This weekend, V2 finally reopened, and you know, I just had to be there. And... OMG, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think the new (and improved) V2 is actually waaay better than the original! The launch doesn't seem to be much slower if at all, and going through the 45 degree barrel rolls is a lot funner than doing them vertically. The long pause you get when you hit the straight part of the 45 degree spike is amazing! It's certainly a lot more exhilarating than the sub one second of weightlessness on the old one.
Here are some answers to some people's questions:
1. Yes, some people are actually turned sideways in awkward positions on the first and third trip up the 45 degree spike since the train does not traverse the entire spiral area. On the second trip, the train makes it all the way up, into the straight part.
2. The "step" is just that - a step. It is not one of those high tech contractions like on B&M inverteds. It just basically raises the floor a couple of inches.
3. The holding brake is working!!!
I knew it would be "funner." ;)

I don't know if it is just me, but you seem to know everything tonight, Jeff. :) Ohh, that's right, never mind, you do know everything - that Magic 8 ball of yours has had a good run.
I'll back you up though. What is the point of the twists on the vertical ones? All you can really see is the ground - mind you a nice 360 view of the small area around the base of the spike.
However, with this, you're spinning in every which way, and probably see a lot more, and it feels more out of control subsequently.

I was thinking about this a while ago, and this cannot be a bad thing. Think of almost any flatride that inverts its riders like a Top Spin, Inverter or Looping Starship. Those rides are all about hanging in the restraint while upside down. The split second on the New V2 won't be a problem, and probably the best part of it, for some people.

So which version is more funner?

LOL. More fun.
Glad to see taller is not always better! However, I'll bet Wicked Twister is still the best impulse. V2... I mean D1 (diagnol velocity) is really not an impulse anymore.

Do you even know what Vertical Velocity means? That statement you made was pure bogus. Also, many riders agree that the 2nd generation impulses are still the best(S:UE, Screaming Condor, V2). Wicked Twister is a lot of fun but many people agree that it's not as good without the holding brake which is known as the best part of the ride.
I'll be staying at my grandparents house in Vacville this summer(and she bought me season passes to SFMW :) ) After going on this V2, I'll have been on all four variations of the impulse and I'll be able to tell you which is the best.
So far it's like this:
1.Vertical Velocity
2.Wicked Twister
3.Linear Gale

I don't think Linear gale would be that exciting all it does ig go up and down.-----------------

Linear Gale was superb especially with two holding brakes. You never know when they will hold you on that fronnt spike and the glass tunnel added for a great effect. Don't judge this ride by appearance, besides any ride that has a big vertical drop has to be exciting.

Haha... it was late. Sorry. =P
Well, I'll let it go as long as you were out on coasters. Other than that, there's no excuse!!! :)

It looks great, and what is this about funner... you must mean more fun.
And I also thought the old V2 sucked.

Vertigo, Linear Gale has 0 holding brakes and never has. Did you even ride it?edit:
Yes Vertigo, there is no glass tunnel on Linear Gale. What are you talking about? Are you sure you rode it?????
I even have older pics of it from a friend, and there was no glass tunnel nor brakes a few years back
