Never met a B&M I didn't like, never. They do vary in intensity, but so do Intamins. Compare the intensity of Millennium Force(scaled down intensity due to high speeds)to S:ROS at SFNE(intensity from beginning to end) and then to California Screaming, which has very tamed forces to make it more of a *family* ride.
Steel coasters are designed down to a science, depending on what a park wants. Believe me, B&M knows *exactly* how many forces every one of their coasters will carry, and so do the parks.

I like the way B&M's make me react.
My first time riding Mantis, when you are going into the helix under the break-run (figure eight) it is banking to the left, then it switches quickly to banking to the right, and then dives down a bit. When I was riding, I felt myself actually throwing myself to the side because I was anticipating that banking.
It was the best feeling I had ever had. Although it doesn't do it for me anymore, it still is a cool part.
I get the same thing on BKF right after the first corkscrew, the turn and drop into the next one is intense. The helix at the end of BKF is the def. of intense!

Well, what I think happened is that the *true* B&M were kidnapped, and are being held captive high in the Swiss Alps, while Ed Markey is running the company. But that's just my take on it.;) But getting serious, ACEerCG's theory is probably the most likely. B&M probably thought that people weren't enjoying the super-intense designs, due to the fact that so many had become braked to death, such as the ones mentioned above. Luckily, some of their fantastic rides from the intense era are still around.(B:TR, Top Gun@PGA, Iron Wolf, Kumba, etc.) We'll just have to hope that they begin making intense rides again someday. In the meantime though, we have Intamin, which IMO is probably the best company out there right now.(Steel-wise, because after all, CCI is the true king of coasters:))

many people say that nitro is the best b+m hyper and s:ros at sfdl/sfa is the more "tame" of the intamin hypers....I have to say that i think that s:ros at sfdl/sfa is more intense then nitro. I found nitro to not have the long amount of air time but rather short and sharp air time. The only thing i found impressive about it was the seating and the first drop (i thought that part was pretty intense) but other then that, i think it's not nearly as exciting as intamin's creations.

"who needs drugs when you have coasters...they're like a natural high"
I thought Nitro had some nice airtime in the front. I did like those over-banked too. I found the finale to be weak however. My first reaction was, "haven't I already done this on Magnum". The backseat ride was dissapointing also. It's funny, but Nitro had more airtime than RB in the front. But it's vice-versa in the back seat. I also found Medusa to be almost forceless. It seemed as if the only purpose to the inversions were to flip you upside-down and that's it. I loved that zero-g roll though! BKF at SFO had a promising start, but it lost all intensity when it hit that cobra roll.
Has anybody ever noticed how the corkscrews/flat spins on newer B&M's don't pack the same punch as the ones on the Batman clones?
I'm glad to see were having some intelligent conversation on this, and not a lot of "it kicks your coaster's butt" comments. I do believe Nitro is a nice ride, and I do believe that B&M engineers a very good ride. But, I feel that everyone in your family, including your great-grandparents, could ride Nitro and would come off feeling fine. In this day of coaster wars, I'm finding I'm having to constantly take it to the next level of adreneline to really enjoy a coaster.

Funny you should mention that..I saw like 3 grandparents riding it. So that proves their coasters are for ALL ages.
