Next wave of new coasters?

in the mid 90's  it was inverts like Batman, Montu, and Raptor.....later 90's,  a stand up was the new kid on the block that everyone wanted to own: Riddlers Revenge, Mantis, and Chang. At the start of 2000, the hypers were the thing to have, with Goliath, Millenium Force, and Steel Dragon. What will the next wave of new rollercoasters be?
I think the 4th-Dimension will be cloned several times... I think SFGadv is the next park to get one.

Although I'm a SFMM 2001 season pass holder, I can't ride X because I'm from Europe :(:(:(
I agree with the 4d. It will be hard to top that (although that's what was said about the flyer). I also think the next wave will be in 03-04.

I think the next wave will be 4-D's and B&M flyers because 4-Ds are awsome and 2 parks are alredy getting B&M flyers (SFOG & AT) just my 2 cents.

The next wave will be the flyers and the 4d's as everyone has said. But also, there will be an Attack Of The Giovnalas (sorry if i spelled that wrong) I am not going to say what kind, but they are coming.
It's all about rider possition these days.

I'm praying that steel-wise, the 4D sweeps the world.  I'm telling you right now, this is the future.

I think it is obvious that the next wave of coasters is here now, whatwith the advent of LIM/LSM and hydraulics.  Take a look around and all you seem to see being announced are launched coasters.  Wicked Twister, Dodonpa, Xcellerator (sp)...  I highly doubt that 4Ds will become the next big wave.  I think they are very interesting, and very different, but hardly easy to build and the costs are simply outrageous.  Most parks will NOT spend that kind of money for something so trendy, and regardless of what many people think....trendy it certainly is........:)

Six Flags Great Adventure 2003 that's all I can say
Does anybody know for sure how large the invesment was by SFMM for X?  All in know is, its the best steel coaster I've ever ridden, and until we know for sure how much a park will have to shell out for one of these things in the future, we just don't know.

Granted, I agree Ravenguy98, but you do understand that there is no probable way a smaller Six Flags park would consider a 4D.  I could see another at SFGam and I could see a 4D at BGW (which would be nice to offset the B&M coasters nicely.  Imagine a 4D flying through the woods of Williamsburg!  In regards to the pricetag, I have heard it was roughly $25 million.  Not too bad, heh...

By the way, I am not knocking X, as I haven't even ridden it.  I am sure it is amazing, but it is more than a bit esoteric, and parks tend to say no to that sort of investment.

14 million....wow!  Not that bad an investment, as long as it holds up.  Do you have a link to that information?

...with all the steel used, I'm surprised it wasn't more! That's about a little less than the average B&M inverted...

Mayday - Memorial Day Weekend - Nonpoint, Nickelback, Oleander, Staind
Ozzfest - June 8 - Drowning Pool, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Black Sabbath
Awake Tour- June 15 - Darwin's Waiting Room, Puddle of Mudd, Deftones, Godsmack

yea, i can see the 4D being the next big thing for parks to have. After the huge amount of positive reactions to X, parks will be lining up to get their own.
Yes it was 14 million  and that was a deal only to SFMM for taking the risk of building it. So in other words future models will be much higher. Also there is no telling how much more money SFMM had to pay b/c of the delays.

As for being the next wave, I can certainly see 4d's, B&M flying, and Launched coasters being built more and more in the years to come.

The thing you have to remember though, is that the investment that Six Flags can put into one of their parks is not always equal to the size of the parks size/revenue/attendance.  If Six Flags felt like it was time for SFEG to get a signature ride (all hypothetical, using SFEG for example) then maybe they could put a 4D in.  A smaller one, granted.    Look at the ride package Geauga Lake/SFO/SFWOA got just a few years ago.  Remember, there has already been conisderable talk of Arrow offering much smaller 4d coasters to parks, which makes sense.  Who knows?  X may be the biggest, grandest 4D we see in a long time.  The great thing about this kind of design is that the whole concept could make even a 80 ft. tall coaster totally mindblowing, and relatively cheap as opposed to a new Beemer or something like that.
Almost 10 yearts earlier CP spent 12mill on Raptor and 14Mill in 96 for Mantis. So SFMM spending 14mill in 2001 for X really isn't that much cash.Especially when CP is spending 9 mil for an Impluse.I think Intamin is the worst value, Compared to Arrow and B&M.
Raptor costed 10 million. Mantis costed 12 million. The Riddler's Revenge was a 14 million coaster.
