One dead, nine injured in roller coaster derailment at Grona Lund

One person was killed and nine injured, including children, in a roller coaster accident at the Grona Lund amusement park in the Swedish capital on Sunday, representatives of the park said. Eyewitnesses said the park's Jetline roller coaster had partly derailed during a ride, sending people crashing to the ground.

Mindbending that this can still happen. Very sad.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Good grief Rick_UK, as bad puns go that's well up there...!

Gröna Lund is on my bucket list. There are three attractions that I would most look forward to and Jetliner is one of them. I can’t imagine what the park is facing after this tragedy, and the details are just awful. Among small parks that manage to squeeze attractions in, they are the champion. Rides in that area are so intertwined that I can’t imagine how they’d remove or repair the ride without disrupting others.
My heart goes out to everyone involved.

^Also at the top of my most wanted park and coaster list. Champion of a park indeed.

Re: bad pun. I couldn't do much with Quimera !

Jetline in particular would be difficult to remove because it has another ride operating within its structure.

This makes how many Schwarzkopf ride derailments now?

3? Galaxyland, La Feria, and now this.

The former Zambezi Zinger also.

This shouldn’t happen period

The Mindbender Drier Looping and Jetline have open wheel assemblies unlike the earlier Schwarzkopf coasters. These appear to be the issue in all 3 accidents.

It’s a shame Schwarzkopf designed great coasters but unsafe trains.

I don’t think as long as Indiana Beach is taking to put together Drier Looping that I would trust it. It appears they just don’t have the resources.

Has anyone been to a park with a Schwarzkopf since this happened? Are the parks doing their usual closing of similar rides until everything is figured out thing? It would be terrible if this derailment negatively affects other Schwarzkopf coasters, because, as most enthusiasts know, they are amazing rides.

Jetline is technically a Zierer coaster, rather than a Schwarzkopf.

Parks and Resorts (Sweden) have closed all their Zierer rides for now.

From the looks of QueueTimes, the notable Schwarzkopf rides here in the US (Sooperdooperlooper, Revolution, Scorpion, Shockwave, Riddler/Mindbender) have all stayed open.

Lagoon has two, Jet Star and Colossus which I believe is a Drier Looping. I don’t know the current status but I do know that Jet Star is closed if there’s a drop of rain anywhere west of the Mississippi.

Sooperdooper, Revolution, and Mindbender all have new trains (Gerstlauer, in-house, B&M(!))

RCMAC:

Colossus which I believe is a Drier Looping.

Drier means triple. Colossus is a Doppel!

So what does the wheel assembly look like, and has it been the same for all three derailments? A lot of the other designs could have the axles fail and wheels come off, and the surrounding piece would keep it on the track (and presumably stop very quickly). I seem to recall it happening on Flight Deck at KI even.

All the cars are accounted for, so I'm guessing one or more of the riders were ejected when it came to a sudden stop.

Wow, the whole wheel assembly sheered off. Is that a part of the track or chassis attached to it?
