My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

First off, Allegheny Co. owns the airtport property, which is over 10,000 acres. Any access in that region is not serviced by any major roads that is between the downtown and the airport. Pittsburghers are lazy at best.

First, a Regional MagLev is in it's final stages right now, and it will run to the airport, stop in the city at Steel Plaza, and then travel out to Greensburg, Westmorland county. Our "T" subway/light rail system already serves the South Hills, and is being expanded to serve the North Shore stadiums (PNC Park and Heinz Field) and neighborhoods. Eventually, the T will serve the North Hills as well. There are also busways (east and south) for Port Authority busses to easily reach many areas where the T does not travel. The last station on the T line is the east busway. There is an underground T station at Steel Plaza, so people can ride a bus to the T, and then the T to the maglev station, and therefore get to the airport area very easily. As you can see, the planned amusement park complex will be very easily accessable in 10 years or less. All the complex would need to do is run a monorail or tram to the MagLev station, and it would be instantly connected with most of Allegheny County.

Secondly, don't bash Pittsburghers; not everyone is lazy as you infer. *** Edited 12/12/2003 8:50:49 PM UTC by alpengeist13***

I havent heard anything about the MagLev in like 2 years, I figured it fizzled as well.

"Pittsburghers are lazy at best."

Too lazy to travel 20 minutes outside the city to go to an all day amusement park? It takes that long to get to kennywood from most areas of the city.

From what ive read, it seems like they dont have any money. and they expect to get the money from other corporations. Which probably will never happen.

Mmmmm, Quizno's....

Oh, you meant where did this guy work? ;) Dunno, I never saw the actual news broadcast.

It's amazing the "stories" Channel 4 will cover, though. Of course, some day they'll actually accidentally stumble across real news and be able to tout "You saw it here first!"

At first I thought this was a joke too!

WOW! This is awesome news!

I thought the survey was entertaining. I just wonder what they mean by "certain kinds of people"? LOL!

They must be talking about those kids and their annoying basketballs. ;-)

I think someone here should call up Channel 4 and tell them about CBA--CoasterBuzz Addiction. Perhaps we could make the news too! ;)

I think one of the investors is the Coaster Preservation Organization (formly Club,) so I'd watch out, all you naysayers.

What kind of rides are you gonna build next to an international airport, anyhow? How do you get a 10 minute coaster ride with a height restriction of 100'?

I said it in the news, and I'll repeat it here. Unless the investors have "Flags" or "Cedar" in their names, I'm not quitting my job quite yet.

C'mon, it's the CPO(fC) after a community college weekend web design class.

Oh, and since when will the "T" serve the North Hills eventually? It's been in service for about 20 years and still only goes a couple miles. Not with the Port Authority in debt and near bankruptcy it won't.

(Agent, my check says PNC. ;) )

Hi

KPJP, sorry aboout that. You were correct to bring up the height restriction. I am sure those investors considered that.

There will be no maglev anytime soon, and what public entity would build a monorail to connect to it. I don't think we will see the 'T' anytime soon in the North Hills. Maybe the stadiums. I was on it today actually, and saw the new stop at the PNC building. Not bad to finally expand it after 20 years.

And Pittsburgher's are lazy drivers. Can anyone say West View Park? How about Rainbow Gardens?

Pittsburghers aren't so much lazy as parochial. For example, if you were born in the north hills, chances are good you have never been south of the Monangahela. If you were born in the south hills, you have only been north of the Allegheney to see the Pirates or Steelers---and resented even that.

The more I read of that site, the funnier it is. It's seriously like some ARN&R prank.

1) Would you rather pay $15 or $35 to enter a park? Hmmm... lemmee think about that one.

2) Would you rather be guaranteed a wait less than 10 minutes, or do you enjoy standing in line? Wow. Way to collect the hard-to-get data.

3) "For children, check out our education complex or get your child's fingerprints and picture taken at our missing children pavilion" I can hear them now! Mommy! Mommy! take me to be fingerprinted again!

