New category for Coasters Choice awards

This got me thinking with all of the small, independently owned amusement parks around this great nation. Some of them seem to get alot of praise with the likes of Holiday World, Indiana Beach, Kennywood, etc.

When it comes down to the category of #1 amusement park, the winner and even 2nd and 3rd place always seems to go to the big corporate parks.

To give the smaller parks a fighting chance and some feeling of recognition, why not start a new category that can go something like this.

"Best/Favorite Non-corporate , traditional amusement park".

I think whoever would win this category would be proud and even advertise this award in there park (kind of like what CP does with their awards).

Idea like this, much like I do.. As yoda would say

Then we'd have debates over what constitutes a "corporate park." ;)

I don't know. However I would say a small park has less than 25 rides.

I'm also thinking of a new CC category that called "Best New Ride Concept". In this category it would have like existing ride improvments like lap bars replacing OTS on Premier coasters, new inversion types, coaster types, new themeing styles, new coaster launch systems, or something I didn't post here that concerns rides.

CP Sea Gull population 1,000,000
CP Mufflehead population 1,000,000,000

Well, 25 rides would eliminate Kennywood right off the bat...

Tough, isn't it? ;)

Hmmmmmmm!!! Well, I wasnt thinking by the number of rides in a park. I figured more along the lines of who owns the park.

Eliminated from traditional:

Six Flags, Cedar Fair, Paramount, Disney, Universal, Busch.

Hey, you cant blame a man for trying. ;)

Well technically isn't Kennywood operated by a corporation? Why is it any differnet from any other corporation! Tsk tsk tsk..... :)

Exactly... no one is operating a park in their own name. I mean, I don't even run this site in my own name!

I would just take out the word corporation completely - Award for Best Traditional Amusement Park.

Then again what is "traditional" - but nothing is perfect.

CoasterJPbuzz....a new site for a new century...;)
Or the category could be "Best Park Not Run By Six Flags, Cedar Fair, Busch, Disney, or Universal" :)

But Six Flags operates a couple of parks that are more "traditional" than "corporate." Wyandot Lake for instance.

Overall, I like the idea of this type of category. I fonly the details can be worked out.
