New Entries in the CoasterBuzz Top 100

Of the rides mentioned, I wouldn't say the neg g's are too much for me, it's just that the lap bar required because of said neg g's are too much for me. Skyrush may be the exception where both are too much for me.

I like El Toro a lot, for example, but I'd much rather be on something with lots of air time that can still handle PTC grab bars or buzz bars or GCI restraints or whatever. Or those frankenstein things on Phantom's Revenge.

Phantom's Revenge has one of the best restraints ever, IMO, and I'm surprised more train manufacturers haven't taken notice and tried something similar.
I'm with you, matt. about the buzz bars. Few and far between anymore, arent they? I wouldn't mind the newer orange thing so much if it weren't for that annoying jog in it that hits the side of my leg and makes me sit kind of crooked.

The only instance where I can think of "too extreme neg g-force" would be the fabled test run(s) on Xcelerator at 120mph. If I recall correctly, the ride at that speed would have peaked at somewhere around -4.2g. That would be beyond tolerances regardless of restraint system. Seems ridiculous to even mention it, but "too forceful" means WAY beyond the bounds of good business practice.

Now, on Skyrush, I would say that the forces were excessive for the restraints originally installed on the ride.

As I was reading through the later part of the topic, Skyrush was on my mind, even before Gator mentioned it. I'll say it again here... When I ride it, I feel like my femurs are going to snap in half. Even though I do think the restraints are to blame, the airtime on that ride feels like it could be too intense. Every time I would approach a moment of airtime, I would feel a sense of dread, and not excitement.

Toro was like that for me. The restraints hurt. A lot. All that wonderful airtime ended up just being painful because of the restraint design. Take that away, and it would have been flat out amazing.

Am I the only one who remembers Thrust Air at Dominion? That piece of crap just wrecked my legs for days.

I remember H:XLC as having fluffier padding...but I'm probably thinking of the weird headrests. The airtime at the top of that short hill was pretty 'X'treme. ;~P

It's immensely gratifying to see El Toro overtake The Voyage. The fact that The Voyage had been consistently ranked above El Toro - and won the Golden Ticket award for #1 woodie for 5 consecutive years - is something that really annoyed me. It was great to see Toro win the Golden Ticket award for #1 last year; so this year it's Boulder Dash, and I'm OK with that, because BD was the surprise of the year for me (finally got to ride it in July.) Never got the chance to ride Intimidator and always wondered why it was ranked higher than Intimidator 305, #3 on my personal top ten list. Someone suggested that it's because some people have trouble dealing with the G forces on I-305 - grey outs or whatever - whereas these issues apparently don't apply to Intimidator at Carowinds.

I loved hypersonic. I rode the year befor they took it out. It's in my top 10.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

I never understood all the hate for that ride. I thought it was the smoothest launch coaster I ever rode. I only rode it about 7 or 8 times, but I think about it and miss it everytime I go to KD. It's also the first ride on which I ever witnessed a rollback.

It was plenty smooth, but it went over the top so fast that pressure on my thighs was insane. It hurt like hell. I actually had bruises.

Count me in with the crowd that hated XLC. I don't remember the restraints being as bad as Toro (possibly because it was just a one trick pony) but they still sucked. And the launch was just uncomfortable.

Interesting. I loved H:XLC (aside from the downtime and horrible capacity). The launch was incredible and the top hat was one of the most extreme moments of air anywhere. Sadly, that was about 4 seconds of great coasting for well over and hour of waiting (the 3 times I rode it).

This week, the top 10 just keeps doing their dances.

Bizarro slides up to #3 knocking Boulder Dash back to #4.

Behemoth & Phoenix each move up a spot (#7 & #8) forcing Thunderhead back two spots from #7 to #9.

Just outside the top 10, Maverick and Diamondback do the same thing as they move up to #11 & #12 while pushing Prowler back two spots to #13

Other than that, still a lot of movement on the list, but no one moved more than 2 or 3 positions other then this week's big loser, Verbolten, which drops from #48 to #57 in a 9 position slide.

So, I've been wondering...are the increasingly drastic changes to the top 100 a byproduct of this thread?

If you mean in the sense of people trying to 'play' the system, I don't think so.

If you mean in the sense of increased awareness and, in turn, more votes, then maybe.

Or perhaps it did this all along and no one was really paying attention before?

I don't mean in either sense in particular, really. Just curious. I rarely check the list to be honest. Your weekly updates give me more information than I even care about. :)

I have mixed memories of HS:XLC. The launch was amazing and the thrill of rushing over the top of the hill was great. Sadly after that it was horrible... Just a rough, uncomfortable, thankfully brief experience. I must not have hated it too much because I rode every time I visited the park as a pass holder during its life span though... Or I should say every time it was operating.

Biggest item of note for the week of October 7, 2013:

Five coasters are currently tied for 61st.

Other than that, not a whole lot beyond the normal dancing that takes place. No big movers, nothing happing at the top of the list, no new entries.
