New members: WATCH AND LEARN

Jeff's avatar
It seems once again time to drop in a few lines to our new members regarding the expectations around here.

First of all, read our FAQ two or three times. No, seriously, you need to read this:
http://www.coasterbuzz.com/forums/faq.asp

Pay particular attention to the bit about using real live words. No "u r kewl" type of posts will stick around.

Also note the part about unacceptable topics. Of particular concern is the stuff about most/best/worst topics, vs. topics, and the endless speculation threads.

Most of all, don't post to hear yourself post. The number of times you post can and will be limited with the next version of the forums, but that's not something we really want to do. Stop and LISTEN for awhile and get to know what the conversation around here is supposed to be like.

Please use the search at the bottom of each page. It works wonders if you're just looking to get your questions answered.

Beyond that, if you have a question that someone else could answer by searching, either this site or the Internet in general, DO IT YOURSELF. Don't be lazy.

The CoasterBuzz forums are moderated because we don't want visitors to drop by and find endless noise. You can help by playing by the rules outlined in the FAQ.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Capitalization, punctuation, spacing, etc.

It's just a little easier on everybody's eyes when it's all in proper English. Thanks for putting forth the effort, though! That's a lot more than some people are willing to do!

Good work, Jeff! I think limiting the number of new threads a user can start would be great. Typos, grammar errors, etc. I'm fine with (within reason of course), but I am a late night surfer and there seems to be more "chatter" at that time...Forgot to add, I LOVE the edit feature.

Wait so there will be a limit to home much we can post. Is that Post new topics or post messages under topics. If its post messages under topics, that won't be very fun. But You got to do what you got to do

You are the Weakest Link, Goodbye.
I don't think it's fair to limit the number of posts in a topic. It totally destroys the meaning of a topic in my opinion.

Stealth, it does not "totally destroy" the meaning of the topic. It is nothing more than proof this is not a democracy, but a dictatorship (not a bad thing, Jeff, it is very good, democracies get nowhere, look at the US government!)
By limiting the number of posts, it will do a number of good things to this board. I personally enjoy small topics (less than 20 replies) more than large ones. Another thing it does is stop so many new "Which is best" topics, which are almost always started by new members, and quite frankly, those topics are annoying.
I have one sugestion for everyone, if you don't like the post-limits, I would not recommend leaving at all, you can get around it! Just limit the time you spend here to less than 20 minutes, and you won't have time to post past the limit! That is what I am planning on doing, and I need to with school starting in 2 weeks. It's that time of year for me where coasters are less important, and school takes priority... :(

I think the post limit idea is pretty fair. It just ruins the whole point of posts when the person who starts the topic decides to post random nonsense just to get their topic out there. If it's not buzzworthy, don't make it something it's not.
Now Jeff's grass for instance, is a wonderful example of the kind of quality material at coasterbuzz. ;)

I wasn't even talking about spelling (despite the fact that there's a free spell check utility). Things like not capitalizing your I's end up being an eyesore.

TrBiggar -
I said IN MY OPINION. That doesn't mean everyone or you, but just my personal though. That's all.

But what if there is an issue that you are really into. I have seens some that turn into debates (not bad ones) and if there is a limit to how much someone can post, they won't be able to respond as much. I like spending time here, I like the site. Limiting posting will however make me come here less. Can you imagin having something you want to speak on and not being able to, thats no fun.

My thoughts exactly Jephry.

Don't take what I said out of context. I didn't say there would be a quota for everyone, only people who are noisy. If you don't start a dozen threads a day and litter the forums with "me too" posts, you have nothing to worry about.
