Mitch's Wood Coaster Poll '06

IIRC, after you vote you get a link to the ballots. I guess that's to prevent bandwagon voting.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

The ballots are there. Go here and click on 2005 poll results. I didn't vote (and I don't intend to) and I can see them.
Right.. those are last year's ballots, millrace. This year's ballots are available only to people who already voted since you can still submit ballots for this year. That's to prevent people from changing their ballots based on current submissions.

I still think you'd have to be a complete and utter TOOL to change your rankings based on OTHER people's opinions...

Me? I just wait until the last minute...that way I can find my ballot easier when questioned....and I *do* get questioned... :)

Oh is that what he meant by current results? :) Nevermind. I promise to read more carefully next time.
So if I submit on coasterfanatics, I don't get to see the up to date results? Or do I just need to wait for an e-mail?
No matter how you submit, you should get an e-mail from Mitch with the link-- if for no other reason but to see your own ballot and make sure it was done correctly.
Anyone who don't question Gators methods would be a Tool.

Chuck :)

So I had been told people here had been talking about me.. And hey look! It's true..

It's #7 - has Raven at 83.

I recognize the screen name and he seems to be reputable poster on another message board.

I'll also note he has Shivering Timbers all the way down at #65, Zeus at #79, Balder at #16, and Grand National at #73.

On a personal, totally subjective level, I think his taste in coasters is pretty much crap (i.e., way different from mine) but the Raven rating would only raise flags for me if it didn't come with some other relatively low rankings for other pretty popular coasters.

Yeah Hi. That would be mine.
First off I think its sad I have to come here to defend myself because people cant get over the fact that not everyone likes the same rides...... But anyways here I am...

So let’s see... I had the "guts" to say I like the coasters I like... Not the ones "EVERYONE" wants me to like... :O People can have different opinions :O!!
I don’t think I should be flamed for it... You don’t see me going and bashing the picks you all made...

Every coaster I rated I can back up WHY I put it where I did. And if you don’t like that DEAL WITH IT. I didn’t force you to look at how I placed my coasters.

Raven at 83. - Raven was one of the biggest let downs of my LIFE. It was such a BAD,ROUGH,Small coaster. I don’t care how it ran in 1998 with buzzbars or whatever... It ran like CRAP when I rode it... And with Boulderdash just 2 hours from where I live I didn’t see what made it special.

Shivering Timbers all the way down at #65 - I rode it once... Liked it... Then I rode it a second time... And it was good... Time three... OK... The more I rode it the less I liked it... it was just hill hill hill... It felt laggy. And the air wasn’t there.

Zeus at #79 - How is that low?! Zeus jack hammers almost as hard as SOB does....I took 2 rides on it just because I felt bad for the ride....If this ride burned to the ground... I wouldn’t care.

Balder at #16 - Have you even been on the ride? Who are you to tell me I rated it low  (YES it was GOOD... But its turn lack... The ride is JUST airtime... nothing more)

Grand National at #73 - OK this one I can see why people would get mad... But did you ride it THIS YEAR? It has new trains with lapbars from HELL... BIG STEEL BARS that don’t lock in place... they keep going down as the ride goes on... By the end of the ride I was pinned in hard it HURT. (Makes G-Trains seem like heaven!)

As for people saying my top picks are bad/wrong... the ONLY coaster in my top 10 I could see people question would be Lost Coaster.. But the other 9 I can’t see why I would be flamed for....

Now let me pick apart my top 10 so you don’t have to
Boulder Dash Lake Compounce ,CT,y,y,1 - Hmm don’t most people like this ride? So what’s wrong with it being my #1 (NOTHING it’s MY #1... NOT yours...)

Lost Coaster of SM Indiana Beach ,IN,y,n,2 - I could see why people might think this is ""wrong"" to pick. But I myself LOVE the ride. I would put it in my backyard if I had the room. It’s just so different from ANY other coaster... There isn’t anything like it anywhere.....

Avalanche Timber Falls ,WI,y,n,3 - Such a powerful coaster... Amazing airtime/speed/turns... Love'd everything about it... Don’t see why I SHOULDNT have put it in my top 10.....

Thundercoaster Tusenfryd ,NO,y,y,4 - The first lap I took on the coaster I wasn’t very impressed with it... But then it rained... A LOT and it just turned into a different (amazing) ride. Air time so strong it hurt... But I couldn’t stop lapping it.

Cornball Express Indiana Beach ,IN,y,n,5 - Once more... Seems to be a coaster MOST people like... So how is that a bad pick?

El Toro SFGAd ,NJ,y,y,6 - BEST SIX FLAGS WOOD EVER! Amazing first drop... Amazing airtime... And the end turns that I myself thought would suck... Were amazing. I bet this coaster gives Voyage/Balder a run for its money.

J2 Clementon Lake ,NJ,y,y,7 - Almost as cool as Avalanche... But not as much air.

