NEWSFLASH for SFGAm!

actually i know when they will open!
I was listening to the radio this morning on a local station in Rockford called WXRX and they said that they were going to Six Flags Great America on May 19th and they were calling it X day. Antway they said that that you would be able to ride the Deja Vu and Vertical Velocity!

Actually, when B96 was advertising their little shindig at SFGAm back in late april, they also said that the two coasters would be running, so I would take any radio station's "announcment" with a grain of salt.

Youll know when v2 opens, because it will have a media day. On that note read this

Well I guess you have found the article that proves that it will not be open this weekend!

DÉJÀ VU – Fast Forward…Blast Backwards!
I heard that WXRX commercial too. I wouldn't doubt that V² could be finished, but Deja Vu doesn't have a chance.

Read the article both coasters will not be ready for the WXRX event!

DÉJÀ VU – Fast Forward…Blast Backwards!
Finally we can put this to an end. I do think that is it a little strange that they are waiting another 2 weeks (actully more) before they open V2 to the public. I mean, they already started testing this week. But either way, at least now we know when it will be opened. I know I will be there that weekend.
Man I'm tellin' you.

Those dates in that article probably aren't accurate either. I don't think anyone knows when they will open.

Want me to tell you what I think?

I'll tell you anyway. I think this construction is just a front for a big drug running operation in which drugs are shipped from Columbia inside of coaster tracks. These coaster tracks are then broken down by the construction crew, which is also known by the underground as "The Constructors". The constructors disguise their "business" in a legit fashion by selling 25th anniversery cups displaying a Hypercoaster as the American Eagle. So in effect, v2 and Deja Vu will never open.

Now the question remains, who is the brains of this crime syndicate?

Hint: He's the one who pushes the dippin dots.

you didn't hear that from me however.
I'm pretty sure that it is Great America's 26th anniversery season....As a matter a fact i know so..last year was 25..But I remember they still had the 25 logo everywhere on opening day..WHY? THEY had a half a year to change it...had sky whirl still been there they wouldn't have even bothered to re-paint the 25 logo over the motors...Also the dippin dots cart doesn't move...just a few flaws in your theory....but good point...lol

Six Flags Great America, the only park in the world where you can swing your feet on 3 Roller Coasters and 4 rides-
Actually, if you think about it, SFGAm opened in 1976. If you do the math, last year was only their 24th season;). This year is their real 25th season.
I am having problems understanding why V2 will is not already done. Its a very small coaster and if I remember right Raging Bull was opened to the public on opening day. It doesn't make sense sure they are making two coasters (if thats what you want to call them) but wouldn't you think at least one would have been finished in time for opening day I just don't get why great america doesn't go after something like x-flight and a v2 instead of making two very similar coasters.

Raging Bull didn't open on the opening weekened. I think it was a few weekends after opening day. But the difference is that Raging Bull was in construction by November. If the started construction on V2 and Deja Vu about 1 month earlier, they both would have been opened by now.

The main reasons for the delays in getting these two coasters done sooner are three-fold.

1) Heavy snowcover that lasted until the middle of February delayed the digging of footers.

2) When they could finally start going "vertical" in the construction phase, heavy rains hit the area.

3) And last but certainly not least, there were many days that very strong winds made it impossible to use the cranes to position the pieces.

You add all these delays together, and it adds up to all the delays we are encountering in getting to ride these new coasters.

I think the coasters will be open soon but V2 before Deja Vu
Thanks for the explanation that helps, but doesn't anyone out there besides me question why Great America is getting two similar coasters and not something bigger and better. What I mean is they are both small zoom you up and around and then bam your done. I know I know if you like this kind of coaster this is great but I would have just been in favor of making one of them and then using the other money and space for something else like an x-flight, floorless, or even fixing shockwave (or getting rid of it)
I would guess that the total price on these two coaster probably isn't anymore than $10 mill. That might have something to do with it, SF can install two coasters for very little money. As far as I'm concearned, SFGAm has the overall best selection of coasters in the US(and that includes CP), and even though these are not complete circuit coasters, they do add to SFGAm's rep as having the most variety. You guys are going to have a fun summer! *** This post was edited by DWeaver on 5/10/2001. ***

That's because SFGAm doesn't have any types of coasters like these. That's why they decided to build them so SFGAm can have a wide variety of different types of coasters. I think it was real smart of them to build these coasters. SFGAm now has 12 coasters, and each one is different and unique.

i don't disagree great america does have a wide variety of coasters, but take for instance iron wolf, batman, and shockwave. I'm not sure how people can say that iron wolf is a great coaster. Its small and it makes your head jolt around sure it good for those of you who don't like the height or the length. It just jolts you around something fierce and I know there were rumors of removal of both iron wolf and shockwave at one time. Shockwave just kills your neck its enjoyable once but most of my friends won't even ride it with me anymore. When people see that its in the parking lot I think that scares them to. I also would be in favor of spreading Iron Wolf out a bit I know you couldn't do it but it would need a makeover for me to even begin to think it was any fun. I know I know again I'm being a cynic I like great america but there is jsut a few things that they might be able to do to put it up there with the pki's, cp's and sfmm's of this world. Raising the lift hill by 50 or so feet would help as well. :) (Iron Wolf) Just wondered how everyone else feels about this I know this is a little of the topic but just thought i would give my opinion for what its worth.
roller: Iron Wolf is one of the more enjoyable rides to me. It still has a "thrill" factor to it. The most impressive part of the ride to me is in the second half where it turns to the left then dives to the right, just before the corkscrew. That move gets me everytime (especially in the back). I still wish that shockwave had a first drop like Demon (straight that is). Raging Bull and Viper are two of my favorite coasters. All around, I think SFGAm is better than SFMM and is on exactly equal footing with CP & PKI (as those 2 plus SFGAm comprise my 3 favorite parks). Additionally, SFGAm is the best themed out of them all.
