2 gigas of videos saved on my computer to watch. ;)

If they did, their ratings and overall impressions of Thrill Chills and Spills would nosedive right into the gutter. Not only do most people not know about these parks, but there is nothing interest-catching about those parks. They sport no high-tech supercoasters or thrillrides that are usually the centerpeice of these tv programs.

They even showed the one that had footage of Kneobel's Axis

Hey DC! Guess what? ITS NOT THERE ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
