Music to Coaster/Park By

People here are really good at actually answering questions. The original poster asked for songs, not just artist names (who have a huge discography to choose from). ;)
And isn't it logical that a conversation about songs turned into a conversation about the artists that perform the songs? ;)
Most of the stuff I listed above were for people that like more of the punk/rock stuff, but here's a fresh, fun mixtape you can make and impress your friends with. ;)

1) All For Swinging You Around by The New Pornographers
2) Hands Open by Snow Patrol
3) Requiem for O.M.M.2 by Of Montreal
4) Chicago by Sufjan Stevens
5) Don't Call Me Whitney, Bobby by Islands
6) Car by Built to Spill
7) 7/4 (Shoreline) by Broken Social Scene
8) Do the Whirlwind by Architecture in Helsinki
9) Shine a Light by Wolf Parade
10) Mushaboom (Postal Service remix) by Feist
11) Cash Machine by Hard-Fi
12) Portions for Foxes by Rilo Kiley
13) I'm a Wheel by Wilco
14) Over My Head (Cable Car) by The Fray
15) Steady As She Goes by The Raconteurs
16) Destroy Everything You Touch by Ladytron
17) Roller Coaster by Sleater-Kinney
18) Coney Island by Death Cab for Cutie

Rob, obviously, but there were only a couple of people that ever mentioned actual songs by those artists for suggestions and that was near the end of the thread. I just know when I've asked for suggestions of music from people before, I want to know specific song suggestions and not have to listen to all their songs. If I was asking for a flat ride suggestion, I wouldn't want someone to just say Canada's Wonderland or Blackpool Pleasure Beach or Huss or Chance or something. =p *** Edited 5/24/2006 9:27:20 PM UTC by +Danny***

I have about 6 or 7 mixed CD's that I use on coaster trips......everything from 80's to Evanessance to the CRUE! :-P

-Tina

I don't have any special music, just whatever I pop into the car at the time. But...

No "Love Rollercoaster" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers? (Or really going back, the original by "The Ohio Players")

"Tunnel of Love"-- titles of 2 different songs, One by Springsteen, the other by Dire Straits. Both use amusement park imagery for those who've never heard either song.

"Helter Skelter" by the Beatles.

"Roam" and "Love Shack" by the B-52s. Just 'cuz.

Buncha stuff by 60's artists like the Beach Boys, Rascals, Martha and the Vandellas, and Paul Revere and the Raiders. (who, who, who and who????) I don't know, lots of 60s stuff just reminds me of summer and my first trips to a lot of parks.

Oh yeah and that song from where I got my signature.

When heading somewhere by myself or with friends, it is usually whatever oldies/classic rock station that we can find.

However, it has been a family tradition for several years now that when we make our annual HW and PKI trip with the kids, that we listen to silly songs. It started off the first year with one cassette of TV theme songs, and every year the collection grows. I think that I am now up to 11 or 12 CDs of stuff that I have found at yard sales and mostly downloaded from the web. Great songs like Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road, Purple People Eater, The Streak, Fraggle Rock, The Brady Bunch Theme, Muppet Show Theme, lot of Wierd Al and Dr. Deminto.

Even though the kids are 17 and 18 now, we still have alot of fun to and from the park. The songs bring back great memorys of trips past. Every one sings along, mostly off key, and we are all in fun mode by the time we get to where we are going.

Life is an amusment park -and I can't get off of the damn spinning teacups!
There was a list floating around r.r.c a couple of years ago. Here is few songs I have on a Rhapsody Playlist

"Love Rollercoaster" - Ohio Players
"Free Ride" - Edgar Winter Group
"Magic Carpet Ride" - Steppenwolf
"Walk This Way" - Aerosmith
"Roller Coaster" - Blood, Sweat and Tears
"Rollercoaster" - B*Witched
"The Joker" - Steve Miller Band
"Spirit In The Sky" - Kentucky Headhunters
"Bad To The Bone" - George Thorogood
"Sky" - Sonique

A day at the park is what you make it!

LOL at Fragglerock. Hey Craig, Beth, Nicole,Frank... :)

It's fun to listen to TV theme songs with a group and see who can name the show.

For the most part, I listen to the same kind of music on trips as I would at home, but like I said, I tend to save the film music for home--it can be hard to hear in the car without cranking the volume and it seems that most people find it boring.

Ohhh, you did not just go there. ;) You had already made a couple specific song suggestions, but thank you for more. I'm using some of this as well. =p *** Edited 5/24/2006 11:56:57 PM UTC by +Danny***

Whoever mentioned Cascada I completely agree with. That whole CD was excellent and to Danny I recently picked up both The Postal Service and Panic! At the Disco...both excellent as well.
On the way to DW to ride Thunderhead on opening day 2004...why White Zombie's "Thunder Kiss '65" of course!

Good call +Danny on the Death Cab "Coney Island" jam.

Somehow I always end up listening to The Secret Machines going to and/or from BB and HW.

"Monster Disco" compilation on the way home from Visionland 2003.

The Scorpions in The Dells.

Spiritualized "Ladies and Gentlemen We're Floating in Space" on the way to SFGAm.

Music to park by? Now this is a family site! ;-)

Good old Classic Rock here, 70s and 80s - and I'm not even 25 yet!

The Bands:

Styx - Wouldn't "Come Sail Away" be great for The Voyage? "Fooling Yourself" is their best, heard it at KI years ago...
Kansas - "Point of Know Return"
Electric Light Orchestra - You can hear "Mr. Blue Sky" at KI. "Livin' Thing" is my favorite
Van Halen - "Dreams" "When it's Love" (I favor Hagar)
Tom Petty - "You Got Lucky"
Asia - "Only Time Will Tell" "Heat of the Moment"
Queen - "Don't Stop Me Now"

Dental Plan! Lisa Needs Braces.

I hate to admit that I know this, but Fraggle Rock is going to be popular again as a kids movie in 2007 is being released. The "doozers" were the guys who were always building something, to bad thier structures never included fotters for large coasters. If I recall correctly, their stuff was constantly getting knocked down.

When I head to Great ADventure, What gets me in the mood is hearing 92.5 FM. In New York City, we don't have a country station. When we travel south - towards Philly I get WXTU...when I travel east or north east, I get get to hear WXTY - which ironically is also at 92.5 FM in Hartford.

We also don't have an oldies station, but nothing beats WLNG on the way to splish splash. They play EVERYTHING. You can hear "Smoke On The Water" followed by a Nat King Cole song. In between there are tons of classic jingles --> even a call-in Swap and Shop show.

WLNG Radio 92.1 FM - The Oldies Station

GREAT FUN!

Here's To Shorter Lines & Longer Trip Reports!

thrillerman, I like to end most of my mixes on a more mellow song that sort of wraps the whole idea of the CD up and I think Coney Island is just really refreshing, positive, and optimistic.

FTW, those are both extremely fun albums. :)

It seems all we ever get done listening to on our trips is The Wiggles or some Disney Channel star, (most recently it was the sountrack from "High School Musical"). And the sad part is...I actually don't mind it most times.

But Rush, Def Leppard, Poison, Aerosmith, and even KISS all rock for road trips! Can't get enough of the song "Love Roller Coaster".

Its funny. I value everyone's opinion here when it comes to coastering, but if I was stuck in a car with some of you guys playing this stuff I think I'd have to throw myself out of the car before we got halfway to the park! lol

Ah well, I guess that's why they made different message boards for different topics. ;)

Note to self: don't bring 5-disc "Greatest Hits" collection from Yoko Ono if travelling with matt ;)
