New park to be built near Omaha

Posted | Contributed by StarCoasters

80-Acre park will be built in Council Bluffs, Iowa (near Omaha) and will include one coaster. The coaster will be designed for the park and include elements of "the top coaster."

Neat, now there is a good reason to travel to Husker Land!

(snicker) Hmmmm...."the top coaster." Wonder which one they're referring to?
How do they expext to build a brand new theme park between the time they harvest the crops and Memorial Day 2003?

SiX FlAgS FiEsTa TeXaS was great!

The top coaster is either MF at CP or SROS at SFDL. Could we be getting another intamin Giga or another clone of SROS.

-----------------

Maybe it's a new "top" coaster that spins like a top as you travel the tracks! ;)

He let the contents of the bottle do the thinking; can't shake the devil's hand and say you're only kidding.

The construction schedule is certainly agressive, but not impossible for a Phase 1 small park provided that they have their permits and financing already lined up and are proceeding with design right now. (I don't know anything about their permitting or finances.) The other real trick will be to get the foundations and underground utilities in before the ground freezes. If they don't do that they will never make it.

If I were them I would try to purchase more land for a buffer zone. When you're in the amusement park business, the farther away your neighbors are. the less trouble you will have.

Now lets look at this thing seriously.

A) How much are they planning to spend?
The money they spend now is going to be what they need to recoupe quickly

B) What is the population in that area? (remember a park like this will be supported by the local population)

C) What will their essential marketing key be like? You need more than just rides and shows to keep filling gates (Picnics and catering)

D) How easially accessable is the area?

E) What kind of reputation does this company have already and have they defulted finacially?

I just don't want this to become another Jazzland or Visionland where they spend to much and can't afford to pay for it because they cant fill the gates enough. Know what Im saying?

Anybody know how far this is from Denver???

Anyways, this is good for Omaha. Matthayman, I don't know if were joking or not, but there is no way they are getting a clone of MF or S:RoS. I believe MF was $25 million and I am sure S.RoS was somewhere from 15 to 20 million. No park that is just opening can afford that.

Who said the top coaster had to be steel???

Wonder if it's going to be Steel or Wood...................

-----------------
“If you give a enthusiast a footer.......He’ll want a coaster!!!"
-------------------------

Maybe something like Cliff's Amusement Park is getting with steel supports but wood track. I think that is what they are getting anyway. Eitherway, they probably don't have too big of a budget and it will be hard to build the best roller coaster in the world with that.

Possible info about the parks coasters:

If you click on the link at the bottom of the first story, you can read an article that was posted on Feb 14th. In it, is the following

Papa's Park is considering a wooden racing roller coaster, which would have two trains race against each other on separate tracks. The company would also want a steel roller coaster in which the riders are suspended underneath the cars. A third roller coaster would combine the elements of a steel ride with lots of water.

Not sure if things have changed or not since February, but it sounds like they want to build a coaster like Lighting Racer at Hershey, some kind of Batman/Raptor Clone, and a clone of ripsaw falls.

Here's the link to the story that had this information in it:

john peck here are the answers to your questions

a. In Febuary they said they had secured $50 mill so they might have more by now.

b. There are tons of people near by, about 1 million within an hours drive.

c. I don't know that answer to that one.

d. The area is very accessible just take one of the busiest streets in town across the river and your there. Its also right by lake Maniwa (about the only thing to do in Council Bluffs)

e. I think the company has a good reputation. They are the ones who fixed up Kentucky Kingdom before it was sold to Six Flags . They also run Magic Springs. I think this is the firs park they have built from the ground up.

I think the park will do very well
Expect to see me as a ride opp :)

Yes! I live in Iowa and this will be my home park!!!!!!!!! I am so happy.
These days, with current advertisements, a Top Coaster is probably a wooden coaster with a unique layout. doubtful if it was really anyhting big.
I pictured an Intamin Hyper from the article. Just my way of thinking but a large expensive steel coaster would bring in the GP better than a wooden one. *** This post was edited by Nasty_Nate24 on 6/6/2002. ***
WHEN IS ARIZONA GETTING ONE. It is one of the most populated states with out an amusement park. THat is awsome for Nebraska though.

The aforementioned "suspended" isn't very specific, but I know a company that has done several and would really benefit from some work right now! As for the steel/water combo, can you say Setpoint? I knew you could!
