New coaster game headed for Dreamcast console

Posted | Contributed by Shady Z

Although the graphics are a little substandard, it does allow you to create twists and turns that RCT won't. As long as true physics allow it, you should be able to build it.

Check out the preview at the IGN Dreamcast site.

I don't know, it looks way to much like Disney's old game Coaster. The track is a little rough, and the graphics are a little less than impressive.
I can see I'm going to have to buy a Dreamcast now. Oh well, PS2 will be tough to get for a while anyway. Anyone hear of the intended release date? Quarter 4 of 2000 is a bit vague for me.
Sega is basically dead. They are no longer producing much of anything, really. That's why I'm so surprised that this game is being released on a platform that is virtually dead in the water.
Maybe they'll put it out for PS2 sometime.

Sega dead you say? I think not. Does PS2 have on-line play? No. Are their games leaps and bounds ahead of DC? No. Are there enough consoles for PS2? No. Do they charge a lot for their system? Yes.

Don't count out Sega yet is all I'm saying. Jet Coaster Dreams 2 is coming out in Japan next month and could make it over here as well.

Oh man, this is only for Dreamcast. It looked good to.
Hmmmm....Will PS2 have online play...yes(it will take a year just like dreamcast did) does it have a DVD player? yes are the games better than dreamcast? yes...SEGA IS DEAD. Shady, not to start an argument, but you have I what I had when I didnt have the original playstation, just a N64. I panned on playstation just because i didnt have it, I had the crappy nintendo 64, then I got playstation and was amazed. The same goes for you, you are just making PS2 look bad because you have the crappy Dreamcast and dont have PS2...believe me, lots of people do this.

Well on the main topic the graphics do look a little rough on the coaster game but the game should be fun. You can ride the coaster from the front row too. By the way Sega is not dead at all. YOU ASSUME WAY TO MUCH!!!!! . Look at what the Dreamcast has new: Tony Hawk 2, Shenmue, Jet Grind Raido, Quake 3 Arena, Half Life, Samba De Amigo, NFL2K1, and that little thing called online play. Lets think here what does PS2 have, hmmmm well so far the only games that are any good are SSX Snowboarding and Madden (NFLK1 is better than Madden anyway). O yeah buy the way what does the PS2 have coming out in the future??? Nothing except GT3 and Metal Gear 2 and the last time I checked two games didn't make a system. I have played many PS2 games if your wondering; Madden, SSX, Kessen, Silent Scope, Time Splitters.
Since when did we all talk about whether Sega is dead or not? I thought the buzz was about the roller coaster game. Anywayz, I think the graphics should look better, considering the fact that it's on Dreamcast. But RCT, AA/CF, and LL are all better.

One more thing, just to clear up any confusion, Sega is not dead.
Hmmm....Tony Hawk 2 was already given a perfect score in EGM by reviewers for Playstation, so obviously the dreamcast version is irrelevant, hmm good games for PS2: Kessen, Madden, Tekken Tag, Summoner, Unreal Tournament, Dynasty warriors 2 for example. Not to mention all Sega sales will go down very quickly because of that little game called Final Fantasy 9 coming out for Playstation ONE. Hmm... how long did it take Dreamcast to get online play...one year people! How long is it gonna take PS2 to get online, 1 year people! Sega rushes things, just look at what happened to Saturn. Hate to blow up all you Sega fans, but Sega is dead. Playstation 1 does better than Dreamcast.

I'll admit the game looks ugly, but Dreamcast dead? Do you even have one? Have you read even a line of what the gaming press thinks? Which system shipped with a modem from day one? Which system can I play football and Quake against right this moment? Last I checked Dreamcast has the largest market share right now, and that's likely to continue through the holiday season.

Let me know when PS2 has the established library of quality titles in place and I'll run right out and buy one.

They're video games, folks, not religion. I've owned every system since the SNES and found strengths in each. If I was to buy one for my kid today (if I actually had a kid), there's only one that has the titles and the price point to make sense for Christmas, not to mention long-term commitment from third-party developers.

I saw the add for this game in one of my friends Dreamcast brochures it looks like RCT but the turns are pointed and jagged basically they make the tracks look very unsmooth. As for as PS2 goes i think madden is way better then NFL2K by a long shot so does my friend who owns the Dreamcast. I think PS2 has way better graphics and better games i mean Dreamcast was cool for a while but it was a bomb now everyone wants PS2 and its going to be like playstation but better. So for all the people saying that Dreamcast is better then why do the stats and the players and testers prove otherwise. PS2 kicks*****cant wait for them to make some kind of rollercoaster design game for the system.

