NAPHA names Cedar Point number one again with three top-five coasters

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

According to a press release issued by Cedar Fair, NAPHA has named Cedar Point the "best park in the world" according to their 2000 survey. They also named Magnum #1 for the tenth year in a row, with Millennium Force at #2 and Raptor at #4.

Read the press release from Cedar Fair.

just face it why maggie is still number 1. It's layout is totally amazing. It offers great air time, It has cool tunnels and it also has a great view. The air you catch on the first drop is totally wild. Another biggie is the fact it was the first coaster to beat the 200 foot barrier. Once this was beat it put another coaster craze in many people. IT also force other parks to build bigger taller and faster coaster to beat magnum's rep. Maggie in my opionon revolutionized rollercoasters. It set a new standard for rollercoasters which enabled new hyper coasters to be built. Maggie is everyones favorite for the same reason the coney island cylcone and the beast are. If maggie didn't come when it did I doubt we would have had near as many hyper coasters and other thing that also are on the poll list and things like that.
Magnum is a steel copy of a wooden out-and-back coaster layout. Not that special. And what's the difference between 199 and 200 ft.? It's just a number. A coaster over 200 ft. was bound to hit sometime.

Wow. I've never seen so many wrong opinions! This thread is full of them. As a matter of fact, they're all wrong! :)
1. If you need a poll to justify that your favorite coaster is the best in the world, you are looking at this the wrong way. This is one poll, and don't be insulted if you disagree. Come up with your own poll if you want.

2. Cedar Point has a magic about it that some people get, and some don't. Many people out there have a deep-rooted personal attachment to CP.

3. Magnum is, simply put, the best steel ride in the world. If you disagree, you are just plain wrong! ;)

Don't touch the watch.
It's one thing to express your opinions. It's another thing to force those opinions on others. I don't have too much respect for a lot of you in this thread.

this just proves that cp is the best and alwase will be the best. just because its cp

Go Coasterbuzzers!!!!!
I agree with you Lynch. It seems like on this board there is not very much respect for oppossing opinions, especially if they're not pro-CP. I really LOVE Cedar Point, but the nazi like way the CP fans attack you if you don't love CP is one of the most annoying things I have seen in the rollercoaster community. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to stop it. *** This post was edited by DWeaver on 3/25/2001. ***

I think that "Maggie" and MF will continue to be on NAPHA top ten list for years to come. But if you notice other top ten
lists those coasters are no where near the top.

what are you talking about? Mf is #1 on lots of polls.
Yes, it is true, some people can't admit the fact that other parks have some great rides. Honestly, if I was just going for rides, I'd go to PKI instead...

Me too CP-Dustin. But I have to go to CP this year for MF and Raptor as SROS and Alpengeist are too far away. Plus, I might as well stop by being only an hour away at SFWoA. If only PKI had a steel hyper or giga... I would never have to make a trip to CP again...unless they get some other one-of-a-kind or biggest coaster. ;)

What about the two awards that the entertainment dept. won at the IAAPA show. The Golden Ticket awards (in Amusement Today) that rated Magnum, MF, & Raptor #1,2, & 5. Also naming CP #1 in capacity and overall. What about the Applause Award CP has received. What about all the other surveys that consistently rank CP the best of the best.

Let's face, CP knows what they are doing. They know how to make rides and attractions that appeal to many people. Respect them for that. Every park has a different approach in terms of rides, shows, food, theming, etc. Since CP is so different than IoA, or SF, or KW, or BGW, or anyone's home park is no reason to trash them.

CP is consistently highly rated because they know what the general public wants, and they deliver. GP ashs for records, CP delivers. What's wrong with that?

Overall, just enjoy the parks. Every park is unique in its own way. Accept them for that and enjoy them. Amusement & theme parks are supposed to be fun, not the source of arguement. Just enjoy the parks. And if you hate these polls so much or disagree, join NAPHA and vote, instead of complaining about the results. Otherwise, forget the poll and enjoy your homepark and have FUN!
Thats not necessarily, true Superbatboy. What polls are you referring too. Ive seen Top 10's where Millennium Force was always in the Top 5. Granted Magnum didnt rate as high. Also, on Mitch Hawkers poll for 99 steel coasters, Magnum was ranked #11.
Magnum! Boooooo!!!! Millennium Force is WAY BETTER. Give me a break! MF is nearly 100 feet taller and 20 mph faster. Magnum is so rough. It's time to get in the 21st century, MILLENNIUM FORCE!!!!!!

Best Steel
1.) Millennium Force - CP
2.) Medusa - SFMW
3.) Dueling Dragons (Ice) - IOA
4.) Dueling Dragons (Fire) - IOA
5.) The Incredible Hulk - IOA

I made my own poll this afternoon and closed it in an hour. I only got one set of votes and they were from me. :)

Best Park: Cedar Point
Best Shows: Cedar Point
Best Theming: Cedar Point
Best Food: Cedar Point
Best Employees: Cedar Point
Best Coaster: My dear ol' Maggie

I guess that settles that. America's number one rockin' rollercoast has done it again.

This is meant to be satire. I am not really serious. *** This post was edited by Superdisk on 3/26/2001. ***
Uh, theming? mmmmmmkay, if you say so.

Getting into this "discussion" late I have a few comments:

1] I am shocked at the number of people who are belittling others for any opinion other than "CP and their coasters are the best." As human beings is natural that we all have different likes and dislikes. Having pride in one's home park or favorite coaster is good. However to be blinded by that pride is unhealthy and I find it very distastefull to be telling people who happen to have a differing opinion that they are wrong.

2] NAPHA has consitently been out of step with other polls, particularly Mitch's steel and wood poll and the Amusement Today poll. The "H" in NAPHA stands for "Historical" and it seems [to me at least] no coincidence that their polls reflect traditional parks [CP and Kennywood being just two examples].

3] What really matters is what each individual likes.

4] I went to the NAPHA website but could not find any mention of their poll. I wonder if the people who make up NAPHA rode SFNE's S:ROS? If so I wonder where that ranked, if at all. It seems that version of Ride of Steel along with MF were the two steel coasters that seemed to make just about every enthusiast "favorite" lists.

Please people...can't we all just get along?

Yeah, maybe when MF gets some trim brakes it will go up in ranking as well.
Can we stop this coaster madness? Ok, i guess not...

They should do a poll on top wooden coasters! PKI would totally put down the competition! YEA!
The poll was more of an "amusement" deal than with theme parks.
