Notification of status of submissions

I'd like to suggest that a method of notifying members if any submissions they have made have been either accepted or rejected. I'd like to see either an e-mail that is sent with each item's approval or rejection or a page in the "your account" area that displays the status of submissions as either "pending review," "accepted," or "declined."

Not a bad idea, but there are two problems. One, when something is rejected, it's outright deleted, so the record is gone, as if it never existed. The other problem is that, in the case of photos in particular, so many are contributed that it'd be a wave of e-mail for some people (ask Lord Gonchar).

If you have a particular question on a particular item, let me know. I know I approved a few DCA photos from you recently.

Oh, it's no biggie. I was just suggesting that so that I wouldn't have to bug you. ;)

(Back in suggestion mode) Since the contributions are deleted when rejected, perhaps the page in the "your account" section could still work. Of course, with the items deleted there would be no data in the database about them, but those that aren't delted could still return a "pending review" message. When an item is approved or rejected removal from the status page would indicate that you have at least looked at it. It wouldn't take too much of an effort (or brains) for users to then figure out if the submission is up or not... it could only be in one place if it's posted (news, photo, park, coaster, etc).

[edit: Actually, I will bug you about one thing. I just submitted a Montezooma's Revenge photo, but realized after it was uploaded that the coaster name selected was Boomerang. Monte' is quite obviously not Boomerang. Just a heads up.]

Like Jeff said, some of us don't need a million e-mails, but I can see where it might be useful to certain submitters.

Maybe a checkbox with "Notify me if my submission is used." Now if you don't hear back, it was rejected. If it was accepted, you'll get an e-mail.

Kind of like "Don't call us, we'll call you" - plus the checkbox gives people like myself the option of not getting the e-mail at all.

Well, now that I think about it, it would be pretty easy to generate a private message, which will be in the next version of the forums. However, that's way, way down the road, as I don't expect to do a lot of tweaking to CB for awhile. Most of what I've been working on lately will go toward a different project, then be retrofitted into this site later.

I'm really into high-performance code lately, which CB needs badly as it's not as clean and fast as it should be. Granted, it's based on code I wrote nearly a year before it went live in its current form, so naturally it has room to change. Amazing what one difference of experience can do.

Jeff, I've noticed that you have updated/posted some submissions that I sent in a while ago. Thank you very much for accepting and posting some of my submissions on some overseas parks and rollercoasters that I've been to. I know there are still a few left to do but I just want to say that you are doing a great job on this site and I appreciate your efforts. Thanks again.
