Official Maverick POV.

The two days I was there (Thursday and Coaster Mania Friday), I heard lots of cheers from the Maverick area. Maybe you caught it at a bad time, Swoosh. Even all the enthusiast friends I was with seemed to think it was a very fun ride and considerably better than Millennium Force.

IMO, the airtime on El Toro is way stronger. Other than bashing my neck, I'm not sure if the shoulder harness ever made contact with my body, so it's completely un-needed as far as I am concerned. The wrap-around lap bar portion and seat belt is plenty of restraint. *** Edited 6/23/2007 5:54:55 AM UTC by Acoustic Viscosity***

Other than bashing my neck...

You're the only one I've seen say this. I thought it was more of a 'neck-banger' than a 'headbanger' myself.

Then again, I've never had much problem on most of the rides that are notorious hand-bangers. Must be something about the way I ride?

Oddly enough on this trip we're on right now, I'm having the most headbanging problems on the B&M's...go figure. (Wildfire, Patriot, B:TR)

I didn't think Maverick was an offender at all. Even the 'bad' turns were more of a mild neck thing than headbashing for me. And those OTSR's aren't exactly unforgiving.

Seeing as at Coastermania, were what a majority of coaster fans with high expectations. I was a little disappointed the first time, but then I rode it again, and loved it. My friends all loved it the first time.

And I highly doubt, people screamed because they wanted off. Most people wanted another ride. If you were looking for a smooth ride then, riding a ride whose publicity statement was "The old west was never this wild!". What part of that says "Smooth like butter"?

Like any and every coaster, if you complain, don't ride it. Simple as that. It's a awesome ride, and i'm riding it again in a week.

I was at the park and all I heard was cheers and enthusiastic runs back to the line after exit by fans, even with all the anticipation I was extremely surprised at how fun the ride actually was, and definitely takes my number one spot for coasters at Cedar Point.

With that said however, I found that the ride will beat your shoulders up if you chose to go "arms up" throughout the ride. My first ride beat my shoulders up due to the wideness of the OTSRs, but didn't touch my head or neck. The second ride I kept my arms moderately down and it solved the problem, and I did hit my neck a couple of times through the second half of the ride, but nothing really painful or discomforting.

The launch area was definitely unexpected and quite fun, and the mist screens, along with the water bombs were turned on on the 21st.

Well in its defense I rode it twice, once during ERT and then again right before closing time. I did go up the exit though to get photos about midday, but all three times the reactions from the riders were the same. Weird, I guess I just went up there at "bad times" for reactions?!?! My second time I rode it was much better as I made myself as "big" as I could and I stapled myself so I wouldn't get any airtime to cause me to be launched into the OTSR and that helped some. I just do not care for the whippy portions there after the dive or after the launch. They are just not needed and still think they will be a problem as this ride ages.

The whippy transitions are what make the ride interesting and not another boring steel coaster. Unfortunately, the OTSR's don't mesh well with that. This ride would be fabulous with just a lapbar, but as is, it's just a fun ride, but not one I'll make a special trip to ride again.

Well after my front-seat ride in early morning on the 21st Maverick proudly took my #1 away from Millie, also knocking Voyage down to #3........

I experience zero head/neck banging and had an awesome, airtime-filled, incredibly fun ride! And that is after waiting through an hour and 5 minutes downtime and completely waisting my early admission! But I was first in line infront of a more-than-an-hour line so hey, I should be happy, right? ;)

I would also like to point out that they specifically tell you in the station, "Maverick is a very wild experience, so for the best quality ride, it is reccomended that you keep your arms down on the lap-bar handles, and keep your head back against the headrest throughout the whole ride." And they are NOT playin'! ;)

Yea, listening to them this time does make teh ride enjoyable. As with riding the back of the coaster. Definitely another kind of wild. I agree, it's not worth running to CP just to ride it. But you can't admit if you were in front of it, and they said it had a long wait, you would be like, psh. It's definitely worth the wait. I loved it.

I definitely agree that the OTSR's and transitions do not mesh well, though I did enjoy the ride. You can learn to ride it correctly and minimize the discomfort.

After getting off the ride at CoasterMania, someone who seemed like an upper-level manager asked my friend and I how our ride was. He seemed a little surprised when we didn't say that the ride was amazing. Definitely fun, but not amazing.

Maverick is my number 1 hands down.

Hands up is another story. :)

OTSRs found on all the new Intamin launch coasters are brutal. End of story. I'm not that tall and I am skinny and they KILL me on every ride.
