My Web host sucks ass

The only serious restriction of the Web edition is no Windows Media server. Other than that, it doesn't run ASP, ASP.Net, or any script platform differently. Wasn't aware that SQL wouldn't run on it.

And as for administration... uh, remote desktop... looks just like Windows XP. Not sure how that'd be unfamiliar.

I think I'll probably give ServerMatrix a shot. We'll see.

Well, once you're used to a certain way of doing things, readjusting CAN be a pain. Heck, I still fire up a command shell on XP (actually, usually that's a 4NT shell), because I can still do some things more quickly there than waiting for the Explorer to come up and click around.

Just thought I'd share...

I do have a new box and it's ready to go. Unfortunately, I had a massive hard drive crash on my desktop at home, so I'm in the process of rebuilding it and recovering many files from all over the damn place, so moving the sites will have to wait until later this week.

The new host seems to be a hair faster in terms of connection, and also has more bandwidth than God. Should be a nice, though subtle, improvement.

If you haven't already tried it...

Stick the drive in the freezer for a few hours then set it up as a slave, you may be able to recover some of the data.
