Mission: Space

Any word when this awsome sounding attraaction will open? It sounds so awsome. You pull multiple G's in a simulated blast-off, then experiance the weightlessness of space. Awsome, am I right? ;)

When I was there last winter, I saw them constructing it. It looked pretty cool with a BIG red ball in the center and a wooden structure diagonally around part of it. i had no idea what it was. The BIG red ball now seems like it might have been a model of Mars?

Sure looks like it. The thing is, to me, the ride building looks surprisingly small. Has to be some sort of stationary simulator, because when I was at EPCOT last spring, I was amazed at how little they had vertically (and the shape of the building is a bit different too, certainly not for economy of space.)

My guess is that the ride vehicle/path is quite small, and if not, the majority of the ride absolutely has to be underground.

Yep... It is PICTURES now... http://www.loopscrew.com

Anyone know for sure what exactly it is?

On that Disney Imagineer show that just wrapped up, they said it will have the first freely moving animatronic, that looks like one of those bug gray boxy StarWars things.

I'm sitting shiva for CCI.

no stitch, that was a new animatronic bug that they will have at parks that will actually walk around. Mission Space i heard will be the fastest ride at a disney park and you will be weightlessness for 2 min.

Mission space isn't going to be the fastest anything. It's going to be centrifugal based. You are not going to be weightless, WDI is calling it "simulated weightlessness."

Welcome "aboard" Wicked Twister. Please keep your hands and arms inside the midway at all times.

Disney is not pumping all of this money and sponsorship (Compaq, NASA) for a centrifugal

Here is a link to the site talking a little about it. Check under news to see pics of construction they are snall pics though.

Okay coaster-freak. But when you hop in the ride and start spinning really fast in the world's most expensive motion simulator/centerfuge don't say I didn't say so. :)

First, it's centrifuge, not centrifugal.

Next, it is. Four of them. Each has, if I recall, something like 12 pods.

They spin up, it exerts a positive force on your body. Lift-off.

They slow down at a rate that's somehow related to your body's inertia - in such a way as to simulate weightlessness. It's not true weightlessness, but it's a close approximation.

That's my theory, anyway.

Has anyone heard specifically when this is going to open? I'm going to be going to Epcot next March and would love to try this thing out.
Doesn't weightlessness induce vomiting in nearly all people? Or is that just something I saw in "The Right Stuff?"

Why do you have to have a license to own a dog, but not to have a child?

Mark here is a little blurb about it from the rides manufaturer.

The size of the building cannot be appreciated unless you see the back area as well. To give you an example, the American Adventure looks like one of the smaller pavillions at EPCOT but its total area is enormous.

go to this page.. http://www.therideworks.com/ride_gallery.htm

Then, click on the bottom middle photo.. thats it.... 4 of those systems is basically the ride.

WCUSA-The World's largest theme park is coming!
Theme parks will NEVER be the same!

Looks like people are going to get very claustraphobic on this ride. Panic attack city. Especially since it's a new ride and no one has seen it before. They'll be in for a big surprise.

I heard the opening date was set for Easter 2003
