New SFGAm Rides

CLOSED RIDES - I can't believe some of you have never seen the "closed until 1:00" signs!! They've been using them for years - mainly on flat rides toward the baclk of the park. Last year, I went three times, and each time, Iron Wolf did not open until one. Neither did Fiddler's Fling or the nearby Carousel (all run by the same ride ops). I've often noticed that Triple Play and some of the Southwest Territory flat rides also do not open right away. The Haybaler, Sky Whirl and Cajun Cliffhanger used to be notorious for not opening until the afternoon.

FOOD - Yeah, it sucks. I used to work there and they fed us the same food in the cafetaeria. It's flavorless, disgusting and very overpriced. When I go with my friends, we bring food and picnic in the parking lot...either that or walk to Burger King.

LANDSCAPING - It may not be perfect but it looks like the botanical gardens compared to the dull scenery of Cedar Point.

FUTURE RIDES - I'm not a Demon fan. I used to like it but now it's gotten a little painful. Speaking of pain, they should be handing out Tylenol at the end of Iron Wolf. I'll be sad if the Whizzer is torn down... it's a good relaxing ride. I would like to see a good full circuit coaster come to the park though, it's been a few years.

The reason for the "RIDE OPENING AT NOON" was for staffing reasons. Certain rides are geared to open at certain times fot staffing issues. Example: Iron Wolf and Fiddler's Fling are one unit. So anyone that wants to work at Iron Wolf they also get the pleasure of working at Fiddlers Fling. The park then saves money by not staffing the ride until noon. Hence the reason for the ride opening at this time signs. Later.

I find it interesting that a topic about new rides at Great America has turned into an all out pizza war. Now we all know that the best pizza is made north of the border in Wisconsin because we put tons of cheese on it and that is what makes pizza good. I do remember a really good pizza place in Lake Forest though that was called Pierro's(I think) that served some really kick butt deep dish spinach pizza.

To keep this on topic though, I think that removing a ride and replacing it with something else might happen as additional rides could cause problems with staffing issues. Just a thought though and I am just throwing this out to argue with all you Chicago pizza freaks. :)

What I would call a south side a pizza joint...they are usually little family-owned places...Not the dine-in restaurants like Giordanos, Connies, or Eduardos. Being such, it's hard to name any particular place.

As far as "North Side" pizza being available on the "South Side" nowadays it's common. Kinda like a Cubs fan from the south side or a Sox fan from the north side...

For those who seem convinced SFGAm doesn't have any room to expand, take a look at a map for PGA (http://www.pgathrills.com/visit_map.jsp) and see where they've put some of their coasters. Especially take note of the placement of Top Gun and Vortex - SFGAm hasn't used that land for *anything*, so if PGA can squeeze them in, SFGAm no doubt can. Also know there's a good chunk of land between Viper, the go-karts, and Whizzer.

Difference is that PGA is surrounded by weeds and has more land thatn you would think. They also don't have neighbor problems because their only neighbors are a bunch of industrial parks. Actually, you could fit a something pretty massive in Top Gun's area, since it only circles the perimeter of its land and go over a swamp.

SFGAm's so-called "neighbor problems" are exaggerated, IMO. Yes, there are neighbors on the B:TR side of the park. And yes, SFGAm has to propose projects to the city every time they plan to build a coaster. But that's *never* stopped the park from getting approval; on the contrary, the neighbors seem very respectful and understanding of the park's needs.

The past few major rides have been installed on the other side of the park, however, most likely to avoid potential problems altogether. Major rides need to be spread throughout the park, though, and I think the area near the Theatre Royal would be a good move. B&M coasters can be filled with sand to reduce noise, and walls can be built to keep the sounds of screaming riders inside the park. And remember that V2, probably the noisiest ride in the park, was built on that side of the park. If SFGAm wanted to use that chunk of land, I don't think it would be a problem at all, with some minor alterations.

Off topic, i perfer the thin crusted pizza's with miunds of great Wisc. Cheese!!!!

And i think that when a park opens, all rides should be open and running and it cheapens the park to have coasters/flat rides closed till anywhere from noon to 200pm . With the amount that they charge for everything from admissions to food they can afford to operate all rides if they choose to but would rather diminsh the guest experience. I would like to see Demon removed and have them out in a ride like Reptar at PKI. And im glad to hear they worked on the Whizzer loading station and im hoping that means it wont be removed any time soon!

god you stupid wisconsin hicks...when will u ever learn that it's not the cheese that makes the pizza....IT'S THE SAUCE!!! GO SOX, CUBS SUCK!!!

