no ravine flyer2 in the coaster buzz top 100

The Mean Streak, when it first opened (in 1991, NOT 1992, and forward) was an excellent ride. It was wimpy compared to its 'brother' the Texas Giant, but was still a very fast, smooth ride. From the 3rd drop (which has been reprofiled to remove any 'uplift forces') to the block break was some of the best coaster track anywhere - at the time.

It's not surprising to me that it was in the top 10 - not only b/c it was a great ride, but also being at CP (even in 1991) seems to push up their ratings. This was also at a time when Timber Wolf was at #1, GA Cyclone was close behind, and Texas Giant was a force to be reckoned with. Again, this was the opening year of the ride(s) mentioned, by the time 92-93 came round, they were all heavily tamed, and getting VERY rough.

Remember the days when Mean Streak looked so HUGE? I mean, yeah, Magnum is bigger, but all of that wood in MS just made it look so intimidating.

These days, it's still very pretty, but not as "mean" looking.

^Yeah! It was the talk of the Point, big time. That was the first summer I worked there, and there were warnings to be careful driving along Perimeter Road, as everyone was 'looking at that new ride'.

Holiday World experienced the same thing with Voyage. Though, I'm not sure they have what most people would call traffic.

Aha, I found it. It was Theme Parks Magazine that had Mean Streak at #9 in 2006, not Golden Ticket. I knew it was fairly recent because I remembered it was during my season pass era. There was a giant banner on the ride announcing its accomplishment. I also remember being shocked because MS was already pretty atrocious four years ago.

Inside Track is the magazine I was quoting from 1993.

OMG...Inside Track! I used to love that publication. Shame all the subscribers got screwed.

I vaguely remember that "controversy." Be wary of anyone in the amusement business trying to sell you media, I always say. Unless it's CoasterBuzz, of course. ;)

Yep. Proof that the parks will cite anything to sell themselves. (photo)

That photo is funny because it looks like only 8 people are riding what is called the "top ten best wooden rollercoasters.

I've ridden Voyage with fewer riders...not exactly sure what your point is ;)

I understood his point. I can't recall a full train of riders an time I have ever rode MS.

That banner should be an embarrassment to the park, imho.

I've ridden Mean Streak with full trains many times.

I've only ridden it twice, and though I didn't really wait in line, the trains were full.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

What were they full of? ;)

I had my first kiss in a public place on Mean Streak. (Ahh, the memories.)

Ouch!

We both had to go to the oral surgeon the next day, to replace our broken teeth and get stitches in our lips. ;)

Just hope neither one of you had braces. ;)

Some slightly interesting movement this week. Griffon held on to making the cut, and hasn't changed position.