Ozark Wildcat Celebration City ,MO,y,n,8 - Best GCI I have been on (Haven’t been to Dollywood :-\ ) This coaster ALSO seems to be well liked... SO I still don’t get why people were saying I have bad taste in coasters...

Comet Great Escape ,NY,y,y,9 - Even if Six Flags ****s with this coaster little by little each year I still love the ride and make the 5 hour trip to Lake George every year for it....

The Legend Holiday World ,IN,y,n,10 - Hey look! Holiday Worlds good coaster even made my top 10 list...

Some of you just need to grow the **** up and deal with the fact that not everyone likes all the same things.... That's what makes everyone different.... Dont act like a baby and cry over it..... Get over yourself. [/rant]

I don't mean to come off like an ass but I'm sick of people complaining about how I rate rides.... If I like a ride.. I'll give it a god rate... If a ride is BAD i'll rate it where I feel it should be.. Not where 'you' wish I'd rate it..

Damn if my wood poll made this much drama.. Wait until you see my steel one.. Cant wait to see how many people here ***** when I rate Millennium Force lower then DejaVu.

I never said it was yours. I mean peoples who's taste are for a ride like Cornball and then ranking something very simular very bad.

Now I know some who don't like wicked coasters and rank them accordingly, Nothing wrong with being consistant.

Well, if you go back and read the thread, there's only one person truly questioning your ballot...and you got a reply from him already. :)

Please don't lump us all in with that mindset.

Namecalling is SO mature.

Lol, you must feel really opressed!

Reread the thread, the only drama here is the drama you're creating with your overblown, novel length exxageration of what's going on in this thread.

And to think most everyone here was defending your ballot.....

1. No one MADE you come here to "defend yourself"

2. Unless I misread something, I never got the impression that you were completely singled out as a "rogue ballot". I was reading this thread as *ONE* person thought it was funky that Raven was ranked low in a particular ballot (oh, happened to be yours), and the discussion ensued about how it's a shame when people (again, NOT specifying you) purposely rank coasters that even they enjoy low solely to try and bump their pet coaster (whether it be sentimental, proximity, or other reasons). In fact, that was the explanation as to why only people who had already submitted ballots were supposed to be able to see the completed ones.

3. I found Raven to be a stand-out coaster. You didn't. That's fair. It's your ballot, your preferences. No complaints from me. (Ironically, I found the "trick track" of Villain to be the *best part* of the ride to me, and thus it ranks high in my list... also, when you get to the steels, I thouroughly enjoy Hypersonic and Shock Wave @ PKD, though they're generally disliked by the majority)

4. Funny how now it seems that while your defense was not required, it's almost implied that you'll have to defend your defense. Ironic, no?

I'm just impressed that you FOUND the trick-track on Villain at all....LOL! :)

Honestly, when I first rode Villain it ranked HIGH for me...had I not ridden it again, I would *still* have it ranked highly...RWB wasn't finished rehab, but was partially done, and was inifinitely BETTER on my more recent visit last year. So even in ONE park, I have two wooden coasters, one that went uphill, one that went down....my ratings of those two alone, I guess you might say, looks like a rollercoaster... ;)

Big Dipper, FWIW, took only a small *dip*...

One of the reasons we LOVE wooden coasters (well, at least ONE of us, LOL) is that the ride DOES vary....every hill, every turn, every drop, is just a little different EVERY time you take a lap....that means people are going to get different rides, from year-to-year, day-to-day, and even seat-to-seat. Add in the fact that we all have varying likes and dislikes, and it only stands to reason that our ballots will end up all over the place.

Mitch's algorithm just helps put them in some kind of *quasi-definitive* order... ;)

When Villain opened, it was easily a top-10 ride. If it were still running that well, I'd probably still have it way up there on my list. I REALLY hope Cedar Fair does something about that, because it's less than a shadow of its former self -- t's the evil twin Skippy.

Done. Now can I get one of those little stickers that are handed out in the government elections that says "I voted"? :)

I survived a Japanese typhoon and the Togo flat ride of death!!!!!!
Its over and they are already running 2007 Governor commercials for KY :(

Maybe top 5. The last ride I had on the thing was opening weekend with the name SFWOA (so whatever year that was, 2001?) and after dark it was running as fast and intense as any other coaster I've ever ridden, period. Right up there with the rides on Raven I had at Stark Raven Mad of '98 and '99, and that's pretty much the all-time epitome of coasterdom to me.

I have to agree that just because a popular coaster is rated low, doesn't mean it's to fix the poll. Some people just don't get Raven.

Count me as one of them. It ends up pretty high on my poll (I believe it's ballot #200 for those interested) but then again, I only have 47 entries. I rode it several times, in several seats, and though I thought it all well and good, I didn't quite get the "holy crap" factor that lots of people suggest with this coaster.

Now The Voyage, on the other hand...got that one right good... :)
