New road signs replacing old purple signs around Walt Disney World

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

The final vestiges of a once iconic wayfinding system are now being replaced. The purple roadway signs used to direct vehicular traffic around the resort have begun being swapped out with new blue-based signage. Like the purple before it, the blue aesthetic can be seen on signage throughout the resort.

Read more from Orlando Weekly. WKMG has a photo of the new signs.

Someone tell my 11-year-old that Mickey & Minnie isn't a great Disney experience or about the travesty of not changing the Chinese Theater facade. Because he's obsessed with that ride and loves it.

As someone who loves the new generation Mickey shorts, I think the ride is brilliant.

I too loved my one ride on it. As for the building, didn't effect me one bit, and I stood outside of it for almost an hour while it broke down and social distanced lines were mostly outside.

If I thought about it at all, I probably thought something like "Oh yeah, this is that famous theater in Hollywood, and this is Disney Hollywood Studios."

Right? Like, what were they gonna do, change the park icon and cover it in animation cells?

...and given that the conceit of the pre-show is that you are there to watch the world premiere of the new short, it seems perfectly fine.

How about a big, ugly hat?

I am sure there’s a petition to bring back the hat out there somewhere…

Wait a minute, I thought in DHS the incongruous exteriors and interiors were originally the rule, rather than the exception. The park looks like a film studio, or like various other famous locales, or like parts of Universal Studios Hollywood...but when you enter a building the interior is its own world.

Granted that is more true of the Universal Studios parks than it is at Disney Studios or whatever it is called now, but I seem to recall there often being little relationship between the exterior and the attraction inside. Or am I misremembering because I haven't been there in a decade or more?

It’s a completely different park now. It still has the California theme but most of it has been converted to themed experiences, the two biggest being Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land.

That's crazy. All of those trees in the background are now the solar farm next to Epcot.

I think those cars in the back finally made it through the Champions Gate last night.

Speaking of signs...

Driving down I4 yesterday and there was an FDOT crew installing a rather large new sign as you cross Reedy Creek that says "Central Florida Tourism Oversight District". Then later I saw the same sign as you pass by the Western Way exit on 429. I am so glad the government is using money to make sure all roads are marked so you know you are entering the district while you drive by at 80mph. What a waste.
