News as a forum, too?

(Generally, I don't suggest any changes to things that I think are doing fine without me, but...)

Due to a series of events entailing my computer crashing, having to reformat and reinstall, and therefore being away for 1 1/2 weeks, I was thinking...

Once news items disappear from the front page, they seem to lose their activity pretty quickly.  Since topics in the General Buzz forum are usually closed if they duplicate a news topic, what do you think about making the news items in to identical forum topics... able to be accessed from either page;  this way new posts would easily be trackable, even on older topics.

I was interested in a couple of items which I thought that I may be able to contribute some insight to, but being that they were a couple of weeks old by the time I read them, I felt that my opinion simply would be lost.

What do you think about this as a way of furthering good discussion?

Yea, I agree, although I also say post them there immediatly, and generate the frontpage from, say, the newest 5 or 6 there.

I changed the news duration to two weeks, so they won't away faster than that. Generally speaking, even forum topics have a shelf life of about four or five days, so that should help.

If something does drop off of the current news, feel free to start a topic on it. It doesn't matter to me.
