New HersheyPark Coaster for 2004

I also the article in the local paper this morning-and it made my day!

I live 30 minutes from Hershey and hardly ever go there!

I'd rather go to Dorney/SFGA/SFA/CP etc!

I get a Dorney pass every year-But hardly ever get an HP pass!(maybe 2004?)

I'm just wondering, if it is a coaster, why not go for the tallest one in PA?

Did somebody say B&M??? ;)

Tease Alert!

*Something* wicked this way comes...to the west coast in 2004!

Rob Barr, because Hershey is a family park. They cant have that big of a ride and they probably dont have room for the tallest ride in PA.

Although offtopic, are Cleveland.com and PennLive.com run by the same people? The headers on each pages are exactly the same... Back on topic, I would love a new coaster at Hershey no matter what the style or "brand", I'm all for a new coaster in Pennsylvania. Good thing I am heading out to Hershey next year..:)

If it's an XLC I bet it will be purple.

Why is that?

I don't see the statements listed in this post tell us anything.

"Max height 195 ft"

There are many coasters that tall not just rocket coasters.

"Elevated ride up on columns for much of it"

That describes every steel coaster that I've seen built in the last ten years.

"There is a crest in the ride."

A rollercoaster wouldn't do much coasting if it didn't have a crest in the ride.

"Runs thousands of feet in a large loop. "

Well we know it won't be a shuttle.

"Crosses the Dry Gulch railroad in 2 places."

That doesn't say anything about who designed it or what it will be like.

"Comes close to the Kissing tower."

I don't know who said it goes around the Kissing tower, but this doesn't say that.

I'll wait for the official announcement or at least a track sighting before I begin to speculate.

I think that a B&M hyper or "junior hyper" would be to expensive for Hershey and IMO a rocket coaster would also fall into that catagory of being expensive. So I think anyone could rule those possibilities out.

Swoosh -- none of the articles available on their website were dated for Saturday.

Did you go to the actual Patriot-News page? I went to PennLive.COM which has the papers for that area and there were articles for the 12th on their - however there was not one about about HersheyPark filing for a building permit.

Maybe they'll wait till the dead middle of winter like another park just did and make the announcement.

Yes, I did. I suppose they added the articles to the site over the course of yesterday. Still, I'm unable to find anything about Hersheypark in yesterday's paper. Oh, well.

3 years with librarians taught me how to find everything. It didn't teach me how to make it up when it doesn't yet exist.

Coastopher boldly replied:

"i believe it is B&M hyper or intamin hyper or rocket, or SLC launch coaster."

SLC launch coaster? That just sounds painful... ;)

I meant an intamin SLC that launches, like volcano TBC.

Well i think hershey park can afford a hyper coaster, that have a B&M already.

I cant believe that there was an article until i see it or until a coaster comes out with those specs at the park.

Do you have a scanner or anything or way you can show it to us?

So what if Hershey has a B&M already, the question isn't what it has, the question is if Hershey can afford a 20 million ++ B&M hyper coaster, which I doubt. Didn;t the Hershey company face financial troubles this year, or did that not affect the park because they are a seperate company?
no, that was the Hershey Foods company that had money troubles. Hershepark is owned by the Hershey Entertainment Co.
Coastopher, saying slc launch coaster is just like saying "Queue Line" or "ATM Machine" or "PIN Number." ;)

If it is an Intamin Hyper, I will personally beat every Hersheypark Employee senseless with a stick. B&M Is much better than Intamin, especially their hypers..

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!! That's the best joke I've heard all day!

Nate, you may laugh, and the original post may have been a bit overreaching, but if you've ever been to HersheyPark, I think you'd tend to agree that a B&M would be much better for their crowd than an Intamin Rocket. The *only* reason I could concieve for not getting a B&M hyper is the possible comparions with NITRO. But I personally think that NITRO is a coaster perfectly suited to HP.

And as for the price argument, let's not forget that they *do* have a B&M already and with the way Great Bear is shoe-horned in, I doubt construction costs were cheap. Moreover, those M-Flyer trains that came with Lightning Racer weren't found in the discount bin. :)

If the lift height is 195ft. The drop height will be higher than that because of the terrain of the park itself. I'd say the 1st drop will at least be in the 210 ft range. It's definately going to be a hyper. Just the manufacturer is the mystery.

I am pretty sure that it will be a B&M. They were at the park last season surveying that area of the park. I had talked to one of them, and created a post about it last season. Everyone had acted like I was creating a rumor, but I know that they were there. Whether someone else won the bid over them remains to be seen. I am going with them though. In August we'll know for sure.

If you have been to the park recently you should have noticed all the markings on the ground throughout the park. You can pretty much tell the rides layout. I'd say the length will be about average. Some where around 5,500 ft. Looking at the markings it does seem as if it will be a pretty decent ride. I know the station will be around midway america and pioneer frontier, but the exact location remains a mystery to me. The 1st drop will be in the area of the trailblazer which leads me to believe that the drop height will be in the 210-220 ft range given the change in elevation from the lift area to where the bottom of the 1st drop will be.

Given the area that the coaster will be in I am guessing that it will be a pretty exciting layout. I have been looking forward to a hyper at Hershey for several seasons. Finally its going to happen.

Hmm. You started a post about it last season? You just joined in April, dude. You must have a short park season. ;) I'm going to laugh hysterically in case you're wrong by the way...

Aren't there a bunch of homes back behind the park? I recall waving at some folks while waiting for Roller Soaker last season.

These people were a-okay with the park building an enormous coaster in their front yard? Wow.

Normally people in Central PA are nice folk. Its just the ones out east (Dorney) that are mean... ;)
