Olympic water cube opens as water park

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Beijing’s famous Water Cube, or National Aquatics Center, the place where two dozen world records were set during the 2008 Summer Olympics (and where swimming sensation Michael Phelps landed eight gold medals) has been converted into a water park -- or at least half of it has.

Super happy fun times to be having there. Splash with waters, smiles with fiends!

Yeah as soon as I saw that I smiled.

I think there is a severe lack of super happy magic stuff in the states.

As the token Chinese guy, I approve of all super, magic, and happy things.

That is a darn good idea. So many of these Olympic venues become monuments to excess. I wonder if this was the plan from the outset? I have to think it was considering how quickly it got done.

Andy, I thought you were Texan?

Wahoo, I can't remember exactly if it was this, but I know the Chinese Government wanted to do something with the watercube, and it was announced just after the olympics what it was going to be for. Not sure why only half is used, and what the other half will be.

Now I wonder what they're doing with the first (unbirds nest) stadium they built for the Olympics that they didn't use...

What a coincidence. All my exes live down there too.