To the comment on PS2 being too expensive; look at what you are getting. Not to mention the fact that Sony is taking a $100 loss for every PS2 sold. I dont believe the Dreamcast is dead, but the power of PS2 is far above that of the Dreamcast. Give it time.
The Dreamcast isn't dead because of what the PS2 has coming in the future. From this point in time the DC is way better than PS2. It has online a ton of sweet games and more coming. Now if you wait a year PS2 will probobaly be better considering it will have online play and more games, but from what it seems the only good games coming out for PS2 in the near future are GT3 and Metal Gear 2. By the way has anyone saying the DC is dead played Samba De Amigo, Jet Grind Radio or Shenmue. Samba De Amigo is probobaly the funnest game out right now. You can even read the reviews on all those at dreamcast.ign.com if you dont believe me.

Yes, but PS2 is backwards-compatible with PS1 games, so really, if you think about it, PS2 already HAS a full library of games available for it.
Either way, I think that the coaster game should be available for every system. I'm not gonna buy a Dreamcast just for the one game, but if it came out for PS1 or PS2, I would buy it, because we are going to upgrade to PS2 when our PS1 finally dies, which looks like any day now. :(

True that Dreamcast has had a modem in it since the day it shipped, but it still took a year to get online play running! And did Dreamcast ship with a excellent DVD player built into it...dont think so!

:-) I can remember my father shelling out 299.00 for a brand new INTELLIVISON. I forget I saw it on a game site but that would be around 650.00 or so today.
Not to get away from the coaster subject, but in response to kOrN, I currently own pretty much all the systems (Nintendo, Sega, and PS). I agree that it could look a little bit better on DC considering, but look at how Theme Park World came out on PS. The graphics were pretty bad. Now if they could do RCT on PS2 or DC(or a better version of it). Don't get me wrong, I think PS2 has some astounding graphics, but it's all rehashes of what we've seen before (Tekken, Ridge Racer, Madden, etc). Also, I already own a good DVD player, so what do I need with another one (besides, you have to buy the remote control extra).

I think Sega are anything from dead, I mean they create some of the finest arcade games ever seen, and as the DC has as much power as one of these arcade machines we are getting arcade perfect games for example Crazy Taxi, Virtual Tennis, Virtual Soccer 2k and they even make the effort to have added mini-games and such forth things, makin the games have a greater playability. Now christmas is approaching and the PS2 is about to be launched, Sega are releasing some tremendous games, I mean look at Metropolitan Street Racer, Shenmue, Ultimate Fighting Champion. As for PS2 DVD player it is v. poor, the playback quality is incredibly grainy, you could pick up a better one for £150($190) at your local store, and now in the UK there is package to buy a DC and DVD for £200. Also i would just like to add that i dont buy a console to watch movies on, I buy a console to play top quality games on, and not sequals, prequals that just lack originality, name me one game that Sega have made 9 games out of, or 4 games out of (I believe that Sonic cnnot be includid in this as all of the Sonic games have been totally different games, each time offering a different approach to how you play.) My oppinion is that Sony are complete sellouts, what is PSONE all about ? Do they really think we're that stupid, so can make their quick last penny out of the old PS. My general oppinion is that Sony suck so much C**K .In the end the customers are going to be the ones who gain out of this, so i suppose i cant really complain. *** This post was edited by Paul on 11/11/2000. ***
Sorry to say this but if you ever read any business and VARBusiness magazines, in direct interviews with the CEO of Sega, they've taken such large loss amounts in the past decade over their "plop" prodjects (such as Sega CD) that they are discontinueing developing of further consoles unless working in a co-operation with another major supporter. Sega, like others (3DO, Panasonic) always make the mistake of coming out "first" with something, then the two big boys (Sony, Nintendo) come along and blow the hell out of the first sucker, happens all the time, but i guess somebody's got to be first. But as far as Sega goes, they say arcade games are still their major money maker, but console developement for Sega is called "Quits" , Sorry to bring this to the idiots that paid 700 dollars on ebay for a Dreamcast, Sorry. Look how well the Saturn did.?? Look how well Sega 32X went? And of course the BIG plop of them all Sega CD. Too many new platforms from the same company in TOOOO little time.. Playstation has been on the market for at least 4 years before a major platform change, and their even backwards compatable. Nintendo 64 has been around for a while as well, Sega on the other hand releases a system almost every other year if not 1-1/2. Sorry, I'm sure i've pissed off many.
