Most Impact/Influence for 2001

Whether you like it or not, MF was probably the most talked about ride this year. Stealth brought us a whole new riding experience. SoB may also prove to be an important milestone as the first looping, wooden coaster. So, given what we know so far about 2001, which ride do you think will have the most impact/influence for next year?

My first thought is Phantom's Revenge based purely on the inevitable comparisons to it's predecessor.

Right now, I'd say Hypersonic XLC. The general public has never seen anything like it, and I'm sure there are going to be quite a few people with that "What the...?!" look on their face. Plus, it will be under heavy scrutiny from the enthusiasts to see how it performs. Phantom's Revenge will also be one that is closely watched.

Just keep in mind that there are still a lot (hopefully!) more announcements to come....
Well, SOB is not the first looping wooden coaster, only the first SUCCESSFUL looping wooden coaster, i.e., one that doesn't snap peeps necks. It's safe to say it is the only one in existence today. Anyways, I agree that Hypersonic will have a big impact, along with Phantom's Revenge, but we'll see what else comes along. If any park in the states here gets a dive machine, say maybe Magic Mountain ;)(I hope), I think even though the technology isn't new, it would be one of the most watched and most desired rides in the country next year. Anyways, I can't wait for some more annoucements. Peace. :)

Medusa at Marine World: the best in the west!
I think Wildfire in SDC will have the biggest influence on the theme park industry if it is successful next year.

The reason I say that is because its not breaking any records and doesn't put the park over the top in terms of coaster count. If Wildfire gets critical acclaim it will show theme park execs that they don't need to go out and drop 30 million on new technology to generate more crowds.

However, if its arrival isn't that big of a deal, and if park attendance doesn't jump much then the theme park industry will keep swinging for the fences.

then again... we STILL dont know how tall that great adventure monster will be...
gigacoastersrule took the words right out of my mouth. SFGAdv. is my homepark, and the hyper coming to Great Adventure may make Great Adventure one of the top destinations in 2001(not like it hasn't been a top destination in the past with arrivals of Medusa, Chiller, and Batman: The Ride the past decade).

I would say Hypersonic XLC, but since Its so short and a new kind of ride it reminds me of Stealth. Even though I haven't ridden Stealth yet, I don't think It made a huge impact on 2000. So with that said, the big impact ride will be Phantom's Revenge.

Well you know that SFMM ALWAYS has some kind of impact on the amusement world when they add a new coaster. SFMM is rumored to have TWO new coasters next year. So we'll see.
The new Arrow prototype will take the coaster world by storm, just watch! Remember the impact of Magnum and SFMM's Viper? Arrow is about to do it again.

Best wood:
1)The Legend
I don't think Wildfire is the only example of a coaster for next year that's not going over the top. Phantom's Revenge doesn't break any records, either, but is shaping up to be a *VERY* good thing for Kennywood...

Hey Gregleg I would add Talon. It too is not breaking any records, but might have a big impact for Dorney.

It's hard for me to say since not all the new coasters have been announced yet. So far, probably Hpersonic XLC.

I have recieved a postcard from six flags about season passes and on it, it said this. "Coming 2001: The most thrilling and exciting ride we ever added!" Must be pritty big to top Medusa!
Yes... The Iaapa (i think trade show is big for arrow and their new... whatever) and SFMM still doesnt have the official stats on a new coaster...

:::cough, connection, cough:::
Just watch, Arrow WILL do it again! That's all I will say. Keep doubting it if you want to. That will make it all the more exciting when it happens.

WE may have been disappointed by the fact that Hypersonic is ony 165, but the public is still gonna be pretty freakin impressed with 0-80 in 1.8, I am VERY impressed with that. I think anything with a 90 degree first drop in the US will definitely get some serious publicity. In my opinion, whatever is hugely successful will get the public's attention. SOB wasn't exactly hugely popular with it's delays and one-train operation 3 hour waits. I think that even after it has been fixed, it lost some of it's flair, but I though that this was one of the coolest coasters of the year. The loop and and that whole 78mph thing on wood was very neat. Stelath dis NOT get what it deserved.

Coasters- a little slice of heaven
That is true, Hypersonic is not that tall. Its just a little taller than Mantis. Which compared to Millennium Force is about half size. Not that I care, but the GP wants the tallest and fastest.

I still think Hypersonic will be loads of fun
