Not all politicians are stupid when it comes to roller coasters. Missouri's governor Bob Holden got three laps on Silver Dollar City's new Wildfire, a B&M looper, and said it was "fantastic." The governor used the opportunity to talk about the importance of tourism and a good highway system.
Read the whole story from The Springfield News Leader.
I see that being an important political official has its perks, even from a coaster enthusiast point-of-view!
This was front page, above the fold, news here in Springfield, Missouri. Couple of nice photos of Wildfire entering and leaving the cobra roll.
21 days till April 4th and SDC opens to the pulbic.
With all the Six Flags announcements, I completely forgot about this coaster. It's nice to see pictures of the first new operating coaster of 2001.
I didn't know political officials even liked to have fun.
Intamin Fan, WildFire would be the SECOND new operating coaster of 2001 (at least to the public anyway). Let's us not forget that *little* coaster just down I-95 a piece (Hypersonic opens 3-24-2001).
Actually, weren't the two coasters that opened at Disney's California Adventures the first of the 2001 coasters to open?
Thank you Rob Ascough. Let's all try to remember things now
What B&M coaster isn't fantastic in its own special little way (except for Alpengeist)??? I can't wait for Montu!

An unnerving stillness in the woods of southern Indiana beckons for your soul on May 11th.....
That looks like a good ride.

I wasn't trying to start an argument... I don't take it to heart when someone corrects me when I'm wrong, which I am plenty of times.
I think he was joking Rob and then he was talking about HIMSELF. Right, 2Hostyl?
Can't Wait To Ride It!

X IS THE BEST AND IT BEATS ALL THE REST!!SFMM BABY!!!
Actually, I wasn't even sure if the two DCA coasters had opened this year or late last year... these long winter months seem to go on forever and I lose track of time! Not that it really matters... I just wish I could be at the openings of Hypersonic and Wildfire, I envy those who will be there.
yeah that was my intent...maybe I should just be quiet for a while

I've read the article, and I find it interesting how the governor got his start working at an amusement park...
However, on a lesser note, I think they should look at the school system, too...
"Julie Menke, an 18-year-old senior at Branson High School..." "...comparing it favorably to the Batman ride at Six Flags near St. Louis. “I go on any roller coasters anywhere,” she said."
That just stuck out to me as one of the weirdest sentences I have heard in a while.

As a Republican, I can say that I have LOTS of fun. I enjoy things like organizing my sock drawer, ironing my boxers and alphabetizing the items in my refrigerator ;) !
Back on subject, It's nice to see a new for 2001 actually built! ***cough***SFMM***cough***
