Mist Filled Tunnels (Good or Bad?)

I know I love tunnels but hate the mist. It doesn't do a thing for me but fog up my glasses for the rest of the ride. The mist didn't seem to cool me off either. My two experiences were on SROS at SFNE and Raven at HW.

What's everyone elses opinion?

Well I can see your perspective since you have glasses. I do not have glasses so I love the mist, especially on Top Gun at Carowinds. I simulates flying through a cloud and Top Gun's is really cold hehe. That is the disadvantage to it when its cold; it almost feels like you have ice on you when the ride stops.

The only time I've experienced this was at SFDL. OK on a hot day, but then again, I don't wear glasses.

I'd take em off but then I can't a thing when I do. With 'em on or off it's a lose lose situation, either way I can't see. :(

I thought the end of the tunnel on Loch Ness had mist in it. Didn't Nessis breathe steam on you at the end of the helix. I'm fairly sure of this, but correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree with you 100% StarCoasters. The mist filled tunnel on Top Gun at Carowinds is awesome to say the least. You we're right about the mist being cold. On one particular occasion when it turned off cold, they cut it off because people were complaining about getting wet while it was cold outside. It didn't ruin the experience altogether, but the ride is at it's best when the tunnel is filled with mist.

What is life without ups and downs!?!?
Generally: Bad (I wear glasses.)

Thing is, it is possible to use high-pressure water mist that will shroud everything in fog, but will produce droplets so small that they won't fog up the glasses or get people wet. Trouble is, most parks don't seem to be able to get their misters adjusted quite that way.

An example of misters that were just right is the misters that surrounded Swampwater Jack's at Kentucky Kingdom when I visited there on a hot day in '99...

Phantom's Revenge is going to have a tunnel and I certainly wouldn't mind some mist in it along with some loud phantom laughs. :)

Phantom's Revenge in 2001!
Oh my God do I love, LOVE mist tunnels! They honestly add so incredibly much to the overall ride experience. Ones I've done are SRoS at SFNE, Incredible Hulk, Kraken, and Top Gun The Jet Coaster. SRoS at SFNE's are my absolute favorite tunnels for the combination of the furturistic lighting and the incredible mist.

BTW, I do not wear glasses.

I heard they may be taking out the tunnel for financial reasons. Has anyone heard anything else about this?

Also, the mist tunnel on the Hulk is very cool. It really catches you by surprise on the first ride - especailly at night.

The mist on Hulk is nice and cool but blinds me for a couple of seconds and that's that.

IHMO, mist filled tunnels are fine, but there is a limit. See the reasons Rideman stated above. For example, most of my three rides on SROS:NE were ruined since I couldn't see a thing. By the time my vision was regained, the ride was over. Kind of disappointing.

Magnum's tunnels never had any mist in them. Magnum's last tunnel had (and occasionally still has) *smoke* in the form of a theatrical fog. For those of us who wear glasses, it's a better solution because it doesn't condense on the lenses, however, it's not the most pleasant stuff to breathe.

As for the folks who keep screaming about getting contacts: First of all, contact lenses are too high maintenance for my lifestyle, second, they offer little or no eye protection, which in my opinion is necessary on many coasters.

I absolutely love mist filled tunnels! However, in the case of SFNE's S:ROS, it's a bit much. I'm not one for getting soaked on rides and when I came off that coaster, my whole jacket was soaked!

I love mist, also. Even without the tunnels, like on Iron Dragon's finale (on days when the mist is ACTUALLY turned on, which seems to be very rarely anymore). I hope the tunnel on Phantom's Revenge (if it stays in) will have mist, also.

And no, I don't wear glasses.

I like the mist. I do not wear glasses. When I was at Holiday World, it was a God-send. It was 95 degrees 95% humidity. YUCK!

I love the mist in the underwater tunnel of the Hulk, but I don't have glasses to get fogged up. It is really cool in there too. It feels so good on those hot Florida days! My favorite tunnel was Goliath at night from the front row. The only thing you can see is this tiny hole with white mist coming out. When you go through the tunnel you really feel it too.

I love mist. It is a great element for a ride unless you have glasses. I think it really adds to the excitement. Hulk's was so cool.
