Hello everyone! I'm planning a HalloWeekends trip to Cedar Point for my family. My wife and I have been several times, but this will be our first trip with our son who will be 3 years old... We have never stayed on the Point but thought it would be a good idea with the little one. I've been pricing out packages at Breakers, and found some reasonable deals in the old sections of Breakers. But looking online I'm finding complaints of mold. All I ask of a hotel is a clean room, comfortable bed, and a hot shower. My wife worked for Environmental Health & Safety at UofR and has mold radar. Moldy rooms would be a deal breaker! So what are your experiences at Breakers, both food and bad? Thanks! But then again, what do I know?
You could ask us, but just because none of us ever encountered mold doesn't mean that others have had the same experience. The newer parts are virtually all concrete, so I can't imagine it'd be a huge problem there. The old Bon Aire wing, that would be somewhat expected. It's old.

I have stayed in the old section and recommend them. My biggest complaint is outdated decor & price. But then I think about a backed up causeway and know bypassing that is priceless.
May I suggest checking out Castaway Bay. Stayed their for HW 2010 for a steal (much cheaper then Breakers) not to mention that you also get access to an indoor waterpark as well.
2022 Trips: WDW, Sea World San Diego & Orlando, CP, KI, BGW, Bay Beach, Canobie Lake, Universal Orlando
I've stayed at Breakers aexpress 3 times. Nothing fancy, no mold. Great bang for the buck. Obvioulsy free parking, and early entry is a huge plus. I'd recommend it... But don't get too excitted.

^^Mold is one thing, bed buds is quite another level. Gross! I always check for both.
Oh Billy, you prude! When has a "bed bud" ever been a bad thing :-)
Forget the bed bugs and mold. Child's play. It is the stuff on the comforters you've got to be concerned about and that isn't limited to a Cedar Fair property. Very few hotel chains, even at the higher levels, wash their bed comforters more than once a month (if that) and THAT is where a lot of real action takes place.
First thing I do when I check into a hotel is strip the comforter off the bed. Take it from "someone who knows".
Worrying about outdated decor in the Bon Aire may be a thing of the past, if what I've seen and heard is true.
My wife won't stay in the old section anymore. Never encountered mold, but it is musty,
I checked out Breakers Express but the whole purpose of staying on
Point is that when my son is done, he's done. No warning that he is getting tired, just turns from a cute cuddly Magwaii to a nasty evil Gremlin before you know what happened. Breakers is appealing because it is RIGHT THERE. If we were going to get in the car to go back to a room at Castaway Bay or Express we would stay in a cabin at Camp Sandusky (which is probably the best kept secret on the area) again like we have in the past...
But then again, what do I know?
^^What happens if you feed him after midnight when you're NOT in a park???
The amusement park rises bold and stark..kids are huddled on the beach in a mist

^ Haha then we would be in trouble. This is also why we plan on going in the fall; Soak City, Shoot the Rapids, Snake River Falls, and Thunder Rapids will all be closed so hopefully he stays dry... ;)
But then again, what do I know?

I will admit, I am a prude. But I meant bed bugs :) There is a lot of bed bud-ing going around that area, though, especially in the dorms.

I'll also confirm mustiness.
10/15 years ago I'd have sworn by the cost/convenience ratio of the old section of Breakers.
Now, it's not even a consideration when we stay on property.
That entire wing is being remodeled for this year. I think it's safe to say there won't be any issues in the hotel.

I've been hoping that Cast Member Matt would see fit to upgrade the hotel experience a little bit. Hopefully, this is the beginning of more good news to come.
Gonch: I'm going to guess that's because you are on a different point on the time/money curve than you were 10-15 years ago.
No, actually it's because the rooms got worse and worse in that section to the point where we were no longer comfortable staying there.
Last time we stayed was 2003. It was so bad (yes, moldy - musty, smelly, worn, dirty) that we tried to complain but apparently Dick thought, "people have to sleep" just like he thought, "people have to eat" and in mid-summer you're not just going to walk-in to a room in Sandusky. Kinda had us by the balls and they knew it.
After that we just quit looking there as an option. The old setion was a nice 'trick' to doing on property on the cheap and as a result we haven't stayed on property since then as much as we used to before that.
Then again, I'm also of the belief that a lot of things went downhill at the Point right around that time frame (the couple of years after MF).
