"Thank our wonderful, repulican govt for this and all the kickbacks they take from the NRA and the gun industry."

Of course! Blame the republicans and guns for things like this. It all starts there, not with the individuals who actually shoot people. It's Dubya's fault!

Ugh...

The only statement spoken on this issue worth remembering is what the interviewed mother stated at the end of the WUSA/Washington news video, when asked if her family would return to the park again; "Of course we would...we can't let the actions of a few bad apples spoil a day a the park for everybody" (paraphrased).

Semi automatic weapons are now legal in this country again. There is no legitmate reason whatsover that any citizen needs one of these weapons, except to commit mass murder.

Unless you happen to be a gun enthusiast who enjoys guns on whatever level. There's really no reason anyone needs roller coasters either, except recreation. To some weirdos, guns are recreation and are dealt with responsibly.

Should that person be denied a pleasure because of the inabilty of a few nutjobs to handle a gun responsibly?

And besides, if people want semi-automatic weapons to kill with - they're probably not getting them legitimately to begin with.

What does this even have to do with the incident? No one jumped onto the hood of their car and went nuts action movie style. Some dumbass with a gun that he would most likely posses either way acted like the dumbass he is.

Just for the record - I don't own a gun, don't want a gun, have never even shot a gun and could personally care less if they were banned, production stopped and people who want them poked in the eye.

A gun will not hurt anyone on its own, but soimeone with criminal intent will use a gun to hurt someone else.

Whats next, try to ban knives with sharp points which has recently been proposed in Britian due to recent mahyem casued by criminals using knives.

Oh I’m here jan… I don’t have much to say about this incident as I’ve only been to SFA one time and have no knowledge about how operations at that park are in terms of security. I guess my only comment on the related issue is that I find it sad that something like this happened at an amusement park. I would think this would be most normal individuals first response to something like this. I certainly would not run out and laugh at an incident like this because another park has now entered SFMM territory in terms of guest safety. Seems like we’re rushing to endorse the least common denominator. I prefer to endorse better run parks…

As for the gun issue, I can only say that I do not own and have never fired anything more than a video game gun. All the OBJECTIVE studies that I have seen (I do not have time to link now, but may later) seem to indicate that whenever concealed weapons laws are implemented, the violent crime rate decreases for that area. This would make the liberal argument that less guns equals less crime rather foolish. I’m opened to being convinced either way on guns. For example, our friend who denounces the concealed weapon law in Ohio should be able to find objective evidence that after this law’s implementation; the violent crime rate went up. Is this what happened?

Until evidence exists to change my mind, I prefer not to get all-emotional and start blaming objects for people’s actions. I’m sure this is an extreme view to some of you…

P.S. I’m sick and going back to bed now. Argue away… I just got back from a wild KBF weekend…no shootings though!

SFA is where I get my season pass, but in my opinion it is pretty much a getto park. The crowd they attract isn't exactly the upper crust of society. The thing that I laugh the most is that I have never seen so many KFC boxes in one parking lot in my whole life. ;)

I do enjoy some of their rides, but the park is not at the top as far as atmosphere. They can't even compare to a Hershey or CP let alone Disney or Universal.

No, SFMM is the only place capable of Riots. No one ever said SFA didn't get shootings. Get yer facts straight.

Actually, TeknoScorpion that's not true. Knott's also has had riots before. At least 2 times that I can think of.

One time I think it was the park's (and a radio station's) fault in overbilling a free (i think) event that drew too many people one Cinco de Mayo. The other time I think it was just some trouble makers.

I think that everyone needs to take it down a notch, this can and does happen everywhere. At the moment I am in Toronto where they had a shooting in the parking lot of Canada's Wonderland and you can't tell me there are many cities that are half as nice as Toronto with a comparable crime rate. For all anyone know those responsible are'ent even from the area.
City with some of the most strict regulations in the nation: Washington DC

City with one of the highest murder rates in the nation: Washington DC

Do the math.

Side note:

A bumpersticker I saw one time was: "Politicians love unarmed peasants"*** This post was edited by SLFAKE 6/7/2005 8:43:18 AM ***

So the "PR" spin is now that bullets are "debris?"
I'm confused... Canada has implemented very strict gun control laws (among the most strict in the world). Have nasty Republicans infiltrated your society and started shooting people up there too? You guys need to shut down the borders.
Wow, Super7* you couldn't be more wrong. For one, semi-automatic (one trigger pull, one bullet) guns were never illegal at any point EVER. The assault weapons ban was a joke because it didn't really ban anything but some window dressing on a rifle. It did reduce clip size, but I also couldn't have a pistol grip on a rifle, or a collapsible stock. We all know how much pistol grips and collapsible stocks kill people.

SLFake, that is a great bumpersticker.
Also, and the anti-gun whackos don't want you to know this, but states and communities which have concealed weapon laws have lower crime rates. Why you may ask? Because criminals don't get CCW's . So how does allowing law abiding citizins the right to carry increase crime? They are also less likely to commit a crime if there is a higher chance their "victim" will fight back. There is a reason why Sweden (where full-auto weapons are legal and carried by 90% of the populace) has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. Disarming the common man just makes him vulnerable to the criminal population.

John

Oh yeah, show me one instance where a law-abiding citizen committed a crime?
How about the BTK killer? I'm not sure if he used a gun to kill, but for years he was considered a law-abiding citizen. I believe he even carried a gun for a job. And I will go out on a limb, and say he obtained his weapons legally.
However, to commit a crime, you are not a law-abiding citizen. Obviously you have broken some law, he was just never caught, at least until recently. "He was considered" is not the same as "He was". I dont' think he used a gun though. I believe his preferred form was strangulation, but I don't rememeber for sure.
SLFAKE- Let's remember the park isn't in Washington, D.C. but a suburb of Washington D.C.. D.C.'s Gun Laws wouldn't apply to SFA. As one other person said, no one knows what happened or where any of these people lived. As others have pointed out, violent crimes happen everyday. Amusement Parks, Shopping Malls, Movie Theatres, Schools Businesses... No one is immune from being a potential victim.
Juggalotus:

What's the difference between "considered" and "was"? Those are just words. It's like the old saying, "It's not illegal unless you get caught."

BTK had no record until he was caught, so technically, he was a law abiding citizen. Once he was caught, he became a criminal.

Caught or not you are still a criminal if you have committed a crime. When you kill someone, just because you haven't been arrested yet, doesn't mean you aren't a criminal.

From dictionary.com
"One that has committed or been legally convicted of a crime."

Just because you haven't been caught yet, doesn't mean you didn't commit a criminal act and become a criminal. He was perceived as a law abiding citizen, but he seemed to have some problems with that part where murder is illegal.
Law-abiding means you actually follow the laws, not just SEEM to follow the laws.
John

Buf', we're talking SF parks, not CF. Regardless, that was a stab at the SFMM riot thread from a short time ago, and it was a joke. I guess the right people got it.
"SFA is where I get my season pass, but in my opinion it is pretty much a getto park. The crowd they attract isn't exactly the upper crust of society. The thing that I laugh the most is that I have never seen so many KFC boxes in one parking lot in my whole life."

Finally... comments from people who actually live in the D.C. area. I agree 100%. And for the retard that said that SFA isn't in D.C.... well it isn't but due to the fact that it's the closest park it's going to bring that type of crowd, besides look at all the area's around D.C. Now I think it's time for me to go back to my corner and sling some rocks, make some real money!
