'Most Improved Player'

No woodie has improved this season as much as the Yankee Cannonball. GCI's retracking, removal of thee turnaround trims, and new brake system restored this ride to its full potential. The airtime is sweet now, you come off the turnaround which much so more speed now that the return trip is filled with glory. The paint job also was done well, though I miss the classic yellow, the red seems more patriotic.

...and a two-train operation awaits Cannonball in 2003! More of GCI magic up in New England.

My vote goes to M:TR for most improved woodie.

Vertigo - it was my understanding that after the accident last year and for all of 2002 Cannonball only ran w/ one train. The work GCI was doing on the coaster was a 2 part project, with the second half during this off-season, and that a new braking system was to be installed so that the second train could be used again.

If that is incorrect, I apologize.

Sorry about that, but if I'm not mistaken, the ole' Yankee had both the red and yellow train on Science four weeks ago. Mike87, have you seen the second train lately either? Maybe it was just for Science day.

5 letters and one symbol. OL:FOF.

Yeah. I'd have to say all the Premier coasters that had their OTSR's removed have to qualify for "Most Improved". While I didn't think Mr. Freeze was too bad with OTSRs (aside from the restriction of your view), it made a HUGE difference in OL:FoF...well, I assume it did, as I have only ridden it without the OTSR...but a coaster that twists and turns as much as FoF does must have been headache hell with the old restraints.

My other vote for "Most Improved" would have to be American Eagle, blue train, at SFGAm. Having the train backwards makes what I feel has become a somewhat tame coaster, into virtually a brand new ride. I really hope they leave it this way, because it is SO, SO much better. Of course, they'll probably switch it back, so they can hype the fact that it's backwards every few years when they don't have a new major attraction (if anyone from SFGAm is reading this, PLEASE, please do what you can to get upper management to leave AE-blue running backwards !)

Honorable mention ? V2 & Deja Vu & SFGAm. They are actually running pretty reliably this season. Congrats !

How about "Least Improved Player", or "Worst Maintainence Regression" ? My vote would go to both woodies at SFStL. Both the Boss and Screamin' Eagle are running very rough this year.

For the Boss, the problem is the extreme laterals combined with those awful lapbars on the G-trains. Pad the sides of the bars, or better yet, replace them with PTC trains, and you have one hell of a ride - potential for several "offical" top 10 lists, like Golden Ticket, Discovery Channel, etc. Such a shame it can't live up to it's potential. I still love it though :)

American Eagle - Are those seats padded ?! Are they using steel roller skate wheels ? Are the trains really 'lil red wagons disguised as PTC trains ? Why does it feel like I'm getting a spanking at the bottom of ever drop ? It wasn't like this last year...

First of all, I am still waiting for a comment from you, Moosh! Secondly, I have to ask, has anyone here (besides me) ridden Mad Cobra (the FOF clone in Japan)? It still has the OTSRs and it rocks... I guess it matters what they use for restraints, eh? I have pics too!

nasai - comment about what? You haven't ridden M:TR. Heck...no one has, the thing has been SBNO for quite some time now.

Moosh - giving new meaning to SBNO...LOL!

I'd say deja vu(sfga). It actually started running reliably.

Moosh, why the SBNO? Is there an eagles nest on it too? Has it been that long since anyone took a spin? I don't know about you guys, but I prefer the airtime in the back.;)

Quick comment on SOB:

I think for this season (knowing full well that I am part of the crew and take great pride in such) we kept the ride running more than last year (GO WOOD COASTER MAINTENANCE AT PKI!!! (especially Travis and Kidder)). That, and the other ride we had, Top Gun, actually set a new record for capacity (1040 riders and 39 cycles in one hour, with me driving). So, I think as a whole, our group stepped up and helped a little.

Now, I shall remove my head out of my ass and make my 'most improved coaster' remarks.

I think that Racer backwards definitely should take this years award. I have heard from certain people in the park that it hasnt ran this well since the late 70`s. The FOF restraints (Its no longer OL:FOF, Paramount didnt keep the rights for the name Outer Limits) was done a couple of years back. In a close second would definitely be Screechin` Eagle. Just seeing it in action again warms my heart.
