I really don't think after a few weeks that Gatekeeper will shorten the Maverick line. Why, if nothing else does it, would Gatekeeper shorten the Maverick line once the novelty wears off? One can always hope, but I call BS.

Bunky...new "attractions" have been installed since Maverick...but this is the first new COASTER installation. Maverick's line will remain long due to the fact that its location means most people "back there" are there FOR Maverick....but I will virtually guarantee that Maverick's line will be *on average* about 1/3 less than it would be without Gatekeeper...maybe even more.
Lesson learned after 15 years....the newest attraction will almost always be "the draw."
I think you're correct for right now, but I still don't think in a year or two people are gonna know any different (enthusiast or not), and they're gonna go for the best rides in the house (still Maverick). The fact that Maverick is in a pretty isolated area of the park and still sees waits of well over an hour with all trains running says to me that while Gatekeeper will draw even more people, after the next two seasons or so, Gatekeeper will not make a difference in Maverick's wait. Does Spider-Man have a shorter wait because of Harry Potter? Not really.
But like I said, one can definitely hope. I hope to head out there some time next year and hit up CP and Kings Island, and it would be great to get in a few more Maverick rides than last time (one ride each CP trip for a total of two rides. Boo).

Maverick is a ride in which you never know what you're gonna get. It's a lot smoother in the colder weather. When it gets warm, it gets kind of rough.
See, to me, Maverick was never rough in the sense of I got off the ride and said, "Ugh, that was so ROUGH and painful". It was more like, "Man, I'm gonna have a bruised neck and sore ears and it was SO WORTH IT!" I'd call it more...aggressive, I guess. I guess I think of rough as jarring, bumping, pothole-y, lurching rides. Like Maggie on a bad day.

See, rough rides are fun if they don't have over the shoulder restraints, and if they actually have exciting elements. That includes Beast, Flight of Fear, and Voyage on the fun list, and Mean Streak, Vortex, and occasionally Maverick on the not fun list. All these rides are rough, but roughness does not make or break a coaster.
I don't find Maverick rough at all. It's just that the ride bangs you into the restraint a bit. It's more like the ride's "character" than actual, physical bumps on the track.
^^ Exactly!! It is spunky (says Bunky). :D

I laughed out loud, so I just voted up before actually looking up what spunky meant.
Oh god, does it mean something other than spirited or feisty? I've gotta look it up!!
I was panicked that I made a really dirty joke again accidentally, but no, in this case, my joke remains G-rated. *laughing*

Spunky is language used by some elementary aged kids. I've actually heard an elementary kid call me spunky, so I would hope it wasn't dirty.
What would you guys think of RMC retracing the Voyage?
^^Didn't they already try out some topper track on Voyage a couple years ago? Then remove it and go with good old all-wood track? Or maybe I'm thinking of Silverwood's Tremors. Or maybe both? I seem to remember Paula saying the topper track was an option, but they didn't go with it.
I don't think it ever got put on, but it was something they were looking at.
I'm pretty sure they tried out the RMC trains on Voyage or something. They did get new trains a year two ago.
Those were new Timberliners. I think due to Voyage's "extreme forces, speeds, banking, etc." that the standard Timberliners may not be durable enough for that specific ride. I think it's more about Voyage than those trains - they operate just fine based on my experience with Wooden Warrior and the reports from friends on Grona Lund's Twister.
Yeah, but when the Timberliners weren't ready didn't they have to put different trains on because the original Voyage trains were already sold? Or something? I thought I remembered something about that.
