My girlfriends father who is the head chairman of the planning board, told her that there was talk of a Six Flags coming to Kingston, New York... i dont know if this is a rumor, or what. But she told me that her father was talking to other planning board chairman and they told them they were looking for property. If anyone has any information please post.
I say it isn't happening. The new management hasn't even had a good 2 year run with the chain of parks, so I doubt a brand new Six Flags theme park is in the works. A LOT has to be fixed with the current parks and I'm sure the last thing on management mind is to buy another park let alone a new one built from the ground up.
And keep in mind, they're still carrying a $1.9 billion debt load and that was AFTER they recently completed the sale of 7 properties.
Six Flags as a name brand and company has not built a park from scratch since the 1960's and I don't think they're going to start now.
I bet what your girlfriend's father meant was a park like Six Flags. With the chain selling off parks and doing what they can to keep the others open while paying off billions in debt I can assure you they're not looking to build any new parks anytime soon.
The only thing Kingston has going for it is that it was the original capital of New York State. Other than that, Kingston is really a nothing little town and I don't think Six Flags would put a park up there. Besides, it would only be about 2.5 hours away from Great Adventure, which already draws from the heavy NYC-Philadelphia markets.
Considering Six Flags just sold one upstate NY park and has another one, I doubt this is going to happen. But I'd sure love to see another park built in that region!
Are you guys referring to the sale of Darien Lake? Isn't Darien Lake in Western New York--or perhaps Central New York? I always thought Upstate New York was the Northeast corner of the state, East of Lake Ontario and North of its southern shore.
I spoke to a friend of mine who is a homeowner in Kingston asd she told me that Six Flags, LTD. has indeed purchased land there and they are also finishing the construction of two Marriot Marquis Hotels. I personally cannot vouch the veracity of this information but unless she was mistaken she would not be making this up as she stated to me it is in all the local ares newspapers.
I suppose upstate NY is the northernmost part of the state, although pretty much anything outside of NYC/Manhattan is considered "upstate NY" to those of us living in NJ. There's not much of NY that's "downstate".

Darien Lake is East of Buffalo.
It would be considered to be in the Northwest part of New York.

Wow you mean someone wants to build a park with closed rides, trash filled midways, surly employees and poor customer service? I'd think Shapiro would sue for copyright infringement. ;) *** Edited 4/27/2007 9:58:29 PM UTC by RatherGoodBear***
I live in Kingston and haven't heard anything except for a rumor of a new water park possibly being planned but that was a couple years ago... Although I wouldn't complain if they were to build one :) I doubt it though with how much debt they're in and anyways its only about two hours away from the Great Escape & New England and about three hours from Great Adventure.