4) "For our adults we will have ...a lake to go fishing..." Yeah, fishing at the coaster place. Great idea. Much more relaxing than a secluded lake.

5) "plus a dance hall where teens can come and meet others in safety" I'm sure the kids will be jumping for joy. Nothing like supervised event centers to get those teens excited.

6) "Most everyone likes some form of music; well you will be listening to your favorites from our new amphitheater" MY favorites?! Really? You mean to tell me that Ladytron, Apoptygma Berzerk and the recently exhumed Ramones are appearing on one stage? Brilliant!

7) "If you are a company who is interested in having your product or services in our park please contact us." Now that's a sales pitch! I can see them lining up already.

Okay, okay, I'm shutting up.

Hi

Rainbow Gardens? Geez, I was beginning to think that I was just about the last person to remember that place. Used to go the roller rink there. The park itself wasn't much though. Then there was Burkes Glen out in Monroville, once home to a the Speed Hound, built by john Miller. When Rt. 22 was widened the park shrank to a miniature golf course and a swimming pool. If I recall that's gone now, too.
You might be suprised just what I know....

I cannot wait to try the 'regular pool'. *** Edited 12/13/2003 10:02:07 AM UTC by Agent Johnson***

AJ - The North Shore expansion of the T is actually already going out to bid, so the T will be expanding to there. As far as maglev, I've worked on or around that project for 4 years - it's not dead, but its living on borrowed time. At this point, a light rail line going west is looking a lot more likely, but hey, it could still happen given the right set of circumstances with the government funding.

And just the fact that I didn't see this story on KDKA leads me to believe its complete PXI/TAE crap ;)

Not bad, for whippersnapper..........
As much as I would like to see a park 20 minutes from my house, I don't foresee it happening. However, I just wanted to comment on a couple of points brought up.

1. Who ever said a coaster has to be over 100 ft to be good? Raven, Phoenix even our own beloved Jack Rabbit at Kennywood are all under 100 feet.

2. Considering the financial state of the Airport Authority right now, I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem selling off a couple hundred acres.

3. And as far as Airport expansion, highly doubtful, especially if USAirways pulls out.

4. I never understood the "noise" problem when the Nascar venue was proposed. There aren't any houses really close (think WoA close) to that area plus there is an Airport there and has been for years. How can a park be anymore loud than an airport? We live about 10 miles from the airport and planes are constantly going over our house, we don't even notice it we are so used to it. I'm sure the residents of zip code 15108 (prior resident myself) are more than used to the noise.

5. Pittsburgers aren't lazy it's just that after driving around all week for work or whatever else through the Pgh area which is inane at best, doesn't feel like dealing with it on weekends or days off. Example, we live 26 miles from Kennywood yet it takes us 45 minutes to get there (on a good day). It has taken us as long as 1.5 hours before. 26 miles/1.5 hours. Let me put that in perspective for you. We live roughly 100 miles from SFWoA and it takes us 1.5 hours to get there, not that I would chose WoA over Kennywood :)

The survey is quite amusing and just goes to show how clueless these people are, but it never hurt anyone to dream. Afterall, this is America, the land of opportunity.

I had the same thoughts... especially since it's proposed for land that the old terminal was on. It's been a noisy airport for far longer than anyone has lived nearby.

Ever since I started subscribing to the Post-Gazette I quit watching TV news. It's so nice having information that isn't in soundbites. I must admit to missing Dee Thompson, though. :(

Hi

Well I know the people I know who opposed the NASCAR (my family included) opposed it for the influx of people it would bring to the area (for transportation reasons, and parking, and "clutter"). Some of it was noise, but I think that the noise was just people trying to get their name heard and trying to establish their complaint so they could sue later.

Only problem is the PG requires a lot more time to get the important stuff than KD does. I don't like TV news and I don't really like journalists in general, but KD's the best of the bunch.
