Notification when deleting/closing posts

Just wondering, in many situations when the mods close a topic, they leave a little message stating why they felt the need to take action. The recent *festivities* aside, do you ususally notify persons when a reply needs to be deleted. I know personally, I've had post removed and had no idea what was the *landmine* I stepped on.

Call me arrogant and egotistical, but I ALWAYS believe that I am "within the lines". But when it is felt that someone overstepped their bounds, it might be nice to tell them why. Who knows, they might actually *learn* something.

It depends entirely on the situation. Some members (like you) I would certainly let you know because I "know" you to a certain degree. If it's outright noise, especially from a new member, not usually. I don't have that kind of time (and I'm sure that the other mods don't either).

Just curious - if a message is deleted, are all messages that replied to it also deleted? Some of my posts on a certain topic (you know the one - sorry :)) were deleted for a reason unknown to me. I thought I was within the lines (maybe I wasn't; if so, I apologize), but possibly my posts went down with other deleted posts.
I know that I, personally, deleted all replies to a post I deleted (does that make sense? ;)) for a few reasons. First off, since the original point is gone, the member replying sort of look like an idiot replying to something that wasn't said. Also, the person who posted the original deleted post would know you were talking to them, so they'd reply to you, and the argument rolls on.
