Need to refresh to get current page data

Kick The Sky's avatar
I have found that when coming back to the main page or using the back button to come back to the main page that the topics and such do not refresh automatically and that I need to hit the refresh button to get the page to update. I talked to some other members and they said the same thing is happening for them. It seems that the page is caching and because there is no meta tag for refresh in your page it is displaying the cached page.

It is not a big thing to have to hit the refresh button every so often, but I thought I would make you aware of it. Probably just a fellow ASP.NET coder being overly picky.

Cheers,

I actually have to hit refresh on Every page I go to. I went into a thread that showed updates but when I went in it I didn't see the new posts, I hit refresh and there they were.

Clicking the back button on most browsers doesn't get a new version of the page unless you refresh it. That's by design. I suggest using the breadcrumb links at the top and bottom of every forum and topic.

What time does the water show start?

I do use the links on the top and bottom of the pages. Thats why I don't understand this. I will go to the home page and have to click refresh to see the updated topics. I will then go to the Forum main page and have to click refresh again to see which ones have NEW posts. I'll go to the General forum page and have to click refresh again to see the new topics. Then once I'm in a topic I have to hit refresh again to see the new posts.

Also I just started having this problem today. This has never happened before.

I am using Internet Explorer and I am using Windows XP incase you need to know that.

Much like the cookies.....I ate 'em.....;)

Yes, back button will generally just bring up the cached version of a page, so it's best just to leave the c'buzz page up and minimized and re-visit after each tech support call....;)

Open up Internet explorer and go to tools, Internet options. Once there you will be at the general tab. Under the temporary Internet files there is a settings button. Go to that. Once there look for newer version of this page. You should select every visit to a page. Click apply at the button and close Internet Explorer and you should be good to go.

No problem. You might want to blow your your temp internet files too. Do you get Windows Updates as well? Let me know if you need help doing it. ITs very simple and I can leave you a message on how to do it. Hit me up here or email me at akoolcomputerguy@yahoo.com

Thanks,

Thanks, Dug. That is odd that the browser was set that way. Also keep in mind that many so-called "utilities" and "security" products tend to mess with your browser too, and generally hurt more than help.

This was my computer at work. At home my father has that stupid Norton Internet Security on the computer. I hate that program. It is a bunch of crap. I have to turn it off or else all I get is "This image can only be viewed from CoasterBuzz" or something like that.

Jeff, I think the page setting in IE is set to automatically by default. I am not 100% sure but I think thats what it goes too.

Sarah I think you can play with the script settings in Norton to change some stuff. So me a favor and try this. Open up IE and go to tools then internet options. Go to secruity and then you will see a window with 4 icons in it. Select Trusted sites. Then under that click SITES. Once there add this site to http:\\www.coasterbuzz.com and see if that helps. You will have to close IE and then come back in but it might work. Let me know. Thanks!

Fo me that only allows https (secure server) sites to be added. Odd.

You have to uncheck that little box at the bottom then it will allow it to be input without the https://.

We actually run an internet-based data entry and reporting system for the State of FL, so I'm pretty familiar with IE and SSLs and the like....the hardest part of my job is convincing our "remote users" that their *local* IT/MIS/whatever is responsible for their internet access, and that *we* are responsible ONLY for the application itself.

I guess once you've helped a user, they figure you're the right guy for ANY job....;)

Reminds me of "Nick Burns, The Computer Guy", of SNL fame. :)

I am looking to move to Florida. Is your company hiring?
