while I agree this is a coaster website, I am a member of many other message boards (car related), and they all have off topic forums. They are where I spend most my time, and why I haven't posted much here for a while. They bring a sense of community to the boards, and ppl get to know each other and make many friends....IMO, they are vital to all message boards....and I would love to see one here...heck, I'd help moderate it.-----------------
I couldn't agree more. Thrillride used to have a great message board before it closed down or whatever (anybody know what happened there). They had the usual coaster mumbo jumbo along with a general talk section where you could talk about anything. I also wholeheartedly agree with it inspiring a sense of community. I think you'll find that you'll get to know people a lot better and possibly find some hook-ups for park visits. It would also add some character to the board that you don't get otherwise. Long story short, I've been searching for a coaster board that has a general talk forum for all these reasons. This board really isn't that special at the moment, but has a load of potential, due to the number of people who frequent this site. Potential is nothing without action, though, and a general talk forum would push this board over that edge into being a truly fun board to spend all your waking hours at.
There are as many forums out there as there are people out there. If I want to talk about general nonsense I'll talk to someone directly. However, here at this site, it's limited to 100% amusement related stuff.
It just ain't gonna happen, sorry.
The only "potential" an off-topic forum has is the potential to get out of control.

That's true, and I've seen it happen, but it only happens when the board isn't moderated. Any kind of moderation will keep the board under control. Lets face it, you can't talk about nothing but coasters 24/7, but who better to talk about other random stuff with than people you already share a common interest with? How many aliases can you honestly say you remember from this board? My answer is not many, mainly cause there is no interaction. Interaction is what makes message boards fun to be a part of. I believe the reason you don't get that here is because there are no real in depth discussions about anything. Also, no one seems to disagree about anything here. What fun is it when there are no opposing views?
Come on guys, show your support for a general talk forum, I know you want it.
Jeff - if a general talk forum isn't going to happen, then where can I go to talk about roller coasters, as well as music, sports etc with fellow coaster lovers? Cause this board just won't cut it.

Then have a nice day... see you later. I'm not going to change my mind just because you or anyone else says I should.

When are some of you going to realize that you can sign petitions, send e-mails, picket Jeff's house, etc., and it doesn't make a difference? If the dude doesn't want to do it, he's not going to do it. It's his site. He pays for the bandwidth, therefore he reserves the right to have whatever content he likes.
If you want a message board full of "Dude I think that chick in my 6th period class is wearing a thong" posts, then by all means, go start your own site. I know I won't visit it.

Just how much time do you think we HAVE in a day? The mods all have real lives. And what kind of guidelines could you possibly set for moderation of an "anything goes" forum?
There's just no need for an off-topic area. If you want to talk to someone about something that's not coaster-related, AND they're even interested in hearing from other people, then that's what the email and IM entries in the profile are for.

Funny... I can't think of another site on the planet that is criticized equally for its moderation at both ends of the spectrum (see recent closed "vs." topic none of us saw until it got long). Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

While your add it Jeff why not just take down the suggestions forum because there are a ton of suggestions but have you taken one? No! Its because your site is already "perfect" and we have to have the perfect forum with no vs. topics or any thing that may "cause argument". Thats why I thought we were here to discuss coasters and our opinions about them! But it seems to me you (jeff) are to stubborn to take the opinions of the people (cbmembers) that keep this site kicken.

PS - one more thing I was thinkin of joining the CB club but why should I? I mean do you care what WE think? You don't take ANY suggestions. You haven't and you won't ever.

Superdude: Buh-bye. Have fun on someone else's site. Maybe they'll be more recpetive to your "constructive" criticism.
