I hate when sites force you to the mobile version when you're on your phone.
This is one of the reasons I like a responsive approach to website design, letting the CSS do the work. Design the website to adapt to screen size instead of device. Then, with that in mind, if I develop for the small screen before larger screens, it helps me focus on what content is most important, which makes for a better overall experience.

I prefer that approach if it's something that has a lot of long-form reading content. I don't like it as much when you have to do a lot of navigating around, as you do on a forum. I'm not sure that there's any more or less work to either approach, though responsive design is a little harder because you need to match the same markup to a lot of CSS.

Is anyone else getting a 500 error on the mobile site right now?

Yeah. I thought it was just me, but I was having this problem this morning. However, I just switched over to the desktop version, as that seems to be functioning.
Whoops! I deployed some changes last night and it looks like one particularly broken file didn't transfer. My bad. Checking mobile isn't yet in my QA list. Although it does raise another flag, because the error wasn't being logged. Regardless, you should be good now.