Wasnt this about flat rides? Anyway SFGAm doesnt need any. Havnt any of you rode that swingy thing in front of B:TR?????? While waiting for V2 once I rode that beast like 8 times in a row. I swear it is so fun! Who said it had to be extreme to be the best flat ride in the park??? Ride it! You will be amazed by its power.

I was *this* close to agreeing with "the guy". I've actually had some pizza that was decent that had *NO* cheese (I was dating a woman who was lactos-intolerant). I was suprised that it was a good as it was (not great mind you, but edible). I think you Wisconsinites (or whatever you call yourselves) should stick to beer, brats and whatever that little pastry is so popular at the state fair. You all are REAL good at that.

But then the guy had to go a say the silliest S-H on the internet and claim to be a Sox fan. I rather be consigned to the Hell of being forced to eat NY style pizza than ever choose the Sox over Cubs. As far as actual play goes, they both can buy a championship, but at least the Cubs have a good ballpark; instead of the UFO by the projects!

As for SFGAm flat rides, let's be real: They *DO* have a bunch of them, but NONE are of current style. I think the most *innovative* or *state of the art* flat ride they have is either Power Dive (SBNO) or Condor (discounting Giant Drop). Otherwise, it's all pretty old technology. A breakdance, flippin' out, rotoshake, top scan or afterburner couldn't hurt in the least.

Can you imagine if SFGAm served Giordano's? Oh, the bliss......

By the way, the amazing pizza place in Lake Forest is called Ferrentino's. It rivals Giordano's for my affection as the #1 pizza joint in the suburbs.

At the State Fair you must be talking about "Cream Puffs". I also would agree "Go Cubs" but the best sports team in Chicago has to be the "BlackHawks"!!!

Rather than just plain flat rides i would perfer a flat ride if it had some type of theming. Do something like PKI did with Tomb Raider. Why did the park have to bring back a old film to the pictorium or a old simulator ride??? It had to be too save money rather than creating a new experience for their guests!

Yeah Cream Puffs, that's it! When I went there in 2000, I just about got knocked over by a stampedee making a mad dash for them. I didnt even get a chance to get one cause the line was like and hour long (conversely, you could have walked on the Top Scan...)

And I'll say this for SSA (Space Shuttle America) they should have never taken it out for Escape From Dino Island 3-D. I, for one, never bought that "Space Shuttle as a time machine" bit. Plus, dont all sim theaters recycle movies?

Besides, if we were really shutting down people we disagreed with, would Jeremy (2Hostyl) still be around? :) I think not. - Jeff 1/24/02

Blackhawks? Blackhawks?!? C'mon, They are over priced and underperforming. If you like hockey that is played well, and want to see a game with your family at a price and at great seats that you don't need to take a 2nd mortgage on your house, go see the Wolves...

As far as why they went back to SPaceShuttleAmerica and an old IMAX? Who knows...maybe you're right and it is a way to save money -- and we'll get a new ride out of it next year [fingers crossed]

This is too easy. Although this is way off topic but it seems that some our members have delusions of grandeur. I dunno where in NY you ate, but NY Pizza is world renowned. We started it on the western hemisphere and then other lil towns followed suit. LOL...by the way, The Yankees can kick both the cubs and sox's behind :)

You're so contagious, you turn ma pages!

Being the first to do something doesn't always mean it's the best.

Look at just this one example among many. The Wright brother's plane..yep, they were the first, but hey...would YOU want to take a flight in that to Europe? Nope...

Same goes for what New Yorkers call pizza...It is the current iteration of the original invention. Chicago, the new home of Boeing, refined that invention and made it better (a LOT better) ;)

Yeah, it is real easy to win when you "buy" all of your World Series trophies and dont win them fair and square. BTW how did this topic about Great America rides turn into a pizza fight and an argument between Chicago and New York?

Iron Wolf has gotten a lot better with the new padding.

As for Chicago Sports... Sox and... DA BEARS! Look at the ball the Sox are playing this year. The only reason people like the Cubs better is because of the "not so friendly confines". (Wrigley) If the Sox played there the masses would love 'em.

R.I.P Megadeth. 20 Years of Metal will not be forgotten.

Last year i thought Iron Wolf was better than it has been in years and had no head banging problems. but havent rode it yet this year!!!

2hostyl i would agree about the time machine aspect, but the ride should be replaced, the orignal one was lame and will again be lame. Why cant they use the shuttle to creat a new ride rather than giving us the old one!! People in Wis.c put a high premium on their Cream Puffs and last year even started a drive thru to get them!!
