And maybe the expansion can put some of the things back that seem to be missing, like being able to adjust land by making hills all at once (you can do it in the scenereo editor, but apparently not the game itself?), and adding new long-overdue things like being able to flatten land to the same level (like SimCity has!). Also being able to run the game in a window...
I can think of a dozen flat-rides, easily, that are missing and should be added. From a wave-swinger to a first generation free-fall ("Demon Drop") to a "Himalaya" type ride.
And I still want to see diagonal fences.

I know a lot of people have been complaining about graphics, lack of 3D, yadda yadda yadda in terms of RCT II, and up until now, I was perfectly happy with the similar graphics, feel etc. But this...
The thing I was looking forward to most, in terms of RCT II, was the new selection of flat rides. I was sure we would get a bunch this time around, or at least a few (like in the expansion packs). But two, and rather lackluster ones at that... My interest in this game suddenly took a major turn for the worse. Don't get me wrong, the new scenery options alone will convince me to buy it, but this is quite a disappointment. Oh, and here's another one... Why are their a ton of new stalls, but still no picnic tables or tables/chairs? I mean, EVERY park has those (?!)
I know a lot of the Chris Sawyer backers will come back with "in that interview he said flat rides take longer to make" but that's not a good enough excuse. I'm excited that this game is coming out this week, but I can't help but feel that it was rushed. Considering that Corkscrew Follies came out a mere eight months after the original RCT, I wouldn't doubt that an expansion is on the way (Flat Ride Fiesta anyone??), all I know is that I was expecting at least a little more from the long awaited sequel.
What I'd love to see is Chris Sawyer team up with Maxis (I mean the SimCity crew, not the Bullfrog people responsible for the awful SimTheme Park). Just looking at all the little things in SimCity 4 like buildings that weather over time, day/night cycle, rewards for hitting certain milestones, the realistic looking landscapes, the great terrain shaping options... that's the point I would hope RCT would get to one day. I know I'm about to get flamed about "Chris only has a small group of developers." Which brings up an interesting question - Why is that? The first game and its expansions made a boatload of money. You'd think somebody would be beefing up their staff. If anyone has any info on this, I'd be curious to hear more

I honestly don't care which flat rides are in the game. As long as I can install a dozen of them, they can be anything as long as the peeps pay their money.

Maybe that's what the expansion pack will be called. RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 : Flat-Ride Fiesta! lol.
Possibly Sawyer could realease new flat rides thru the web site which we could download and install into our games Zoo Tycoon does this with animals not in the original He could even charge for them I know I'd pay It's a better idea than GIANT GEARS for theming .
Also as for those new stalls and the outrageous things he came up with for them to sell , why didn't he just make some of them skill game stalls? It's better than Wonton Soup stall or Beef Noodle Stall
Question , crazyuscoasters.com has a screen shot of the tea cup ride with the snowman on top and they are calling it snow cups is this the only way you get the ride "with the snow man"

There's so many variances in RCT2 on the flat rides though, that they're is a bunch of new flats. The Submarine Ride (Think of the old DisneyWorld ride), MegaTrucks (Convoy on 'roids), and Trams are just a few of the new things put into that game.
If you really think about flats their just variations in terms of ride vehicles where the course/program is slightly different, and that's what RCT2 does here.

Top 5 Steel: #1 Millenium Force #2 Phantom's Revenge #3 Ice Dragon #4 Incredible Hulk #5 Wild Thing
Top 5 Wood #1 Viper #2 Thunderbolt #3 Timberwolf #4 Outlaw #5 Screaming Eagle
Submarine ride, car rides, dark rides, those are all well and good but they're really transport type rides. We wanted more spin 'n pukes because they're pretty and are in just about every freaking real park.
I was also expecting more flats. Especially sense Great Adventure was one of the parks in the game. I am looking forward to an expansion pack to be released before I get the game.
On the other hand, if all of those flats were to have been included included in RCT2, their wouldn't have been anything to put in an expansion pack.
I miss the flats too. It'd be nice if Infrogrames could partner up with Huss and license all of their flats for an expansion. Have your very own Land of the Giants.
But also give us a full circuit Intamin invert, more options for the TA2K, and maybe an Arrowbatic....?
But an all flat expansion with games booths would be a-ok with me.

Agreed. However you (and I) are the minority it seems. We're the few who actually enjoy playing the game. Most owners of RCT just want a sandbox mode, no money worries, no challenge, just to create. That was the main oversight with the original game and it's been totally fixed in the sequel. I think Chris Sawyer originally intended it to be more of a sim (resource managment). I'm not big on designing parks "just for fun" and I have no interest at all in recreations - I'd rather just go to the actual park. I find the scenarios to be plenty of fun. Lack of new flat rides doesn't change my outlook one bit.

Good, then two of us get it. When you read the reviews on gaming sites, they basically feel the same way. They're positive that it's a good sim and leave it at that. But then again, enthusiast cry babies never get what they really want at their local real-life park, and not having the control here either must really burn their ass.
I swear some people have spent more time complaining here than enjoying the game. There are little things perhaps we'd all like, but they're not show stoppers.

You can build the double deck observation tower to 600 feet now. I like how it's more challenging, you actually have different things to do for the scenerio, like in one you have to sell a certain amount of merchandise. It's not just build and expand anymore, although there are plenty of scenerios that still have you do that. Different coaster cars raise and lower certain aspects of the ride as well, like backwards PTC trains give it a +15 or so nausea rating, but the excitment goes up as well. There are a lot more options and I am addicted once again!
