Typically the park doesn't announce what they are doing until it becomes obvious. If they are making the announcement in August, they'll probably be starting construction pretty soon. So, in addition to the quote I mentioned, which of those rides would cause CP to make an announcement so early.

Boy, everyone's faces are going to be red when those markers turn out to be nothing, and they re-open the Pirate Ride on the other side of the peninsula. :)
Who was it that recently came up with the new Whip design? I remember seeing some layout or mockup of a ride that could be designed into complex systems of multiple turns. Something like that would be fun -- though again, not sure if the word 'thrilling' is applicable.

One of the additions to the new Carsland at Disney California Adventure is an update of the Whip called Mater's Junkyard Jamboree. It will feature Whip-like vehicles that do figure-eights and "do-si-do" around each other.

The ride seen on the video isn't an updated whip. Rather, it's an updated Cuddle-Up.
Cuddle-Ups (or at least ones I've seen) tend to have tea cup-style spinning vehicles whereas Junkyard Jamboree is going to use pivoting "trailers" like a Whip, so it's sort of an updated combination of the two rides.

It could also be that they're trying to keep positive news flowing amid the troubled launch of Shoot the Rapids...
I love the new hint. So...
thrill ride + something from CP history =
World's tallest sky slide!
Triple sky wheel!
Huss Giant Rotor!
or maybe a beach Wild Mouse.
You guys are missing the obvious answer. They're just putting Demon Drop back in its old spot and marketing as a new ride for 2011.
I call Cedar Point my home park even though I live in the Chicago Suburbs.
I'm going with a wooden coaster over there called the Cyclone. I've always wanted a pre-fab wooden roller coaster in that end of the park!

It's going to bring back a lot of memories for people that follow Cedar Point.
Ooh ooh, I know! They're going to open a water ride called Shoot the Rapids!
The name hearkens back to an old ride from 2-aught-10. But unlike its older namesake, it will operate for more than 60 minutes at a stretch... even on weekends. :)
It is to be a new ride called Windseeker. A 30-story swing wide with the swings traveling around at about 25 to 30 mph. It will replace Ocean Motion which will be disassembled and sold at the end of the 2010 season.
Windseeker is scheduled to open in 2011.
So no new pavers. Sorry.
I hate spoilers...thanks for ruining the surprise for me.
