Kennywood's Thunderbolt has apparently fallen slightly out of favor with NAPHA members, as the organization has named Boulder Dash and Lake Compounce the new number one wood coaster in the world.
Read the press release from Lake Compounce.
Its single admission but there is a General Admission for shows, train, trolley rides and beach
Its a great park, and with short lines its worth a visit and if this is the "northeast" park rumored for the Setpoint ride it will bring it to a another level
Jeff,
Im sorry but i have to so no! this time
you are wrong about the bias thing. OF course they are opiions but look at how the the word is used in the world of the academia! In statistics in a topic called Sampling, "biases" are used to describe and account for skewed data, in other words biased sampling accounts for bad data..... isnt that exactly whast the problem here?
I think in general NAPHAs memebers have different implicit mental criteria when ranking the coasters.problem comes down to the fact that they account for a certain level of nostalgia.... it tends to be that the longer something is in the list the longer they like to keep it there, also the longer something has been physically built they more brownie points it has. I believe Boulder Dash is a good ride! but that is not the reason it is on the list.... there was a second circumstance this year.... a big hole--> what i mean is that if think about it there was a void in the wooden coaster list.... last year it was obvious that they just did what they had always doen . they took a bit of heat for it and it was obviosu that the coasters they chose werent the most intelligent choses. Same thing happened in the steel side. MF wouldnt be there at all if there wasnt room for it. If NAPHA had 5 coasters they really liked that were steel classics and werent sick of.... then none of the new steelies would be there..
I believe this is how NAPHA works. Its sort of the principle they were founded on.
You're missing the point, Ron. Of course it's biased, that goes without saying. If you say something is biased (and we already know polls are), then you have to say what it's biased to.
