My 1 visit Hypersonic Closed

I had one day at pkd, and i got there and hypersonic was broken all day, i was mad, i had waited for 6 months, and the last thing i though would happen is that it would close, i talked to someone and they said that it is closed all of the time, did this happen to anyone else ever? I am so mad. All of the other rides were amazing, but i was so disapointed that is was closed.

Dude, I know how you feel. I knew about it actually for a bit longer because of some freinds in high places, and just yesterday, on my first visit in a year, the line for XLC was 4 hours. ALL DAY! The fast passes weren't being issued for some strange reason, and it kept breaking down, so me and my buds decided to screw it. The rest of the time was fun, but man, that sucked.
they are not using the fast pass system for a while they haven't even started using it. and i have ridden it 8 times. sorry dudes!!!!

The same thing happened to me last summer with SoB. I was really upset, at the time. It comes with the territory, though.

Just this year I missed out on Ultra Twister, Greezed Lightnin' and Thriller (Texas Tornado) due to weather. I really wanted to try Anton's "masterpiece."

"X" marks the spot in 2001!
The second week Hypersonic was open, we flew up on a weekend trip cause it was the beginning of my spring break. We went to BGW on Saturday which ruled, practically no lines. We stayed at the Best Western on PKD's property Saturday night. The next day as we got to the park the signs were up that said H:XLC was closed. We had a great day and the park was deserted. They said Hypersonic was closed because they were adding the 3rd and 4th cars to the system.

So the next saturday we flew back up to ride Hypersonic again and this time it opened. But it didn't open till 3hrs after the park did, and I had to wait 3hrs outside the queue that whole time. Then worst of all I thought the ride sucked after I finally got to ride it. The heavy lap/shin/ankle bars made any airtime impossible to get, the ride was over before it started, the verticle drop, well there was a verticle drop of 5ft, but I didn't even notice it.

Oh yea BTW, the second day I went only 2 trains were running, and they were stacking them (completly defeating the purpose of why they said it was closed the previous weekend). 8 passenger train stacking isn't a good thing. Stupid Stupid Stupid Hypersonic!

Neil, just remember that you were trying to ride a prototype, and prototypes often have problems. I think you have the right to be angry, but always remember, if it's not running, it's for your safety.

Batwing-Bow Down
I got to ride it twice and it was SWEET, and I only had to wait 20 mins!

Hypersonic does have serious reliability and capacity issues. It is currently launching an 8 passenger train every 90 seconds. This gives a capacity of just 320 riders per hour. Add the fact that it is down about half of the time and the capacity gets very low.

PKD is wise to not issue Fastpasses at this time as the demand for tickets would completely exceed the rides capacity, and people would be understandably upset when they arrived with their Fastpass, and the coaster is closed.

I believe that the trains were supposed to be launched about every 35 seconds, but they are no where near this rate at this time. I would imagine that this is in part due to control issues. (Note: Only half of the station is in use at this time.) Even at this rate the capacity would be quite low for a feature attraction.

Both S&S and PKD have had some issues with this ride; technically, organiztionally, and in how the public relations have been handled. Hopefully, they will both learn from the experience. *** This post was edited by Jim Fisher on 7/23/2001. ***
Well, if it makes you feel any better, my first trip to PKD was in August of '98, specifically because I had heard of Volcano (mind you, I lived in Illinois at the time). But when we went, Volcano was closed. I was pretty pissed that day. I'm still a little bitter now after riding Volcano and realizing how bad it sucks.

Luckily, I was able to ride the Hypersonic on my recent vacation, however, I had to blow right past Batwing and X-Flight. The lines were too long and operation seem unsteady.
2Hostyl, I don't mean to get all snippy, but what is wrong with Volcano? I found it better than Alpie, but mabey it's just me;)

I don't think he likes any rides anymore. I can't remember the last time he said he liked anything. ;)

(self-reflection) Maybe the hostyl one should keep his opinions on inverted coasters to himself (end self-reflection)

Anyway, on Volcano, the 1st launch was no better than FoF, the turn was a little rough, the second accleration was just there, the flip out of the mountain was cool, the three heartline spins were boring and I dont like the feeling of falling upside-down, the swoop drop into the brakes was thrilling yet anti-climatic. Too many negatives, not enough positives (and I'm not talking G-forces here).

who reminds Jeff than he likes this "little" green & black coaster outside of P'burgh *** This post was edited by 2Hostyl on 7/23/2001. ***
2Hostyl has a point about Volcano to a degree, albeit a small one. I found the ride great AFTER the second launch, but why waster the speed of the first launch on a simple turnaround - my only though is that the second launch wasn't powerful enough by itself to gain the necessary speed (which is considerable when you take into account it's a VERTICAL launch). But I though a helix or something after the first set of LIMs would've made the ride a LOT better...

You want to try riding Volcano in the front without anyone else on the ride - it's AWESOME.

A helix inside the Volcano before the brakes would have been nice!

Well going back to the subject. Its to bad about Hypersonic. I hope before Cedar Point gets one they have worked the problems out. But I don't think CP would get a bad, low capacity coaster so they must be doing something to it.

As for prototypes, I would think that they correct any problems they had before selling it to a park, I guess not

You are the Weakest Link, Goodbye.
Remember that Volcano had to be adapted to a largely existing environment. The mountain and a the ponds were there before the coaster. The first big run around the mountain gets you lined up for the approach to the turnup. You actually start into the second set of motors on the flat, but they continue through the up curve into the vertical. Personally I kind of like the feeling that things seem to slow down a bit and then whoosh, up you go.

You should really try riding Volcano in the front seat. The visual going up through and out of the top of the mountain is terrific. Actually, it's not too bad from the second row.
I want to ride V:TBC in the front, but I am not going to wait 2hrs for it. I should have done it early in the season, but for various reasons did not. Now I will have to wait until the end of the year. Unless I can ever get my lazy butt up early enough for the passholders ERT.
